Advantages Advantages Earn loads of points to exchange for great prizes including holidays

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be time consuming scanning everything

I have been a member of TNS for over 2 years and when first approached about the company was a little sceptical as I thought they sounded a little too good to be true. They would give me electrical monitoring equipment for free, all I did was scan my purchases on a weekly basis, send in my till receipts, they would then give me points to go towards items. I did however decide that I would give it a go. ~What is TNS?~ The National Shopping Monitor is in theory a survey company who reward its members with points on a monthly basis for scanning all the items that they purchase on a weekly basis ... more

Advantages Advantages Good rewards, doesn't take much time or effort

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be tedious scanning a large shop

I have been a member of National Shopping Monitor (NSM) for about 4 years and have found it to be well rewarded for little effort, although it is a bit tedious. WHO RUNS IT? NSM is run by Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS), the world's third largest market research company. The company wishes to gather information on shopping habits in order to allow manufacturers to gain a better understanding of consumers. WHAT IS IT? Upon joining this panel, you will receive a handheld scanner, and a docking station that is connected to your phone line. You will also receive a booklet of barcodes for various shops ... more

Advantages Advantages Frequent points, good service

Disadvantages Disadvantages Recording each item of weekly shopping

Buckinghamshire-based, international market research company Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS) has a scheme where consumers may accumulate reward points in exchange for providing them with data on your weekly shop. These points may be exchanged for household goods through their own catalogue. + What does it involve? After completing the registration process, TNS sent me a palm kit that I plugged into a telephone socket. This was a hand held screen in a little stand, with a 'pencil' to scroll down the screens with, although I didn't bother using this after a while. There was also a folder of ... more

Advantages Advantages Small Easy To Use Handset. Great Rewards For Taking Part

Disadvantages Disadvantages Barcodes Are Sometimes Difficult To Scan

I was first introduced to the world of the National Shopping Monitor when a letter came through my letter box asking if I was interested in earning rewards in return for giving information about my shopping habits (I believe it is now possible to sign up online). I thought why not and filled in the form. A couple of weeks later an exciting box arrived with the postman. The system was explained very well and was easy to install. It consisted of a handset and a booklet of codes. The handset had a charging station that was plugged into the mains, for charging, and into the phone socket. The basic ... more

    Advantages Advantages Get free stuff!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Takes a while to earn enough points for the free stuff!

Earlier this year, I completed a survey on the internet which asked me if I would be interested in becoming a shopping monitor in exchange for free stuff. I signed up without really knowing what was entailed. I didn't hear anything for a couple of months but then received a phonce call, which asked whether I was still interested. I said that I was and a couple of weeks later I received my scanner. TNS request that you use the scanner that they provide to scan all your shopping (anything with a bar code). To do this, you have to connect the scanner to your phone line so that they can collect ... more

2 Stars Quick review of TNS National Shopping Monitor by Trolop2 30/12/2008
I have been with tns for 5yrs, I am now finding it extremly difficult to redeem my reward points. I have been trying all over christmas, the link I had set up will not work. ASK and Google both have negative responces on entering the name. All other reviw companys I have signed up with have made my rewards vanish, it now appears that tns has done the same. as I have over £350 worth or rewards I am not happy........

Advantages Advantages Lots of rewards, easy to make points, easy to redeem for vouchers

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

I love the TNS National Shopping Monitor, yes its a little time consuming scanning everything - but oh so worth it! I have found it has only added an extra 10-15 minutes to my putting away. We recieved the invite by card and at first my partner was dubious, but we decided to give it a go and have been doing it for about a year now and have redeemed so many vouchers, most we have put to christmas and birthday presents, or simply given as gifts. Sometimes we like to treat ourselves! The postal questionairres are also worth doing as its usually 7500 points for one and thats £7.50 and you can ... more

Advantages Advantages Loads of free vouchers, competitions, easy money

Disadvantages Disadvantages Takes a while at the beginning until you get used to it.

I received a letter through the post inviting me to take part in the national shoppong monitor survey. I thought oh no not another waste of time. When I looked at the internet I saw what you can actually gain from this. So I joined. The lady who rang was really helpful asked me a few questions and then told me she would send the relevant info and equipment though the post. It arrived in a massive box but the actual equipment isn't that large. I hide it behind the curtains. The equipment is a hand held scanner which works on the same principle as a supermarket scanner. You have to scan each ... more

Advantages Advantages Makes you take notice of what you buy and how much you get charged

Disadvantages Disadvantages Diaries are time consuming but you dont have to do them

Well worth joining, it's all free and you get regular rewards, your choice, just for scanning barcodes, which kids love doing so set them on!! TNS ask you to scan everything that is bought into the home, which is mostly foodstuffs. Scanning is simple and doesn't take long when you've got the hang of it. The paper diaries that they send occasionally are time consuming but the rewards are higher for these and if you get organised just take a few minutes each day for two weeks. These food diaries are optional though, so if you can't be bothered don't do it! Other diaries are available for ... more

    Advantages Advantages ersatz prizes

    Disadvantages Disadvantages time-consuming

To correct the impression that being a member of TNS is a positive experience I offer the following. Two years ago we joined the scheme. We hoped to use whatever points we accumulated to exchange for a Dyson vacuum cleaner. On receipt of our February newsletter we were delighted to discover that, at long last, we had exceeded the required number (118,000 cf page 5 no. 27 in most recent catalogue), having amassed 128,919. We duly applied, only to be told that the reward scheme is no longer linked to the reward catalogue as recently printed. Instead, the number of points is converted into ... more
