Tchibo - German quality meets British customer service standards

AdvantagesA good range of great quality products for the home as well as clothes and sports equipment.

DisadvantagesAtrocious customer service. Frequent order delays. Slow delivery and problematic returns.

"Tchibo has a quite unblemished and very successful 60-year history in Germany, originally selling coffee and related products and later adding so-called non-food items. At first a strictly shop-based retail business, they eventually expanded into catalogue home shopping, then online shopping and most recently they have branched out into other European countries. So far so good. When they came to the UK, there were some teething problems - most notably ..." Read review

WISH I'D THROWN IT IN THE BIN

AdvantagesClear design of catalogue

DisadvantagesHorrific customer service

"Consumer Opinion on Tchibo Home Shopping I hadn’t heard about Tchibo until I found a catalogue tucked inside the supplements of my Sunday newspaper. Usually I just throw the things that aren’t of interest to me into the bucket, but for some reason, I found myself compelled to leaf through this fairly thick catalogue to see what kind of merchandise they were selling. The layout of my opinion contains the following categories: 1). ..." Read review

Ikea's little brother but with no meat balls

AdvantagesIts cheap as chips but good quality

Disadvantagesgot to be quick

"...Ikea without the meatballs. Tchibo have shops in many major towns now and its catalogue is becoming widely spread. The catalogue is available in any Tchibo coffee shop (by the front door) and is free to take. They change their goods for sale each week and every month produces a new book. Basically if there is something you like the week you see that magazine, get it. By week 2 I doubt if its there. I made that mistake by buying one fleece blanket ..." Read review

Cheap and cheerful

AdvantagesGood value for money, New products all the time.

DisadvantagesStock runs out quickly.

"I have read many mixed reviews for this company but I have been impressed so far. Who are they? Tchibo are a German company who origionally entered the UK market in 1991 just supplying coffee to hotel chains, restaurants, offices etc. They then opened coffee shop, initially in London, selling fresh coffee. They have expanded into non food items since then and now have over 40 shops selling low cost, high quality clothes, homeware etc. The mail ..." Read review

tchibo - here I come... not anymore

Advantagesmostly good value

Disadvantageshome shopping

"I know tchibo from Germany - where I am originally from. I never had a problem buying there nor with the home shopping service in Germany. So when I discovered tchibo in the Uk I thought "Yeah! A shop I can trust to order!" But boy, was I proofed to be wrong! ********************************************************************************************************** First a bit of history: tchibo was founded by Max Herz and Carl Tchilling-Hiryan ..." Tchibo Home Shopping Service

AdvantagesSeem reasonably priced items

DisadvantagesPoor customer service, do not uplift returns when arranged

"I placed an order at Tchibo Home Shopping Service, on their web site, I then received by email their news letter which stated that as a new customer, I could receive free packaging and postage if I entered this number when I placed my order . As I had already placed my order I could not enter the number to obtain the free P&P. So I emailed Tchibo twice to try and get this issue resolved, but did not receive any replies to my emails . I then sent ..." Read review

Anyone for tea???

AdvantagesGreat Value for Money

DisadvantagesCustomer Services from Hell!!

"...I get an email from Tchibo inviting me to check out their goods, every week I deleted it until finally one week I actually checked them out and realised they actually stock some nice products. Placing the order So at the end of September I placed an order for a a sleek metallic toaster and a sleek fast boil kettle. The ordering process was a doddle and I received an email straight away confirming my order-so far so good. Ten days pass and my ..." Read review

I'm sorry I bothered

AdvantagesGood Prices, quirky choices

DisadvantagesCustomer service from Hell

"...PC for less money. Tchibo had a free loan off me of nearly £400 for nearly two months. I have since ordered of the much maligned Ebuyer and have bought a PC which I have reviewed. Hopefully this draws a veil over the whole sordid business. ..." Read review

Tchibo Vacuum cleaner

Advantagesnone

DisadvantagesTchibo will not supply parts

"I purchased a Tchibo vacuum cleaner in 2006. It has had little work because its not really good for heavy work, so I use another brand for the main work. The vacuum recently needed a small part. I contacted Tchibo helpdesk they asked me to send all the details by email and said they would get in touch with Germany to see if they were allowed to supply me with a part. I wanted to buy the part, not get it for nothing. I have also been in touch with ..." Read review

Tchibo Home Shopping

AdvantagesGood value for money

DisadvantagesStock sells out fast

"I have been using Tchibo for online shopping ever since the website was launched in the UK and on the whole have been very happy with both the customer service and the items I have purchased. I mainly buy children's clothes as they seem to fit my children who are taller than average very well and are of good quality. They stand up to frequent washing - the pyjamas, t-shirts, .jumpers, trousers etc. worn by my 2 children have now been passed on to ..." Read review

Outsourcer

Maybe a few things you should all think about?

AdvantagesClear Catalogue and friendly staff

DisadvantagesParcelnet

"...for collections and delivery, not Tchibo themselves. the whole thing is outsourced, Parcelnet outsource to whitevan drivers! A nice little chat with the customer care line and i soon realised that Parcelnet is the bain of their lives, nothing but trouble apparently, but Tchibo is unwilling to listern to complaints about the Parcelnet. The staff were extremeley helpful, and whats better they dont seem to actually like Parcelnet. The next time ..." Read review

Awful company

Advantagesnone

Disadvantagesnon existant customer service

"Tchibo is one of the worst companies I have had the misfortune to deal with in a long time. We ordered a play shop for our 2 year old daughter at the beginning of November. When it didn't arrive 4 weeks later we were told that it was lost in the post and 'being looked into'. In an attempt to get our daughter her present before christmas we then ordered anther shop. When I phoned to enquire as to the whereabouts of the second shop I was told that it ..." Read review

Tchibo- don't bother

AdvantagesGood range of products

DisadvantagesProducts are poor quality and customer service is non-existent

"Some of the products from Tchibo appear to be okay, we have quite a few in our house! My dad first started shopping there and the rest of the house followed suit, we've so far got an iron, a dvd player and a few mini bits, but the snag for me was the stereo I got one Christmas. Within the first month it started to play up, the CDs themselves were brand new so I knew it couldn't be a problem with them. It would say that the CD drive was empty when ..." Read review

I would not recommend them to anyone again.

AdvantagesShopping at their shops gives good value for money.

DisadvantagesTheir service on line as well as their customer services are infernal and would not be helped by a course in social skills.

"I felt confident to place an order on line after I patronized their shops for a number of years. The order was never delivered. They appear to be unclear as to when they would return the payment I made. One of my students who, like me, placed an order on line after she initially liked their branch at Islington has just told me that she has been waiting for a refund since March 2005 for an order that was never delivered. There also seems to be a ..." Read review
