Andy on the trail of a tiger

Advantages: Tasty bread
Disadvantages: None

...I’m not about to take Tesco to the high court on the grounds that this bread contains no real tiger; trust me it probably tastes better this way. If you’ve not tried a loaf I urge you to do so the next time you have to go and play steer the trolley at your local supermarket. The retail price for this item varies from day to day (seems to be on offer sometimes) but is normally between 38 and 59 pence for a 400g loaf. The only other thing to add is ...
...doesn’t seem to be baked as frequently as the more conventional uncut white loaves and so you might not find it on your first Tiger Sortie…. I hope this has been of nutritional interest to the bread chomping element of the Chow community. Thanks for the read and catch you all soon @ndy ...

Bread With A Bite

Advantages: Unique taste, absolutely delicious
Disadvantages: Only available in Tesco

Every now and then, I like to treat myself to some of the freshly baked bread from my local Tesco's bakery. One of my favorite types is Tiger Bread. Why Is It Called Tiger Bread? This bread is referred to as Tiger bread because of the pattern which develops across the top of the bread during the baking process. This is achieved by spreading rice paste and sesame oil on the top of the bread before it is baked. Then, while the bread is baking, the ...
...of the bread, similar in look and colour to the stripes of a Tiger, hence the name Tiger Bread. Packaging Tiger bread comes pre-packed in a transparent plastic-type wrapping, with a label giving a description of the item and the weight. The packaging is very thin and quite flimsy so often it can break as the crusty bread pokes through the packaging so I often transfer the bread into a normal bread type bag to ensure it stays fresh. Tiger, Tiger Burning Bright

Advantages: Fresh bread with added nutrients
Disadvantages: Difficult to slice

...On my usual rush around Tesco I noticed the In-store bakery must have had a new employee – King Alfred no less!! I usually buy Crusty White Farmhouse, but goodness me it was so well fired it was BLACK! I waited to see if anyone would appear to check if they had some bread in “a whiter shade of pale!” but gave up and looked to see what else there was. I added a Tiger Loaf to my trolley. It came very quietly, not a growl in sight. It was an 800gr ...
...flour treatment agents and cost was 68p. Display until 05.00 the following day’s date. (Would it mysteriously change at 05.00 if any were left? ) Not very much information there, obviously no Tiger in the ingredients! The wrapper was a plasticy/ cellophane type of sealed bag with tiny breathing holes all over, not entirely suitable to put straight into the freezer, so I opened it and thought “What a funny smell!” The loaf had quite a strange smell, ...

Tesco Tiger Bread: Delicious rice paste & sesame oil bread.

Advantages: Delicious taste, lovely medium crunchy crust, soft white centre.
Disadvantages: None.

...baked and I think that Tesco is one of the best stores for this bread. It seems to have become more and more popular recently as Tesco regularly advertise it as a 'weekend loaf' for £1.00 but the standard price is £1.10. The bread is baked fresh in the Tesco in store bakery and if you visit at the right time (lunchtime or first thing) you can frequently find bread that is still warm. The bread is delicious and has quite a unique smell and taste to ...
...these are fairly regular in Tesco stores or at tesco.co.uk. If you haven't tried this bread before then what are you waiting for? It's delicious as a sandwich or toast and it's delicious when toasted and spread with butter & Marmite. It really is the ultimate lunchtime bread and I thoroughly enjoy it. I have tried loaves from other stores such as Asda & Greggs and while these are very nice too I do actually prefer the Tesco one as it's just that ...

Easy tiger

Advantages: Nice for a change
Disadvantages: An accuired taste

...while we were shopping in Tesco yesterday we spotted a loaf and decided to try it. Tiger Bread is a freshly baked loaf on the shelves direct from the In-Store Bakery. It costs 68p for the big loaf or you can buy a smaller one like we did for 42p, obviously from Tesco. It was next to the normal bloomer loaves, in the speciality breads section. The loaf is quite a dark brown colour with a golden marbled effect on the crust, the marbled parts are ...
...reasoning behind the name. When you pick the loaf up to do the squeeze test it isn't soft and almost feels stale but because it's baked in store it is still warm so you know it's fresh. Cutting the loaf you find the crust is very thick and crusty and quite tough to bite when you get round to eating it. By contrast, the bread is very soft and light but it is very filling when you have a couple of doorsteps with butter. I tried a slice with jam and ...

Cheesy or what? Use Your Loaf

Advantages: White bread!
Disadvantages: White bread!

From what I can gather, this is called a 'tiger loaf' as it is a large soft white loaf, rather like a traditional bloomer, with melted cheese on the upper crust. This cheese makes a set of stripey lines, so this could be the origins of the name. It is also not unique to Tesco's, as I have seen it on the shelf in Sainsbury's, so to speak. Price______________________________________________ It retails In my local Tescoat at approx 54p for a 400 g ...
...bread is soft, as if it is made with quite a lot of milk, but with quite a hard crust, so it is quite easy to cut. As it is made by Tesco's in-store bakery, there is no list of ingredients on the label, and I am not entirely sure how a 'Tiger loaf' is different from an ordinary white, apart from the stripes on top. I'm pretty sure we were never told how to make it like this in CSE Cookery! Since retail white bread has to have a certain level of ...

...bakery. Tiger bread from tesco is a favouriteof mine. It costs about 40p for a smaller loaf and just under 70p for larger loaf but it's often on special offer later on in the day and recently it has been sold as '2 for 1.' The bread is similar to a bloomer loaf only the top has a crackled effect - similar to the stripes of a tiger. It is golden i colour and looks very appealing. It's fresly baked in the supermarket and is often still warm when you ...
...it becomes clear how crusty it is on the outside. Inside the bread is light and fluffy. Usually when i buy a loaf i'll eat a few slices just with margerine on as soon as I get home. It doesn't keep for long as it is not packed with preservatives like the 'stay fresh' breads are but it tastes so good i doubt this will be a problem! ...

If this were waiting at home...

Advantages: Taste, smell, versatility
Disadvantages: Doesn't last long, packaging

Bread. The main food in my house that I really indulge myself with, apart from chocolate and soda! Tiger Bread is a white bread which has been cooked in sesame oil, giving it a stripey or dark colour on the crust, and gives it a fabulous aroma. I regularly buy this bread from Tesco, and at 78p for a 800g fresh loaf, it is well worth getting. It's one of those things that when you make a nice meal or sandwich, you have to keep having more of it ...
...buy this bread are; -Always buy it fresh from the In Store bakery -Never buy it in the evenings, it just doesn't taste the same -Try and get a loaf that doesn't looked burnt, as these have a charry aftertaste. My only problem is, like most freshly baked loaves, it won't last more than a couple of days, which can be a real bummer if you haven't bought any for a couple of days. This is due to the light packaging of the meshed polythene that helps ...

Eye of the tiger

Advantages: very nice
Disadvantages: none

OK this was my very first review on here. So it's been updated and this is the new and improved version. Tiger Bread - so called because of the stripey crust on it, is found in Tesco's, and usually retails for 79p for an 800g uncut loaf. Now whilst there is no way I will buy 10 loaves of this every week, (stick to the value bread, hell, it's bread after all!) on a weekend we like to have a nice little spot of lunch, and this is perfect for that purpose. ...
...lettuce and butter, and will be the perfect complement to your ploughmans lunch. Soft white bread which has a lovely crumbly texture to it. Also avaliable in rolls, which always go down well for a snack late at night. Lovely crust, which as the name suggests is orange and brown striped, and the crust is crunchy and chewy, so watch out if you have false teeth or dentures!! I'd recommend this for anyone, as long as you have a big freezer to keep ...

Quick review of Tesco Tiger Bread

Very unique and tasty flavour. It contains sesame oil and this gives it the stripey crust, which is so delicous! Lots of the reviews say it doesn't keep well, but it does freeze well. The crust is not quite a crispy as when fresh, but all the flavour is there and the bread stays very soft. We always have some in the house! ...

Tiger Loaf - From crust to crumb.

Advantages: The lovely sesame aroma
Disadvantages: When slicing, the loaf is so soft, just cutting it with a knife can crush it.

I first purchased this loaf by pure fluke, i picked it off the shelf as it was the last loaf standing on New years eve in our local Somerfield supermarket. I was somewhat suprised when i unwrapped it on returning home, at the pleasant and freshly baked aroma, this is made even more inviting by the lovely smell of sesame oil. We had it that night with soup, but since then i have been on regular trips to many different supermakets in search of the ...
...and we are never, ever, satisfied with any substitute. If we buy bread, its Tiger bread. My partner and i love to share it with butter and jam in the morning, or toasted with scrambled eggs, or simply straight out of the packet on the way home from the supermarket.....it really is that good. It has no downfall other than its so soft and crusty that slicing it can be quite a job, ending up in inch width slices with the crust hanging off. If you can ...

It's tasty.

Advantages: A lot of bread
Disadvantages: ...for not a lot of money

Tesco's tiger bread is a freshly baked loaf of bread. BUT, it is not your ordinary fresh bread loaf. Tesco's tiger bread is the ultimate bread. When we go shopping at Tesco's we will very often return with tiger bread. It is the first thing we open and eat. No butter is necessary although some people may like it to add some texture to the bread. But you'll be more than happy to just munch away at the bread alone. But some tiger bread, take it home, ...
...stop eating it, you'll like it so much. In fact.. I'm eating it now! The ONLY down side of it is that it doesn't last more than a day or two and it comes and no resealable bag. I would defiantly suggest this to anyone with the need to eat. ...
