Salvation From A Dodgy Sky+
Review of Telewest by
sghawken
Advantages: Excellent teleport service
Disadvantages: Not everyone can get it
...had a rough idea.
I contacted Telewest on there 0845 142 0220; I was greeted by a friendly guy called Mikey. I explained the issue I had with Sky+ boxes and explained that I find the PVR (personal video recorder) option an absolute must for me due to the hours that I work. Mikey immediately started asking me about telephone and internet as well. He then asked me what I currently pay per month for all three my reply was £40 or there about's for ...

TELEWEST- THE BIG SWITCH
Review of Telewest by
tartantribe
Advantages: Lots of package options.
Disadvantages: Potential installation dis-asters, some pricey packages
...ON A PACKAGE:
For the uninitiated, Telewest offer a bewildering range of services with varying packages and prices. The first step was to go about choosing a package which would work for me. I wanted phone, Digital TV, and an unmetered internet plan. I found all the information I needed on the Telewest website. Although slightly confusing in terms of navigation, the site does offer a program which guides users through package choices to tailor ...

Rubbish is too good
Review of Telewest by

Advantages: See text
Disadvantages: See text
...let me tell you the Telewest story, there was already a cable laid to the property and the box was outside our lounge, this would be simple I thought, but no it was not.
~~TELEWEST – WHAT IT PROVIDES~~
As you will have gathered this is a cable TV and telephone company, they supply most cable TV stations and some digital radio stations to your TV, via a cable laid under the ground to your house and a digital decoder box. So, there is no ...

Telewest Some are treated better than others.
Review of Telewest by
mort2376
Advantages: Cheap Internet Access
Disadvantages: Customer Service None existant, long wait in some areas for digital TV
Having been a Telewest analogue subscriber for approx 2 years, without any problems, you may wonder why I'm writing this.
6 months ago, I moved in with my girlfriend and asked Telewest to add a second line to her house and transfer my number to it. THis was done swiftly and efficiently.
Before Christmas we moved into our new home, we contacted Telewest to arrange for cable to be moved with us. It was all set and the transfer went according to ...

Teleble
Review of Telewest by
donf18
Advantages: Reasonably Cheap in comparison
Disadvantages: Loss of service, pestering for payments
...not without complaint. I have Telewest dial Up Internet, Telewest Cable TV, and a Telewest phone Line. Well for most of the month anyway. Including phone calls of which there are not that many, my monthly bill is in the region of £43. This sounds quite reasonable when compared to the likes of SKY and indeed it probably is if you get the service you signed up for.
One advantage of having a Telewest phone-line is that dialling 150 gets you through ...

Digital Television
Review of Telewest by
tabyorky
Advantages: digital, not too expensive, lots of channels
Disadvantages: none
...decided to change over to Telewest or Yorkshire Cable as it used to be known as. We use Telewest for the television, telephone and for the internet.
I'm writing about the televison service this time though. I have already done one about the internet and may do one about the telephone.
With Telewest you get a smartbox and a remote control.
The smartbox has your viewing card inside it, which you should never remove. Also on this box you see what ...

Don't believe everything they tell you
Review of Telewest by
Tatters
Advantages: TV service is OK.
Disadvantages: Digital and telephone problems.
...looked up the local provider, Telewest to enjoy Paramount, Sky Sports, and I have to admit, the odd Simpsons and Star Trek episodes....I know, I know!!
The system was duly installed in October 2000, with the usual add on of a cheaper phone connection and the added bonus of digital...or so I thought.
Let's take the components in turn:
1) TV:
Generally a quality service with good range on the package I selected with 40 plus channels, although ...

You call that a service
Review of Telewest by
monica2971
Advantages: choice of channels
Disadvantages: choice of channels when they work
...have been a customer of telewest (yorkshire cable) now for about 5-6 years right from when I moved into my house. When the service was cable it was excellent, I rarely had any problems and never had to get an engineer out to sort it.
Last year they sent people a card about the fact that 'digital' was coming and that if we filled in this card we wouldn't have to pay for installation, great I thought, something for nothing...lol. But by September ...

Terrible Telewest
Review of Telewest by
Psychgirl
Advantages: none
Disadvantages: terrible service
...people to sign up for Telewest cable in Edinburgh. The initial installation left me with a few qualms - the front of my listed tenement sported one too many cables for my liking, but this seemed to be par for the course throughout the city. The big black box on the panelling inside the livingroom also wasn't that enchanting, but at the time these seemed like little things to deal with when compared to plenthora of tv channels that flooded through ...

Come back cable, all is forgiven
Review of Telewest by
Vix_Ricks
Advantages: Access to loads of channels
Disadvantages: Many repeats, Interactive not as good as promised
I joined Telewest Active digital at the same time as I got my phone line (see review in the telecommunications section), about a year ago. I became adicted to American sitcoms and the Paramount comedy chanel and Sky One in particular. My parents had cable and that was what I really wanted. However, they didn't cover my area so I had to go digital.
The installation cost me £50 (they have since reduced it and even done it free), and my package increased ...

Telewest Digital TV just not good enough
Review of Telewest by
allans1
Advantages: No satellite required. Free TV email.
Disadvantages: Fewer channels than Sky Digital. Very limited interactive services. Occasional very poor picture quality. Set top boxes very slow to respond.
...as possible.
The installation of my Telewest Digital TV service went very well. The engineer turned up when arranged on the phone and fitted the service with no problems. It was a clean install and he did not leave any mess in my house.
I have the so-called Supreme channel package without any separate pay channels. I get most of the channels you would expect but Telewest carry far fewer channels than Sky Digital do on an equivalent package. ...

Review of Telewest by
rachvt
Advantages: a bit cheaper than SKY
Disadvantages: unreliable picture+sound quality, lesser channels compared to SKY, very slow-to-react interactive menus
...was forced to switch to Telewest Cable TV when I moved to Gloucester because my current landlord doesn't want to "damage the look" of her property with a satellite dish sticking out on the side of the house.
Well, lets start with the basics. Telewest Digital TV offers you 3 subscription choices :
-- for £5.50 you get 40+ TV channels - i.e. the very basic ones like the news channels. On this plan, you can FORGET about receiving most MTV channels, ...

Review of Telewest by

Advantages: Good Qaulity TV picture, ISP connection etc
Disadvantages: Bad at doing anything right
...in the country whose requests Telewest just cannot manage to get right, at all ever, not on one occasion even.....
For your information I use Telewest for Digital TV, Digital Phone and ISP (Blueyonder).
The history:
I WANT TO UPGRADE TO DIGITAL
"Ok Sir that will be £30", but the price in your monthly magazine says £10, "ok for you its £10 then!! "
I WANT TO ADD ANSWER PHONE AND REMOVE RING BACK WHEN BUSY
"Ok Sir, but I cannot do ...

The Hidden Advantages
Review of Telewest by
Manx
Advantages: Fully Interactive.
Disadvantages: Without the weight that Sky can throw around, Telewest lags behind in some areas.
Telewest is a big company and that is good. I wouldn’t want to sign up to an expensive digital TV deal with a small fry local organisation in case everything went pear shaped. That said, Telewest is not (yet) the giant that BskyB is.
Sky does have the head start on Telewest when it comes to Digital and, at a glance, their packages may look more comprehensive. Sky uses satellites and Telewest uses their own phone lines; this gives Telewest a +huge+ ...
