...most of my shopping in Tesco this is where I headed to find my cake. Also I had bought this cake before so knew that is was of good quality.
Tesco have a choice of 'occasion cakes', from Thomas the tank Engine to Busty boobs, but I decided to go for the more traditional style of a plain iced cake. There is a choice of sponge or fruit and although I personally prefer fruit I went for sponge as I thought this was more likely to be to more peoples ... ...of size and I went for the 7" one which cost me £6.49. For this I got a Madeira cake covered in soft and royal icing and left ready to eat or decorate as desired. It comes in quite a plain box, but with a large seethrough area which means you can check the cake out before buying.

...fruit filled traditional style from Tesco and thought the change to this Madeira cake, would make a nicer option for the younger ones.
It is stated as being Madeira, but the inside does have a light jam and cream filling, the cakes are well presented covered in a smooth royal icing top to bottom and a piped swirl pattern around the top rim.
The cake comes in a cardboard box, with plastic see through window, enabling you to spot any damage, there ... ...box, again enabling you to vision the inside of the cake prior to buying.
We were able then to dress the cake as appropriate for a wedding cake, but it would also make a good starter cake, for a birthday, engagement or anniversary.
Only 7 inch, so not suitable by itself for a big gathering,
The sponge part of the cake, is very nice, heavier and more dense than sponge, but not quite the perfect Madeira, but still a very nice taste, and the jam, ...

Advantages: moist. Disadvantages: would prefer to make my own.
i have been looking for ages for a madeira cake that is moist. having tried several recipes myself and each one turning out a bit dry and crumbly, i decided to have a look in tescos, whilst doing a quick shop.
this cake is lovely and moist with a really tasty icing on the top, which is a bonus.
i only wish i could make one like this. there is a list of ingredients on the back, but nothing out of the ordinary. If anyone has a recipe for this, i ...
