    Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor Customer Service

*** UPDATED ITEM AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS OP *** ~ Introduction ~ To start of with, I would like to make clear that this is not a comparison between BT and Telewest/Blueyonder, I aim purely to discuss the services provided by Telewest and the experiences that I have had since being one of their customers. As many of you will know Telewest Communications offer multi-channel TV, telephone and internet services primarily to home users but they do also cater for business users. They have also rapidly become BT's major competition in the telecommunications market. According to their website they ... more

Advantages Advantages Cost, free calls, customer services, different packages (all of which are good) to choose from

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None so far!

Last summer I'd just about had enough of BT's (Bloomin' Terrible) 'service'. The crunch came after I received a red letter saying our service would be terminated in 7 days if I didn't pay the last bill of £87. My phone bills are paid through Direct Debit so I thought this would be easy enough to solve and I sent them copies of my bank statements showing that yes, the bill had been paid and if they couldn't find the money it's their fault. A couple of nights later I had to call for an ambulance for the lady across the road and BT had cut me off! Cue one very angry customer who phoned BT, got ... more

Advantages Advantages great high speed internet

Disadvantages Disadvantages completely pants customer service

Ouch - this is really going to hurt a lot! The op I am about to write is quite possibly one of the most painful things I am ever going to write, not in a physical sense, but more in line of a spiritual an mental one. Some of you may liken this to the film “Jerry Maguire”, i.e the rantings of a an employee who has become tired and grown wary of the way his employer has treated it’s customers. Maybe it is inspired by the fact of the ever looming 30th birthday (aargh! crisis! LOL!). More possibly realistic however is the fact that I am one of a few people who actually give a ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheaper than BT, good customer service, excellent choice of tarriffs, flexibilty, good range of advanced add-ons.

Disadvantages Disadvantages You are surcharged for not paying by Direct Debit (!), occasion boo-boo by customer service, clarity of line not as good as BT (but see review) Mobile option doesn't include Three.

Back in the dim and distant past before I was married, my wife had a BT line. She liked the number, didn't want to change it and went mad if I suggested it. So I had five years of paying high phone bills c/o Blasted Tripe-and there was no way was I going to be allowed to change. That was until she started getting cranky phone calls at regular intervals, which upset us both. The Police couldn't really help because the crank calls weren't blatently obscene and BT wanted a nice fat £35 fee to change the number. So my wife relented and when the Telewest rep called, I signed up for Telewest and had ... more

Advantages Advantages Paying less for my telephone calls

Disadvantages Disadvantages Having to change my ISP

Last month I received a flyer from Telewest advertising their telephone service at £25 per month and it prompted me to do a bit of research. It looked as though it would save me some money and you know what I’m like when there’s a good deal involved! You see - since I have stopped full time working I tend to ring my mom during the day for a bit of a chat. Well, if you’re anything like me, the words ‘telephone call’, ‘mom’ and ‘short’ NEVER appear in the same sentence so my telephone bill has been between £80 and £85 per quarter at best for ... more

Advantages Advantages Good pic quality on TV, phone crackle free and cheap, internet reliable mostly

Disadvantages Disadvantages A little offhand, internet 'dips' in performance

We switched from BT recently to tke advantage of the unlimited phone UK calls deal and blueyonder £10/month internet connection (BT equivalent £14.99 and you need to mess about and get an ISP). Installation Comparatively painless compared to some I'd heard about - we have an existing extension and they put a new one in for the £30 installation charge. Telephone Previous crackling on the BT line was always a problem and this has disappeared entirely. 1471 seems to work fine, but I have yet to switch on the equivalent of the BT 1571 messaging service if it exists. Our existing number was ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cost, quality

Disadvantages Disadvantages Customer support time, restriced availability

Telewest provide an excellent phone service, in my opinion far better than BT. Having changed from BT to Telewest about 8 years ago, I have been with them since and have no intention on returning. Don't get me wrong, I know BT have improved a lot since when I left, but the cost of BT is still a lot more expensive. I am currently on Talk Unlimited. This costs £25.00 per month and includes the phone line rental. Thats not all though - it also gives you unlimited calls 24/7 (excluding premium, mobile and internet). A fantastic price. Also, you could have there Digital TV service for only about £5 ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Internet can be very slow at times

When I moved to Dundee the house had Telewest installed. BT wanted a fortune to reconnect me and Telewest said no charge. I had previously used Telewest in Perth, but that was with a cable network originally installed in the 1960's. That service was Cable TV only and was forever getting cut off for days at a time. I had given up with them and switched to Sky TV. However, with them offering to install it for nothing and offer the three services in one, I thought I might as well give them another chance. The telephone service is very good, I work most of the day so am usually only home when the ... more
