Great first, second, or tenth bike!

Advantages: Price, looks, power, easy to ride.
Disadvantages: Speeding tickets, you'll want another one to park beside it!

...on a pretty blue 2005 Suzuki SV650S (Canadian model) from my local dealership. The bike is far more modern than the Kawi and looks SO much sexier. In fact half the fun of owning one seems to be looking at it sitting in your driveway, or better yet, having your friends admire the rear LED tail lights as you blast past them on your way to the local twisty roads. I was a little apprehensive with a new bike (as opposed to a used one) but I figured at ...
...about being atop this fine Suzuki machine. Given the revs are to be kept under 5,000 for the first 500 miles (800 km) I decided this wasn't a bad idea and have kept to it...so far anyway. Not a problem noted at all. Nothing but predictable power delivery, smooth gear changes, and efficient braking. After a few more starts the throttle hand starts to twist a bit quicker, the gears change faster, the speed increases, and still nothing to scare a beginning ...

Suzuki SV650 - What a great bike full stop

Advantages: Brilliant first / budget bike, sporty all rounder, mid-range grunt, cheap
Disadvantages: Budget suspension, budget feel

...The logical choice was the Suzuki SV650. Dubbed by RiDE magazine as the best first bike ever, and lauded by many other mags as a great budget bike, I had to find out more. The bike is light 170kg, has 70bhp, and a good spread of torque from low down. It comes as a naked bike the SV650 and a half faired 's' version. These differ slightly in foot peg and handlebar positioning, the former having normal bars, the latter clip-ons and rear set pegs. Both ...
...is or replace with standard suzuki rubber hoses, or it will be too sharp. Locking rear tyre happens too easily otherwise. Also clean front pistons regularly to keep the braking performance good. Exhaust Everyone loves the sound of a v-twin, and this is one stock exhaust, which doesn’t shout about its self. I guess it’s a matter of choice, but if you are going to get a fruitier exhaust, can I suggest you buy a road legal one, not because ...

Suzuki SV650(s) : Simply..a damn good bike

Advantages: Light, economical, easy to ride and fun. Comfortable too.
Disadvantages: Sound with standard can! Niggly quality issues..

...be sure to apply some Suzuki bond around the join to be sure it won't happen again, along with a new o-ring. Other than that it's a very durable engine and lasts forever, just keep it serviced ETC ETC. == Practicality == Fuel range is anything between 110 and 220 miles depending on how you ride it. I rode the bike back from Harrogate in Yorkshire to Thatcham in Berkshire and I was scared about my fuel. I had done 155 miles according to the trip computer, ...
...it's a bike that everyman can enjoy. From newbie to seasoned pro! Although in true Suzuki style, the laquer on the forks peels and then you have to spend 2 weekends with a scrounger and a polishing cloth/polish to fix it. Only for it to happen again next winter. ...

SV650.The complete middleweight

Advantages: Fast and Furious meets MR smoothie
Disadvantages: Not a lot

...the cleaning later on. Suzuki do a lot of aftermarket spares for the bike but the prices are a little more expensive than other suppliers. It really does dont depend on whether you want genuine parts or patented parts and that depends on finances. The Suzuki SV650 has been likened to the TL1000 so that is not a bad thing.Personally i think it is a CBR600 meets Fazer meets TL1000. Overall the bike is great for those who want a first REAL bike after ...

The best starter bike ever built!

Advantages: Cheap, easy to ride, insurance friendly, great first bike
Disadvantages: Build quality, when you park it next to a 900 or 1000cc, you'll want rid

As a 22 year old who has always been into biking i decided to do my full test last september. I passed 2nd time (had trouble with a u turn in the wet on 1st!) and set about looking for my first 'big' bike. On a budget of about £2500 i had a fair few choices - the insurance companies managed to cut these choices down to 3 or 4 for me! In the end it came down to a choice between a 51 reg SV650S for £2400 or a R reg Yamaha Thundercat for £2300. I ...
...- so i bought it! As a first bike, you dont have to worry about squeezing the brakes too hard and locking wheels (although they are good enough to feel safe) as its a V twin. This was my first V twin and i was impressed how easy it was to ride, barely any power was needed to pull away and the low down torque was unbelievable! It was easy to throw around roundabouts and take tight junctions on too - handy when you are used to the big handlebars of ...

The SV 650 is a quality motorcycle that does everything.

Advantages: Performance, purchase price, cheap insurance, resale value.
Disadvantages: May want a bigger bike after awhile. Cheesy-looking rear bumper.

...of a "middle-weight" bike. The Suzuki SV 650 is by far the greatest value on the market right now. For under $7,500 US you get a very sharp looking bike that performs well and does everything you ask of it. The SV 650 comes with fuel-injection, which may not seem like much, but once you get used to a fuel injected bike, starting up a bike without it will make you feel like you're in the stone age (you'd be amazed at how many "value bikes" that are ...
...the 90 degree v-twin. Almost every sport or "sportier" bike out there is an inline four (except Ducatis of course). The SV has a distinctive exhaust note that only a V-twin can give, and of course an after market exhaust pipe/system (and there are tons of options available) just compliments that sound. The SV 650 was originally dubbed as a "sport-standard" bike, which actually helped out significantly with insurance, due to not being categorized ...

My first bike

Advantages: Fast, reliable, economical, good looks
Disadvantages: you get wet when it rains :-)

Bought this bike a month ago and i`m very impressed with it. Been running it in but couldn`t resist giving it a squeeze- and it flies!! Don`t have much to compare it to being my first bike but this is what i know- Gets 150 miles out of a tank that makes it about 50mpg. Handles really well. Taking corners faster than i do in my car already- this is the confidence it inspires in me. Don`t even feel i`m pushing it yet. Looks great. I got the blue one ...
...from the sports bikes and better than a commuter. Very comfortable riding position. I`m 5'8" and it is the perfect size. Easy to get the head down when you need to. Wind isn`t that bad anyway even at 100mph. Hard to say what the 0-60 is but i kept up with my friend`s Nissan Skyline, so it can`t be that bad. ...

SUZUKI SV650 plaything

Advantages: Fast, Fun, Economical Silly plaything!
Disadvantages: It hurts if you get knocked off!

Not feeling poetic so a simple list for you!... BUY IT BECAUSE: -it's perfectly quick -not too much pokey power, just smooth torque up to about 130MPH and 0-60 in just over 4secs! -it wheelies superbly (because of the nice smooth low down power) -Handles superbly -superb knee down fun. -Economical -50MPG!(honest) (Unnlike the GSXR's which are nearer 30! still very nice but you do need an open road and a big wallet!) -Cheap to buy -George Whites ...
...RRP at £4100! Why pay more? Second hand you can get a very reasonble one for £3000 (try loot.com) -It comes in yellow! (and a really nice blue (later models)) WHY NOT?: -Top speed is a bit slow compared to its 4 cylinder counterparts (but at 130MPH the worlds going quite fast enough for my head!) -If some clever driver decides to turn right without indicating or looking, and you happen to be overtaking him at the time then it hurts! (I'm not ...

Bargain blaster

Advantages: Engine, chassis and price
Disadvantages: Soft forks

The best budget middle weight bike out there. The engine produces good power throughout the rev range. It may be a few bhp down against the four cylinder opposition but it more than makes up for this in lowdown and midrange grunt. The engine also loves to rev, especially for a twin. The handling is excellent for a bike of this price. The forks are far too softly sprung and can bottom out under braking, but the chassis is soo good that you do not ...
...best adequate, but anything better would just overwhelm the forks anyway. Comfort is good for the rider, but acording to the wife just OK for the pillion, and the extra money spent on the faired S version is a complete waste of time as unless you are flat on the tank the fairing does nothing. The best thing about the SV though is that it is brilliant fun to ride. Reliability has been good , but not perfect, a new generator and cam chain tensioner ...

Quick review of Suzuki SV650

After a hard 2 months looking for a new bike, I finally decided to go SV. 7 months on and I Still haven’t looked back. This bike always puts a smile on my face every time I get on it. If you want to personalise it a little, then there are loads of minor or major extras you can add. The best (in my opinion) is the K2, it is still Carbs and has a little more punch that the standard fuel injection. So, if you are a novice and your looking at an SV, I completely and utterly assure you that you will not regret it. If you’re a little more seasoned with the bike, I’ll see you on the next SV day. Have fun and enjoy this fantastic machine. SVRider ...

Quick review of Suzuki SV650

The business as a first bike, or if you have had a sportsbike that you cant use properly and you require some fun. All the good comments that are posted on these reviews and on all of the ofher sites, magazines etc are true! I bought a 2004 naked sv in blue for £1700, with 5000 miles courtesy of ebay, WHAT A STEAL, all my friends who own harleys, CBRs, Gixers all have to admit i stole the bike because of how good it is and the price i paid. Nippy, looks well, good riding position, i even find it comfortable. 2 hours before a little numbness creeps in. ...

Rides as good as it looks....get one!!

Advantages: Sexy styling, useful torque, sounds nice, well balanced, cheap to own and ride
Disadvantages: Gearbox iffy when cold, forks and fixings can corrode easily, suspension OK but I'd like it a bit harder otherwise an excellent machine.

...coat of silver paint from Suzuki so turns a rust colour fairly rapidly, most of these things are easily sorted though. Rear Aluminium swingarm has dulled but the trellis frame still looks new. Having said that the bike still looks in excellent condtion after 13,000 Miles. Rides as good as it looks....get one!! ...

Suzuki sv650s k7

Advantages: good looks, affordable to the masses
Disadvantages: lack of alarm, full fairing

Picked up my new 09(old model) sv650s k7 on saturday 7th march 2009 and have only done a few miles and its brilliant. I have only my naked learner bike to compare it to but its really fantastic. engine still to be run in so cant give it the full beans but still you can feel its power virtually in any gear from 3000 revs onwards. Highly recommended even if your an experienced rider. The only criticism if thats what you can call it is the lack of alarm ...

Cheaper than Duke with big grin value.

Advantages: Pulls in any gear, forgiving ride, excellent handling. Very cheap to run.
Disadvantages: Mirrors are a bit naff.

I've been riding bikes since 1979 and was a Star Rider instructor in the 80's. I'm no expert on bikes but I've seen them come and go. Every now and then something comes along that is a classic in its own era. Some last, like the CBR 600 & GSXR 600/750, some burn out, like the GT380 & RD250LC/350YPVS. I've owned my SV650S since Nov '99 and had some real fun on it. You can get away with stupidity and crap riding skills as the bike handles incredibily ...
...gear. It's as fast as you need in this country, I've hit 133 mph (not in this country of course). Fuel economy is good, so long as you don't strangle it, I've managed 160+ miles from a tank (usually 52-55 mpg). Tax is cheap at £60 p.a. and insurance is only £180, although I am 40! The super sticky MEZ4 tyres last plenty long enough, I got 4,200 miles out of the back tyre. The SV650S is a classic bike with modern styling. If you want a cheap alternative ...

great fun, but I will never own another

Advantages: very good value, great motor, top japanese bike.
Disadvantages: try a Ducati, and sadly you will see everything about the SV is 2nd rate.

if I had written this review a year ago it would have been much kinder, but about 10 months ago I bought a Ducati 999, and I now realised how poor a copy the SV is of the origional. As a direct comparison, on paper the SV is a great bike, and in the metal it is even better. sweet handleing, gutsy motor, and nice riding position, i have very fond memories of this bike, i did have lots of great days out and the handling left all other bikes I had ...
