APPALLING CUSTOMER SERVICE

AdvantagesGood introductory deal

DisadvantagesBad customer service means it’s simply not worth the effort

"...was also a member of TSP under the same introductory offer, and his three books arrived, on time, as ordered. Unfortunately, I wasn’t quite as lucky with mine. Two of my books arrived as I’d ordered them, but the third they informed me was out of stock. Fair enough I guess – they’d given me a voucher that I could use to buy a book of equivalent value, but they still charged me the £3 plus £3.99 delivery. On top of this, however, I’d also have to ..." Read review

Get bargains on your first order

Advantagesget cheap books on your first order

Disadvantagesnothing different from any other club

"E-TSP is a book club based on the internet. I originally joined e-TSP because they have a great sign up offer. When I joined I got three books for 1p, which is a bargain!! I did have some reservations when signing up after hearing stories from people about mail order book clubs in general. I had heard nightmare stores about people having books turn up on their doorstep every month that they didn’t want and then having to pay to send them back. So ..." Read review

TSP stands for THE SMELLY PEOPLE

AdvantagesCheap introductory offer saving you lots of money

DisadvantagesThey wont let me leave, help me please

"...and was presented with the TSP website. Having had trouble with these types of club before, I was very wary of the terms and conditions. But to my amazement, not only could I purchase these items at bargain prices, but also I did not have to buy anything off them again… EVER! This is unusual, as most book/video clubs require a certain amount of items to be purchased over a certain period of time ie 3 books a year sort of thing. The introductory offer ..." Read review

Get books for next to nothing

AdvantagesGood books, low costs, no commitment

DisadvantagesNone

"...points if I visited the TSP site and a further 500 points if I took advantage of their introductory offer and purchased 3 books. TSP stands for The Softback Preview and I have made purchases from this company in the past so I know that they are good value. In fact I would go as far as to say that they are the best book club I have ever used. Basically the offer is this – You buy 3 paperback books from their extensive list, which nearly ..." Read review

TSP - The Special Prices

Advantages3 books for £3

DisadvantagesEditors choice, P + P

"I joined TSP (The Softback Preview) back in the beginning of last year. I was quite shocked when I saw the deal. It was three books for £3! (no mention of the postage and packaging which is extra) That is something that is rare and very unusual these days, such a money saving offer. I then looked at the commitment side of the club and there was no commitment, I was truly shocked, because book clubs always offer these excellent offers and then catch ..." Read review

I would not recomend them

Advantagescheap books, no comitements (suposedly)

Disadvantagespoor service

"All I ever seem to have is bad luck with a lot of online companies and I certainly would not recommend you register with these people. Not just because of the service I have received but also because they lied about no commitments when signing up to them. I saw a great offer and you got three books for three pounds and the delivery was only two pounds for them which I thought was a great buy and so did my partner. I read all the terms and conditions ..." Read review

Soft Back Preview. *with update info

AdvantagesNo commitment to buy, no payment until receipt..

DisadvantagesThey make mistakes at times.

"...have been a member of TSP (also known as The Softback Preview) for several years now. I joined sometime back in the mid 90s on an offer of 5 books for a £1 each with no further commitment ever. Although I've a few problems with TSP, they were soon sorted out. Before I was on the internet all transactions were done through snail-mail and once or twice, I was sent the editors choice even though I had returned my letter rejecting it. After a ..." Read review

DisadvantagesNone, that I am aware of yet.

False statements - watch out - UPDATED 12.05.2001

AdvantagesCheaper books

DisadvantagesUnder an obligation each month to contact them, statements are misleading, terms do not make sense.

"...day I came across the TSP site - www.etsp.co.uk - and their wonderful sounding offer of 'Buy three books for £1 each (excl. P&P) with NO COMMITMENT' caught my attention. Having a look through the choice of books I found it very easy to pick three. Having studied law I am always careful of joining clubs such as this that are forever including binding terms into their small print. I always make sure to read everything during the registration process ..." Read review

Yes BUT

AdvantagesNo commitment

DisadvantagesIf you do not notify that you do not want the Editor's Choice it can be a headache

"TSP is a book club that has something slightly different comparing to others. You do not have the commitment that you would have when subscribing to any other book club. What commitment is it? Normally when you want to be a member of a certain book club you have to buy during the period of a year five books and afterwards you just order your books as you please. When you become a TSP member you do not need to order the five books a year, there ..." Read review

The Softback Preview-Read All About It

AdvantagesLow Prices,Good quality,No commitment

DisadvantagesYou have to remember to cancel the recommended selection if not required, or pay for its return.

"...packaged, and in pristine condition. The TSP describe their books as” Identical to the original hardback, except for the durable softback cover” The only commitment with this club is to receive six, monthly issues of the “Preview Magazine”, with the usual “Recommended Selection”, which they will send to you automatically, unless you Tick the NO box, and return the Order Form within the stated time frame, you ..." What a bunch of idiots

AdvantagesBooks are good value. Great introductory offers

DisadvantagesIncompetent staff. Charged me for books I never ordered.

"What does TSP stand for? Well it can stand for Terrible and Shoddy Products or These Stupid People and a few others that I could think of which is unprintable here! Why do I hate them so much? Well, because they are run by a bunch of complete and utter morons who are out there to rip you off. As with a lot of clubs of this type you join by purchasing some of their products at a knockdown price and I purchased 3 books and paid £6.99 for them which ..." Read review

3 books for £1 each - no commitment - NO WAY

Advantagesgreat cheap books, no commitment

Disadvantagesnever reply to emails, always sending unwanted books

"I joined the TSP (the software preview) book club at the beginning of the year after receiving an email from a website called Free Uk Stuff (where they let you know about free stuff and things going cheap). I was very dubious at the start - it claimed that you could choose 3 books for only £1 each with no further commitment (not like its sister site Books For Children where you have to buy 6 books in your first year of membership). I read and reread ..." Read review

Threatened and Mistreated - Please DO NOT JOIN!!

AdvantagesIntroductory Offer

DisadvantagesEverything Else-BEWARE

"...it was another book from TSP : A Gardening Manual, which I certainly never ordered living in a flat!! I realised they had sent me the choice of the month anyway and phoned to complain. I used the number printed on my invoice (£17.99 I apparently owed them for this book!) and got through to an automated service. I did as instructed and entered my customer number and listened to all the available options. I could settle my account, order form my ..." Read review

Don't even think about joining

AdvantagesInitially very cheap

DisadvantagesThey send you books you don't want, then charge you to return them

"Adverts for TSP are nowadays found everywhere, targetting the unsuspecting. Initial offer looks like a bargain 6 books for a £1 each and no further commitment to buy. The con starts immediately because you have to pay for postage and packing so you don't just have to pay for what you buy. It says no futher commitment to buy but you have to keep receiving their junk mail for a further six months before you can cancel your account. Then they ..." Read review
