Australian Red Wine (Tesco's)

Advantages: Cheap and cheerful
Disadvantages: Not really what you would serve to impress at a posh dinner party

...advice: Contains Sulphites Availability: every Tesco supermarket I have been in MY EXPERIENCE: I first bought a bottle of this wine when we were having a barbeque in the summer, I wasn't sure what it was or what it would be like as with most people when buying for a party you tend to just buy a few bottles of a lot of things. I decided however after a few strange glances from my partner that maybe I should try this wine before forcing it on our ...
...a cork, it has a screw lid, this instantly made me think I had brought a very cheap wine here. I unscrewed the lid and started to pour some in my glass. I was amazed at how rich the colour was a very nice deep purple red. I had expected for some reason a very washed out colour and was surprised. In true tradition much to the amusement of my partner I swished the wine around my glass and then popped my nose in and took a deep sniff. It smelt rich ...

Dark, nice body - and cheap!

Advantages: Cheap, nice flavour
Disadvantages: Often sold out, watch that cork!

...the shelf in my local Tesco store. An Australian red. Good, Australian wines are normally pleasing to the palate. 13% vol. Ooooh, now you've got my attention - that's pretty good for a bottle of red. 75cl, standard size, so I'm not being diddled. Selected by Tesco. Well, the small blue label on the front said all the right things, and appealed to my sense of simplicity, so I turned the bottle round to read the information on the back. "Medium and ...
...the nearest depository of free Tesco wine carriers (aren’t they a brill invention?), I grab a couple and start filling up. Who cares what it tastes like, at that price, I’ll take a crate! Even if it ends up in spaghetti bologneses and my famous chilli, who cares? Flushed with anticipation, I rush to the checkout and secure my purchases. I drive home in a frenzy (although, of course not daring to break the 30mph speed limit – dammit, why don’t they ...

Cheap & Cheerful

Advantages: Value for money
Disadvantages: ?

...a special offer from the Tesco wine club (100 club points) I decided to shop at my local TESCO, following on from my purchase of white I decided to go for the Australian red. This was cheap at £2.62 for 75 cl. ***THE PRODUCT*** The wine came in a glass bottle 13% alc by volume. It has a screw top. The front label is small with a bluish colouring. The back label has more detailed advice: Style: A smooth, medium - bodied red wine with ripe, vibrant ...

Austrailian Red wine selected by Tesco worth a try

Advantages: Smooth
Disadvantages: none that I can think of

...to buy it again from Tesco again and I enjoyed it the second time just as much as I did the first time. Describing any kind of flavour is a difficult task for me, but with some kind of wines especially red it is easier to describe what you don't like about them, rather than what you do. The main two failings I find with quite a few red wines is some you could describe as being bitter and others you could describe as being vinegry, and this bottle ...
...wines. Worth a try. Although my wife bought it on the monthly online tesco shop we never normally spend more than £6 on wine, so it is bound to be cheap and good value for money, and with a screw top rather than a cork also handy to open. ...

Tesco Australian Red Wine

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Not something to serve at a party until everyone's drunk!

Let's face it, you're buying this for £3.00 a bottle. However, MUCH better than some of the chemical crap (e.g. Cape Crossing Cabernet Sauvignon - chemical crap) that some producers pass off as wine in the same price band. It's somewhat acidic with very little body - but who cares at this price? It DOESN'T taste of chemicals and plastic. Better than most cheap table wines, can't go wrong with this - but make sure your guests have had a bit of ...

Cheap is good!

Advantages: It's cheap! It's good!
Disadvantages: It doesn't look expensive....

...spice in abundance and the Tesco Australian red is no different. True, you wouldn't offer it to people who are more interested in the label than the taste, but for every day (in moderation of course) drinking, this wine will not disappoint - in fact it will delight you if New World wines are your thing... ...
