    I have been insured with Tesco car insurance now for about 4 years. The reason I insured with them was largeley that they gave the lowest quote. I know that you never really know how good your insurance provider is until you have to make a claim. Two weeks ago, after nearly 9 years accident free on the road, I had my first accident. Driving home from work, on a hot Friday afternoon, I misjudged the traffic infront of me, and when I went to break, my foot accidentally slipped onto the accelerator and I crashed into the queuing traffic infront.     I'm not what you might generally call a brave person. Truth be told, given a choice I usually veer towards the sensible option, I stick rigidly to the cautious side of life... OK, what the heck, I admit it. I'm a lousy, terrible, stinking great coward, which probably explains why I waited until well into my 28th year before learning how to drive.     As many people my age there comes a time when you realise that for some reason you desperately need a car now and taking the bus/train or walking is no longer an option in our busy and hectic lives of meeting friends and going to work/college/university.     Disadvantages Disadvantages need to get letter for NCD proof, (not available in R.O.I or Northern Ireland)

    Obtaining a competitive yet adequate car insurance can be a very time consuming and expensive business. I spent considerable amount of time looking for new car insurance after my car was written off earlier this year. I had enjoyed 5 years of trouble free motor insurance from CGNU who settled my claim in full, however since the merger with Norwich Union I found that in order to take out a new Policy I would be under new Terms and conditions as proposed by Norwich Union which were not as attractive as the one’s I had previously been enjoying.     Tesco is one place I would never have thought of looking for motor insurance until accidentally clicking a link from www.bluecarrots.com. Well I had nothing to lose did I? Some of you may have already seen my op about my previous insurer. Last year after around 10 years claim free motoring, I was very unlucky to have a prang in the local leisure centre car-park, followed about 2 months later by a much nastier bump on the motorway whilst visiting a friend.     Well I never thought I would find cheap, yet quality, car insurance at Tesco's but I was mistaken! If you like getting value for money then read on... I have been surfing the net for cheap, but adequate, car insurance for my other half, as he nearly had heart failure the other night when his renewal came through and was a lot higher than expected. Mind you, that may have something to do with the fact that he managed to get caught speeding in December and now has 3 points on his licence to show for it.     Surfing the web for the best deal can be annoying and frustrating but it can pay off..... If your car insurance is due in the near future and you're awaiting the renewel quote, prepare to cry like a baby. They've gone up like a rocket. What with floods, more uninsured drivers, plagues, locusts rife throughout the land (and all the other excuses the insurance companies use), expect to see your premiums rise.     That time had come, I was looking around for insurance. But this was different, I was looking round for my first ever policy as I had held a licence for about 6 months but had just acquired a car (ok, I really don’t know why I didn’t do it earlier, couldn’t be bothered I don’t suppose, but hey ho, that’s me!).     My car was hit by another driver whist I was parked and sitting in it. My one and only accident in 9 years of driving. Damage - £500 approx. The other driver gave no details and just drover off. Luckily I got the reg, 4 witness statements, and even British Transport Police CCTV footage and a Police Sergeant's statement, all proving I was not liable. After a month of sending copious evidence to Tesco, they said it had all been lost in the post. On the fourth attempt I had to send by recorded delivery.
