Advantages Advantages Good for our environment, cost effective in long run

Disadvantages Disadvantages Initial cost, time consuming

When I was pregnant with my second child something made me want to live a greener more ecologically sound life ~ I put this down to pregnancy hormones rushing around the body and wanting to bring my child into a better world knowing you have contributed towards this. So this is where reusable nappies come into the equation. I was determined to do it the green way. How hard could it be? Mothers throughout the ages had managed and without a washing machine so this convinced me I could too and worked out I could save over £500 a year for an initial outlay of £100 to actually buy the reusable ... more

Advantages Advantages Make you feel very environmentally friendly

Disadvantages Disadvantages They leak if not changed regularly

Why am I writing a review on Terry Towelling Nappies, when I no longer have a child, let alone a baby?? Absolutely no idea, but I really am getting depressed by the amount of rubbish in our environment and disposable nappies are one of the main culprits. Tales from the 1980's Back in the days of yore, or atleast when I was a very young mum, struggling to make ends meet and walking miles with a pram for a bargain, the very idea of a disposable nappy was just way out of reach. We had something called 'Tufty Tails' which were basically a large, rectagonal block of cotton wool, which you tied onto ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap, Quick Drying

Disadvantages Disadvantages Cheap ones not very absorbent

I have recently been trying out terry nappies on my toddler - who was previously potty trained but has now, for some reason known only to herself, regressed back to nappies full time - so I have reached the conclusion that come November I may potentially have 2 children in nappies, and my 20 Motherease Onesize will probably not stretch to 2 kids at once unless I do a wash every bloomin' night, which I don't really fancy to be quite honest... So with us being on a tight budget at the moment, I decided to try out some terry nappies, (seeing as these are the cheapest option available), and get ... more

Advantages Advantages Fast drying, cheap, easy to get hold of

Disadvantages Disadvantages Hard to fold as baby gets older

Whilst searching around deciding which cloth nappies to try, I never ever even considered terry squares. In my mind, you only choose terry squares if you really couldn't afford any other alternative. I thought they meant *ages* spent folding and pinning and that they weren't worth even trying. So - what made me decide to try them? I'd tried out a few shaped nappies and had decided which one's to buy in bulk, but couldn't really afford to get them all in one go so decided to get some terry squares in Boots just to tide me over until my shaped nappies arrived. It's recommended that you wash ... more

Advantages Advantages Once you have bought them you have them for as long as they last, you are also helping the environment

Disadvantages Disadvantages make more work and need changing more often

When my eldest son was born 13 years ago there was not much choice in nappies and I bought 3 dozen terry squares. I used these most of the time at first and only used disposables for going out. The only nappies which were a good fit on him were Peaudouce T shape ( bet nobody remembers those!). I used to soak the wet ones in one bucket and the soiled ones in another, flushing away the disposable liners. I then washed them when I had a full load, drying them on the line and finishing them off with 10 minutes in the tumble dryer to soften them. I used to love seeing them all on the line and I'm ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap, environmentally friendly,

    Disadvantages Disadvantages less convinient

Since becoming an Auntie a few months ago, I've done my fair share (well, probably not a fair share, but a lot of) nappy changing. Although I was a little put off by the fact I couldn't just whip off a dirt nappy and strap on a new one, I was perfectly happy to cope with the routine of changing a terrys nappy. My sister always said that she wanted to use terrys nappys for her children because they are so much cheaper, environmentally friendly and personally, I think they are nicer for your baby. Think about it, would you like to have a load of cotten wool and plastic wrapped around your bum 24 ... more

I’m talking from a mans point of view. All of you ladies are now groaning. I am going to be brutally honest. I have got two fantastic daughters that have now grown up into excellent young ladies. So their nappy days are over. But my parental urges are beckoning me to become a father once again. I wanted children so much and wanted to be there with them every step of the way, even down to nappy changing. I have been taught to share responsibilities, and when it comes to my children I have the main say. When my first daughter was born disposable nappies were relatively new, at least to my class ... more

Advantages Advantages cheap, eco friendly, wash and dry well and quickly, look cute

Disadvantages Disadvantages take up space in changing bag, can be difficult with a wriggly baby

With my second child I decided to use cloth nappies. I have had good experiences and would encourage anyone with children in nappies to try. There are so many types of nappy available now that using cloth doesn't have to be difficult at all. I have to admit, my bum genius 3.0's (a pocket style nappy that goes on like a disposable) are my favorite but it may surprise you that good old fashioned terry squares come a close second. HOW DO THEY WORK? Terry squares are folded and fastened onto your baby using either pins or a snappi (a stretchy plastic y-shpaed fastener). Once the nappy is on a ... more

Have you ever looked at your washing line and seen a row of white squares flapping in the wind? I have often as I am one of the rare breed who still use the old fasioned squares of Terry towling on my babies nappy. Over the years I must have saved a fortune in buying nappys. I have save the council a lot in the disposal of nappys and I have saved the environment in general a lot. What I haven't saved is the washing machine and my time. It is not difficult to fold and put on a nappy and I have got quite adept at the task. There are various folds I use depending on the size of the child. I can ... more

Advantages Advantages Can be cost effective and ver cute

Disadvantages Disadvantages inconvienent, a lot of hassle and washing

Terry Towelling nappies, I thought, would be the answer to my prayers. A baby is an expensive accessory at the best of times, but being a student and therefore only being able to squeeze a Saturday job, money, I knew, would be tight! So, on the suggestion of my mum, I invested in Zorbit, terry towelling nappies Cost As with most things you have to speculate to accumulate and it can cost up to an initial £200 once everything is bought and paid for. You need between 5 and 15 squares, depending on how often you are planning to wash them. Around 5 wraps are needed to hold them in place, sometimes ... more
