Advantages: tender and movivng Disadvantages: The first few chapters
...the first few chapters of Swallowing Grandmother (which are pretty awful) stick with it as it is a sensitively written book that reminded me of how hard it was to be a teenager in a small town and the quest to break free. I am now tempted to read Kate Long's first novel "The Bad Mother's Handbook "
I bought my copy of "Swallowing Grandma " on Amazon for £3.95 ...

Advantages: An easy, enjoyable read with plenty of humour Disadvantages: The ending left me a little unsatisfied
...I don't, there is no love-story subplot involved!
I still haven't figured out the title, though. The "Grandma" component is obvious enough, but where on earth does swallowing come in?

Advantages: decent sized book, interesting character depth, Disadvantages: confusing with 2 scripts at once at times
This is the first book I have read by Kate Long. The cover jumped out at first. A green paperback, with a dog and a shopping trolley. Looking at the blurb, it describes the story of a girl, not knowing who or where her mum was, pining for the ( illusional) memory of her father, and above all, wishing she wasnt being raised by her grandmother.

Advantages: Short read, not too complicated Disadvantages: Slow to get into, a little basic at times
This is one of those books you find in Tescos or a charity shop going for a cheap price and which sound fairly good to read and just pop it in with the shopping. Well, at least that's how I found the book! From the synopsis it sounded interesting, not the most grabbing of stories but something for the weekend kind of reading. It was a slow story to get into, the first few chapters were a little hard work and I almost had to force myself to not put ... ...because it was an okay read overall. This is the kind of book you want to read when you're perhaps a little short of time, because the characters and the storyline aren't too complicated or hard to follow. However, for some they could be too basic and not everyone may have the paitence to sit reading a non compelling book. The book tells the story of a young teenage girl who lives with her grandmother because her parents have died/disappeared. She ...
