Advantages Advantages cheap - verrrrrryyy cheap

    Disadvantages Disadvantages tastes grim!

My favourite comedian of the moment, Peter Kay, does a hilarious sketch in his 'Top of the Tower' video, and one of the funniest lines in it was.... 'why do Mums always buy crap pop?', and he spends a considerable time lambasting the many failings of the old cheapo special, Rola Cola and the childhood miseries he thus endured! So, for posterity, and in honour of Peter, I'm giving the cheaper brands a review.... Price & Product --------------- I'm a Mum, and I have to say, sorry Peter, I am guilty of buying crap pop too! Only mine isn't Rola Cola, its Tesco's Value brand and I'm sure even Rola ... more

3 Stars Cheap and cheerful, but not Coca Cola! Review with images 23/10/2009

Advantages Advantages Very cheap, decent taste

Disadvantages Disadvantages Fizzy, slight bitter/chemical aftertaste, taste not as pleasant as more expensive brands

Introduction Before you start reading this, I'll be honest - this isn't actually a review of "Tesco Cola". It's a review of "Sun-Sip Cola", which is part of the "Discount Brands" range at Tesco, and my local Tesco sells this instead of the Tesco own-brand, so I can't promise you'll find this in your local Tesco (if you want to after reading this review!) Additionally it isn't listed on the Tesco site, but I know it does exist because I've got it and the receipt in front of me! I might be completely wrong here but with the trend of Tesco moving away from own brand to "Discount Brand" for value ... more

Advantages Advantages Very cheap option compared to most colas

Disadvantages Disadvantages taste isn't great, and the smell is pretty nasty

Due to the need to cut back drastically on my shopping bill, I have been investigating some of the cheaper options available in the supermarket over recent weeks, and while some are fine, others have proved to be cheap for a reason. This week one item I decided was worth trying was Tesco’s Value Sugar Free Cola. First let me tell you that we get though what I consider to be a LOT of Cola in my house normally. I buy 4 x 2 litre bottles of Diet Coke and a pack of 12 cans of the same each and every week. Its expensive, at £3.19 for 12 Cans, and currently £2.09 for two 2 litre bottles, so the ... more

    Advantages Advantages cheapish, probably

    Disadvantages Disadvantages nasty pseudo-coke

When I was a small boy, no larger than a medium-sized dog, I used to have a recurring nightmare, and it went like this: I would be in my bedroom, and would hear footsteps coming up the stairs. “Oh good,” I would think. “Mum has come to read me a bedtime story. Hurrah.” Then the door would open, and in would come a person looking kind of like my mum, but also slightly deformed, and quite clearly not her. It was extremely creepy in a weird, intangible way, and even now the sound of my mum coming to read me a bedtime story fills me with a sickening terror. The reason I tell you this is not to ... more

Advantages Advantages tastes almost as good as Coke

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Label

Well actually, I bought it. Was just quoting a line from a hilarious Peter Kay DVD I have! I was on my way out from work, and when I went to get a few cans (of Coke that is) there was none of the full sugar variety in stock. Why does this not surprise me at all? So I settled for Tesco's own brand, or as some people might say second best. Or Third best if you bring Pepsi in to the situation. But to be honest, I was quite impressed with my findings whae I cracked open a can at home. Heres why: ~What does it look like?~ Well actually no, you'll have to wait to find out why! This can came in a 24 ... more

Advantages Advantages Looks and tastes great. really cheap

    Disadvantages Disadvantages not too healthy

The item title says tesco cola, so I'm presuming it is about the normal tesco cola, and not the tesco value rubbish which tastes little better than cabbage water. Price --------------------------------------- I always buy tesco cola when I shop at tescos, unless there is a really good offer on the branded stuff. Its only 44p a bottle (2 litre) at my local tesco extra, and the same price in the tesco express down the road. Even though its cheap, I really can't tell the difference, and because I've just bought a house, my food budget is a bit tight at the moment so this is a cheap luxury item ... more

Advantages Advantages Good if you are on a budge

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not the same as Coke

When you are shopping on a budget which I normally do, you have to watch out for bargains and things that are cheap. One shop I was doing money was really tight and the family were shouting out for cola and when I saw the price of Coca Cola I knew there was no way that I could afford it, I noticed the value cola at around 15p a bottle and thought no I can't give that to my family but as I was walking away I noticed another Tesco label cola it was in a 2 litre clear plastic bottle just like most juices, this has a red paper label which was pretty basic and had the word cola written on the front ... more

4 Stars Tesco Premium American Style Cola 2 Litre Review with images 14/08/2011
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages bottle label looks good, dont make it look cheap, taste is nice

Disadvantages Disadvantages not as fizzy as coca cola

I was on a budget so i decided to try an alternative at tesco. I usually buy cans as they preserve the gas than bottles with which the gas is lost after each serving of the coke. Especially when the bottle is half empty the fizzines dispenses into the half empty area in the bottle hence hardly any gas left in the coke. So when i was in the fizzy drinks isle of tesco i wanted to go spend less but not having to sacrifice the taste of having a good drink of coke. I saw the tesco regular cola which was 54 pnece for 2 litre bottle. Then i saw the Tesco Premium American Style Cola 2 Litre at .84 ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not as enjoyable as major brands

Tsst. The sound when the bottle of any type of fizzy drink opens in my house, and in a way it's good to hear that sound because you know it hasn't gone flat yet. Back in the day I didn't really care about opening a bottle of Tesco Cola right next to the fridge, then resting a glass on the fridge fill it up there and then. It's not until, probably about a few months ago, that I realised what a mess this was making. I was a messy child. I hate the residue that fizzy drinks leave when you open bottles, going off in all different directions, so now I do the careful thing of going to the sink and ... more

Advantages Advantages Lovely plastic bottle (sarcastic)

Disadvantages Disadvantages Taste, taste, and taste

When I saw how cheap this cola was at my local Tesco store, I must admit I was drawn to believe that I would be saving a fortune in fizzy drinks! However, I found out that the old adage of "you get what you pay for" really comes true with this cola. Actually, it all starts with the presentation... Inside a standard 2 litre clear plastic bottle with the white label and blue/red print lies the tesco cola. Upon pouring, it seems like all colas ... fizzing, carbonated and black(ish). However, the tasting sets this cola apart from all the others! Bland, bland, bland. Almost like the liquid ... more
