Advantages Advantages Nutritious, quick, easy, economical, less dishes, more tasty and colourful, with retained texture.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not suitable for large family usage, short connection lead. All surfaces become extremely hot!

~*~ "Good Health To You," ~ Why use the Tefel Steamer? ~*~ It is now an established fact that steaming food is one of the most beneficial and nutritious means of healthy eating. One of the fundamental reasons for this is that the food being steamed, never actually comes into contact with the water, therefore, the health-giving components of the cuisine are not depleted in the course of the cooking process. As an example of the advantages of using a food steamer over boiling, is the better percentage rates of vital nutrients retained. Folic acid is reduced by 15% in steaming but 25% by boiling ... more

I always questioned the point of a steamer. Another appliance to sit in the kitchen cupboard. Used once and replaced by another equally pointless appliance-du-jour. After all, you can steam using a regular saucepan with a steamer pan sitting inside it. Or even one of those bamboo things you get from Asian supermarkets. Or those metal flower like things that sit in a pan of water. All of which I have, all of which sit unused in my kitchen cupboard. Wrong, wrong, wrong. I have had my steamer for a month and it has spent all of one day in a cupboard. The rest of the time it has sat stove-side ... more

Just lately, I seem to keep reading articles about how we should all get five portions a day (of fruit or vegetables that is). The definition of such portions is quite far reaching – a glass of orange juice in the morning counts for one – but I still concluded that I just wasn’t getting enough (don’t make me keep steering your minds out of the gutter…). Bearing this in mind, I decided that the obvious place to start was to try and consume more fresh vegetables with my dinner. One of the things that traditionally puts me off cooking vegetables is that you generally ... more

Advantages Advantages Can cook my entire lunch/dinner, healthy, quick, almost effortless, doesn't need watching

Disadvantages Disadvantages Doesn't cook rice well, not ideal for cooking food at varying lengths of times

I'm quite lazy when it comes to cooking, a consequence of being almost literally banned from the kitchen for over 20 years whenever my dad cooked dinner, and then three years at university, when, well I didn't have the time or inclination to eat well (though I did often manage to cook vegetables unlike most typical students!) So when I finally flew the family nest a couple of years after finishing university, living out on my own and with a full time job, well I found I'd become quite dependent on my dad's healthy cooking! If I attempted to eat fast food or anything pre-prepared more than a ... more

Advantages Advantages Healthy, Less mess than hob cooking.. (mine anyway!) leaves you free to Ciao!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Water does run out eventually, juice collector needs emptying often

There I sat at the computer desk, checking out the latest ops on Ciao and totally engrossed. The study, the house, even the outside world had slipped into oblivion. Everything had become a blur, except the latest op on my screen. …. When once again that familiar smell teases my nostrils. Todays perfume? Washing powder? Freshly baked bread? Nope … that of veggies boiling dry on the hob! Gross! I just don’t have the time to scrub pan after pan either. A common occurrence in my household I can tell you! So … time to do something about it ……… Give up CIAO ... more

Advantages Advantages Healthy way to cook food, retaining full natural flavours, as well as most vitamins and mineral salts.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Timer works when appliance isn't even plugged in! Clip-on handle isn't supple enough and easily breaks!

My mother-in-law bought the Tefal Steam Cuisine 1000 Turbo Diffusion for herself, but felt it wasn’t worth using for just one person (her husband doesn’t eat vegetables!) so she kindly gave it to me :-) I had previously thought about getting myself one, but always assumed that they were expensive, I was wrong, this one only cost £32.95 from Argos. I also thought you could only cook vegetables in them. I could not be more wrong! As you will see further down this opinion. The Tefal Steam Cuisine comprises 1 x 4 L bowl, 2 x 3L bowls (all clear and with easily removable bottoms), 1 x 1 ... more

Tefal 2 Tier Steamer I have had this steamer for about six months now and I must confess I cannot remember how much it cost. Approximately £25.00. ** What it looks like ** As there are only two of us at home now, I chose the 2-tier version, but there is also a 3-tier version available. It has a white oval shaped base which has a small viewing window that has time indicators on it, and enables you to see how long is left and how full it is. There are raised level indicators inside for easy viewing when you have the bowls off. The bowls are see through Perspex, as is the lid. It also comes with ... more

Ok, this is not sex, drugs and rock and roll, sorry if you've been dragged here by the title, however you could do yourelf a favour by learning about an old way of cooking with a relatively new type of cooking implement, I am talking cooking by steaming your food... Yes it used to be boring, messy and time consuming, you only used to get steamed food in hospitals and it was largely tasteless.... However you can kick all those thoughts into touch, with the onset of a series of steam cookers from Tefal, I bought the basic model last year and it really change those tasteless boring common ... more

Advantages Advantages Healthy, Convenient, Easy to Use

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Cleaning sometimes

Well, so did I. I knew that I shouldn't, but it always seemed like the 'best' bit, all crispy and crunchy! I always told myself, 'right, that's it, I will throw the skin away next time then I won't be tempted'. Did I? Did I eck! Well, now I have found a way to cook the moistest, healthy chicken without having the temptation there. Steam it! No, I never imagined steaming chicken pieces before, probably because I didn't have a steamer (does help) and I thought they would be chewy or tough. Nope, if you do already have a steamer and haven't tried cooking poultry in it yet then give it a go, you ... more

Advantages Advantages healthy, easy way to cook

Disadvantages Disadvantages care needed as steam is extremely hot

I purchased my 2-tier, Aquatimer Steamer from a local discount electrical shop and I must admit that I wondered, when I got it home, why I had bought it. It cost just eighteen pounds, so maybe I was tempted by a bargain. I had intended to keep it as a Christmas present for my daughter, but I decided to use. This is the result. The instructions are very simple to follow so off I went. Vegetables peeled and chopped into smallish cubes and thin slices and arranged in the bowl. Water added to base reservoir and timer turned to twenty minutes. The timer shows how much water you need for each time ... more
