Advantages Advantages It`s cake when all is said and done

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Far too sweet

Time was when a mince pie was simply a dollop of mincemeat encased in a pale pastry case, simple as that. You knew where you were and what you would receive if you went into a coffee shop or tea house and asked for a mince pie to accompany your hot drink. Nowadays if you set out to buy this little yuletide treat you are faced with a bewildering array of mince pies in all shapes, sizes and styles. You can have them in puff pastry, choux pastry and shortcrust pastry. You can have them covered in chocolate (Yuk!) you can have them with Viennese style cake on top, you can even have them with fresh ... more

Okay so perhaps I am a little behind season with reviewing the Tesco Iced Top Mince Pies, but seeing as the stores have already decided to push Easter Eggs into our faces, I saw no harm in writing about these. Besides, I loved them so much that I simply need my chance to rave about them! WHAT ARE THEY? Tesco Iced Top Mince Pies are as they sound - mince pies, with icing on the top, from Tesco. I never used to be a lover of mince pies but for some reason this Christmas it was the only festive food I was bothered about. My Grandma makes lovely home made mince pies, however I am quite fussy about ... more

Being Christmas time, there is nothing I love more at this time of year than being able to eat Mince Pies. I don't like all of them though, I only like the iced top ones and I prefer the Tesco ones over any. They only come out in the festive season, so I make sure I stock up on as many boxes as I can and then eat as many as possible until I am fed up of them for the next November when they begin to appear once again. I am the only person I know that likes Mince Pies, they just sum up Christmas to me and I love them with a nice cup of tea which is why I've decided to review them. The packaging ... more

Advantages Advantages Best ever flavour mincemeat filling; really generous amount of filling

Disadvantages Disadvantages Pastry was thin, unsweet and lacked flavour

I love minced pies; and I love Icing - so imagine my joy when I saw ‘Tesco Iced minced pies’ reduced to just 12p!!! Each box has 6 iced topped mince pies. The box is green with a photo of several of the minced pies stacked on top of each other and a couple split open to reveal the gooey mincemeat interior. The product description states - ‘Sweet short crust pastry cases with a rich mincemeat and topped with soft icing’ On opening the box, there is a plastic covering to seal the minced pies which sit in their own tin foil pastry case. They are 3cm tall with a jaggered golden brown pastry rim ... more

From the Tesco Christmas range comes.... What are they? Just as the packet states "sweet shortcrust pasty cases filled with sweet mincemeat and topped with a soft icing" These are by far the best and most original mince pies I've ever tasted. The pastry is moist, soft and sweet to taste. Unlike most mince pies these have no pastry "top" as it were, instead they are topped with a devine layer of sweet white icing. The icing compliments the sweet mixed spice mincemeat incredibly and makes for a fantastic Christmassy taste in your mouth! What's in them? Mincemeat, fondant, wheat flour, vegetable ... more
