Advantages: It tastes good, you can get 2 servings out of it Disadvantages: The lid is a little difficult to open
...or Asda, but a new Tesco has opened about a mile up the road from us, so on one of my walks with the dog (and Larry hehe), I decided to nip in and have a browse. This is where I spotted it.
In a clear 600g tub comes this delicious Tomato and Basil soup. On the front of the tub a red and green label shows a rather unattractive picture of some Basil and Tomatoes. How predictable. Apparently, as the label says this soup is a new recipe, but having ... ...the lid, which, may I add, is a little difficult to open because of it’s ridged ness, you are presents with a wonderful rich red soup. Flecks of green indicate the basil, and chunks of red tomatoes immediately jump out in front of my eyes. On the back of the tub is a white label with cooking instructions and ingredients. A healthy amount of tomatoes are in there at 47%. Suits me.
To warm through on the hob, just pour into a pan and heat for 5 to ...

I am sure everybody in this country has, like me, wandered around Tesco’s and fallen prey to the insidious trickery of the marketing people. I go there in search of a nice soup, in which to dunk some bread and generally have a pleasant easy-to-make dinner. I see the rack of usual tinned soups, and am about to grab a couple when my eye is caught by the chilled food section. There, languishing on the shelf, is a whole array of “freshly-made” soups, ... ...Buy me! I am pure and wholesome, containing the purest juice of Mother Nature’s vegetables, and am furthermore packaged in plastic, which, despite being a factory-produced artificial polymer, seems to your confused brain to be mightily more wholesome that the dirty, dirty tins and their dirty, dirty contents.”
And so I do. Who would blame me? Who can resist such temptation? And as I pour the contents into my saucepan at home, a niggling little voice ...

Advantages: It's convenient to store once the contents are opened because of the plastic container Disadvantages: Perhaps a little pricey
I found this soup to be thick, chunky and tasty. It had a lovely fresh aroma which wasn't too overpowering. The taste was just right, not too sharp, but with a lovely tomato taste with the right amount of seasoning. It was lovely with some freshly baked and buttered bread. I thought the contents were generous, plenty for two people. The soup itself is nice and chunky, with tomatos that tasted fresh. It's quite a filling soup, and although perhaps ... ...could actually pass it as home made! Some tomato soups can be a little sharp tasting, leaving that nasty "tang" at the back of your throat. Not so with this soup. Thumbs up from me every time. I also like the fact that I can easily store the remainder in the fridge in its plastic container. ...

Advantages: This makes two mug fulls Disadvantages: The container is difficult to open
I am the family's most fussy eater and I think this is the best soup I've ever had.
The plastic container can sometimes be difficult to open but don't despair the wonderfully savoury taste is worth any effort required to get inside the lid.
It is full of flavour and has chunky peices of vegetables in it. I have tried other Tomato and Basil soups but every time I come back to Tesco's tomato and Basil soup. It tastes great on its own or with a slice ...

(+) Tasty, makes a simple evening meal, plenty going and filling (-) Not quite enough for two, but you can add a little water to bulk it out a little more!
(+) Quick & simple to cook meal, can be frozen, low fat, suitable for vegetarians (-) I found it to be quite tasteless, which is a shame because it sounded delicious!
