Is it a bird, is it a plane? No, it's Talex Lite.

Advantages: Competitively priced, easy to use & understand
Disadvantages: Pricey database updates.

...this review is for the Talex Lite, the budget priced, cut-down version of Talex 's flagship regular model) My wife and I have different driving styles. She's very careful and I'm the one who drives like he's at the helm of the USS Enterprise ("Warp 9 it is, Captain"). However, as things turn out, ironically, she was the one who was caught speeding just over two years ago. But it did make me think that it was only a matter of time before I got my ...
...the box I got the Talex unit itself, (...oblongish, about 10cm x 6cm x 2cm, in dark grey metallic plastic,.green LCD segment display), the lighter-socket plug in power cord, the magnetic mount and number of cable guides to stick on your dash, to help up the length of power lead (of which there is a LOT. They didn't scrimp on that, I can assure you) and instructions. The first trick was to stick the magnetic mount onto my chosen dash position. I ...

Stand up Talex - your time has come

Advantages: Simple and effective
Disadvantages: Styling could improve

I bought my Talex Lite from Tesco on a special offer. I had 6 points on my licence and getting quite paranoid about driving. My points were from just exceeding 30 mph in both cases and both local. It's so easy to be thinking of something else and allow your speed to creep into the forbidden zone. This unit is excellent - small and easy to fit on its magnetic mount - there are alternative mountings for the windscreen if required. You are advised ...
...unattended and this is easily done being small enough to slip in your pocket. I like its simplicity - the display gives speed when moving and time (taken from the satellite - there's nothing to set) when stationary. Clear warnings both visual and audible inform you well in advance of all types of fixed speed cameras and their maximum speed as well as possible mobile sites. There are reassuring little jingles that say 'Your speed is OK' and 'You ...

Add another tool to help you drive safely

Advantages: Clear and precise
Disadvantages: Makes me feel like a bad boy

I purchased my Talex from Woolworths in the sales this January. Mine was a cut version without the cable, but still offers the same functionality that you'd expect from a speedcamera detection system but it's so much more than that. The Talex has several extra functions - it tells you when you're approaching a speedcamera, announces the type (fixed/specs/mobile) and blackspots. It also monitors your speed during the area designated as dangerous. ...
...danger area. It also reads out the time, tells you after two hours of driving to have a break and allows you to switch all these voice commands off. I was quite suprised to find that the road running through my village is almost entirely targeted by the police as 'mobile speed camera area' whereas the stretch of M25 I travelled down and A127 was dead empty. If you're in this area, a woman shouts at you to slow down - even if you're only a mile over ...
