I used to insure my car with Swintons.
Once upon a time I was lucky enough to be able to buy a new car. It was bought on finance so I knew I would need fully comprehensive cover.
Swintons found me an excellent quote and I was very pleased.
They were able to provide immediate cover, by telephone, so I went ahead as I was keen to collect the car as soon as possible.

The only thing that surprised me was a higher excess amount to that I had specified, but this wasn't enough to put me off and I was advised before entering the card details, so I had the option to change my mind if I wanted to. A short while after the transaction had been completed I received a courtesy call from my local Swinton office advising me to contact them with any difficulties and thanking ... ...So far, my experience with Swinton has been a good one - a product I needed at a reasonable price, with incentives and prompt and courteous customer service. I approached Swinton earlier this year, to purchase car insurance for my Fiancee, although the quote was quite expensive, I went ahead and arranged to insure her vehicle. I waited over 2 weeks for the cover note to arrive! It didn't! I then went to their office in our town, and using the reference number given to me, asked for a cover note. The shop assisstant was helpful, that helpful, she wanted to relieve me of £25 for ... ...informed her that I was not leaving until I received that for which I had paid. Eventually, she gave me a cover note. So endeth the saga, I'm afraid not, this "Company" then went from bad to worse, after 2 months, we changed the vehicle, sent back the old policy and awaited the delivery of the new one, and waited and waited.

...to deal with people like Swinton Insurance and thats why i guess so many people use them, just ring them up, hand over the relevant information and let them do all the searching to find the best quote. Sounds fine done it, well i decided about 7 years ago to take the easy option and all i can think about is how much money i have wasted over the years.
Year after year of just accepting the quote and the reasons for the price increase without really ... ...insurance rocketed up and i was told that the whole of the industry had adjusted there prices up 25%. This was the wake up call i needed to start thinking where is all the money going.

I have used Swinton as a broker for my car insurance on and off for four/five years. Up to now I have no reason to complain.
In May my car was stolen form outside my girlfriends house, it was recovered and taken off to be repaired. It is now almost October and I haven't got my car back!
After a series of letters, visits to the shop, Swinton giving out my number wrongly to the garage, its been a nightmare. The garage asked for my driving licence, ... ...tests... they would not release the car, I have not been able to get a car in the mean time from Swinton. We are still waiting for the end of the case and its final effect. ...tell my sorry story with Swinton too. Be warned - don't use them!! We took out car insurance in 2005 - expensive but we didn't check around for better - and all seemed well, except they automatically charged us "payment protection" which we didn't ask for nor were told about. We were only alerted to that when they wrote saying they had discovered we were not eligible, being retired, so said they'd send us a refund. That was in 2007. We waited, and ... ...The next time I phoned Swinton to see where our cheque was, she had the cheek to ask me who we'd renewed with! I thought, you can mail us a renewal quick enough, but not a cheque.
One story followed another - the comupters were down, everyone was in a meeting, they hadn't got the paperwork, they had to contact head office - and so on - until last month I finally lost patience. I phoned ready to give them an ultimatum, and as soon as I spoke my name ...

Quick review of Swinton Insurance Services
Never ever ever go with swinton!!!! They gave me a quote through tesco compare and then must have decided they had quoted it too low so decided to lie on the certificate claiming that i had typed in that i had been driving longer than i actualy have. When i called them enquiring he said very rudly that there was nobody in between me and the keyboard and that i must have typed it wrong. I then told him i had proof that i had not typed it incorrect and he said well u must be lying and then told me that the price of insurance was going to shoot up £800 ontop of the £1450 for the year...What a joke! Never go with them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...

I have been paying for my daughter's car insurance whilst she was a student and over the last few years I have used a number of insurers, the one before last was through our local Swintons office.
Their last quote, for renewal was provided July, 2008. As it was significantly higher than other quotes, I told them I would not be renewing with them and proceeded with Diamond. They told me that they could only cancel when my daughter, who lives in Manchester, ... ...the money came from my account. This she did.
Unfortunately I suffered a lengthy period of bank account chaos when I transferred my accounts from Lloyd to NatWest and by the time the dust had settled and my various DDs and SOs had been reinstated, I discovered that Swintons had removed £475 from my account. Swinton - never again!
I was insured with them for a few months and then had a change of car. Had a phone conversation with the local office and was given a figure for refund on cancellation. When I called back later to confirm they had added very high cancellation charges (£75) and claimed that they had told me this earlier. Staff were rude, unpleasant and unhelpful, including the wrongly named "customer assistance" department. The notes which ... ...calls to local office) were not complete and were inaccurate based on what they had said to me. I am very pleased that I will never have to claim from these people. Like other reviewers, I found them verbally aggressive and the whole experinece of dealing with them left me feeling ripped off.. ...

...car insurance companies, so far Swinton is the worst, they have terrible customer services, they keep making mistakes on the policies. They love charging you extra fees at every chance they get. My renewal was not due for another month and I asked for a quotation for next year so that I could shop arround, find better deals. They gave me a quotation over the phone and also immediately sent me a new policy in the post. I said I did not want to go ... ...said I couldnt do that without paying a cancellation fee. Even though I had a month left on the current policy. I now received a letter saying that my policy has been cancelled!! I still have one month on the policy though!! I called their headoffice to complain, but the guy at the headoffice said the branch was right. What a surprise!! Terrible company to deal with NEVER AGAIN!!!!!! ...

Swinton is an insurance broker which searches a panel of around 20 insurers to find you the best deal. They tend to be cheapest for people aged 25-50 who live in the North of England, but are fairly competitive outside their main target customers as well so its worth a try. Benefits of Swinton policies are that they have local branches which is handy if you need to get hold of documents straight away, although getting hold of the branch on the phone ... ...opposed to debit cards.
swinton will not cover people over 80 or non uk residents. in general the customer sevice levels are quite good, if you are calling be prepared to be offered additional products. claims can be dealt with 24 hours a day but changing your car/adress etc is generally only available in office hours, which is inconvenient for some. ...
