Advantages Advantages Excellent value for money, well equipped. Cute Looks!!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Extremely high depreciation, no boot, pathetic rear door opening design. Cute looks??

I purchased my Suzuki Jimny soft top about 18 months ago after searching for a newer low mileage vehicle with a sound manufacturer's warranty included for peace of mind motoring. I get bored with cars so quickly I always buy something a bit 'different' and the Jimny looked so cute in bright pillar box red with 'his' little round headlights that looked like eyes! I also liked the fact that there are several catalogues of options available to customise your Jimny and I did purchase a really funky soft spare wheel cover for mine. I test drove the Jimny soft top at several Suzuki dealerships ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to park , fun to drive, cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages lack of comfort , poor dealers, bad roof system in early versions

I have had my Jimny since new in 2000 I have an automatic version. I have taken it everywhere ! with the automatic in low gear and the 4x4 gear box in low gear ratio 4 wheel drive it handles really well in ice and snow and other conditions. I drove back and forth over Hardknot pass in the Lake district in ice and snow 4 times ! and felt safe. I have driven it over sand dunes and through a far bit of running water and no problems where bigger heavier 4 wheel drives have been left standing. Fuel ecnomy is good even with an automatic and I can get 42 mpg on short runs. I also have the plastic ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap, fun, distinctive

Disadvantages Disadvantages Badly engineered; dealers don't care

I got all excited last Summer, went out and bought a new 02 convertible, and enjoyed poncing about in it through the Summer. I knew that the road holding would be different to a standard car, but when Autumn brought some heavy winds that blew the Jimny across the lanes on the motorway, I got scared. I have driven all sorts of cars, ambulances, limousines, hearses etc, but no other road vehicle has frightened me so much as the Jimny on a motorway in windy weather. Then it started dripping oil. The dealer told me it was just wax from underneath. After a year and 11000 miles it was still dripping ... more

Advantages Advantages looks nifty and cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages a danger on the road

i bought my jimny about two years ago and kept it for eighteen months it main attraction for me were the sporty looks the soft top and the price approx. £9000. Fuel economy is quite good as it drives in 2 wheel drive for the most part only needing to be put into 4 wheel in poor adverse conditions (i hoped for thick snow but it never came so mine remained in 2 wheel drive all the time) it requires servicing every 9 thousand miles which is poor so in the time i had the jeep it had two services at a suzuki garage to adhere to manufacturers warranty...a pricey business at apprx £250 pounds for a ... more

    Advantages Advantages light weight-4WD-soft top:

    Disadvantages Disadvantages build quality/resale value

What peeves me the most, is the Tonka Toy remarks you get from most other road users: As for the green lobby on 4WDs, Jimny has a 172 eco output, the same as a Fiesta/Escort: You get 40 mpg out of one/ low group insurance: For a 1.3 cc its fast, the same pick up as a Range Rover, without burning the cash away: Put it like this, the roofs a doddle to put down, on a 2005 model: Suzuki has stopped making the soft top, so prices will go north every time there is a cold weather snap. Seems very versatile and funky looks like a lot of fun. There not making them any more as they do not seem to sell ... more

Advantages Advantages Great little all rounder!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None!

The people who wrote these must have NO SENSE OF FUN! I have owned my Jimny since October 2003 and I LOVER HER TO BITS! I have a v reg all black Suzuki Jimny soft top 1.3 JLX with oz racing alloys. Whatever the weather she is perfect. She ploughed through the snow over the winter, she deals with the muddiest conditions around the farm, is perfect for grocery shopping and running around town and to top it all you can take the top off!! Ok so the soft top is a bit fiddly, and the clips do pop off every now and again, but you get what you pay for!!! I have to say the Suzuki dealership I purchased ... more

Advantages Advantages Small, nippy, easy to park, comfortable, good view from front

Disadvantages Disadvantages soft top, lack of grip on road, bad view out of back window

Bought my soft top Jimny Sept 2001. I am now having serious regrets and looking to get rid of it. From the start I had probkems with the hood, the clips always come undone. I went on holiday last year with it, I was blown everywhere on the motorway but the worst thing was driving down an A road when the roof lifted completely off. I had to pull over which was very dangerous, I put the rod back into the clip which came straight out, I was getting so frustrated that I pushed hard on the clip and it snapped off. This was the second snapped clip that I had to get Suzuki to replace. They told me ... more
