Advantages Advantages Very compact, only 2 wires

Disadvantages Disadvantages You need to buy your own scart lead for it

Introduction: ----------------- My Mum has been looking for an average DVD player for about a year now, but my Dad insisted that he should buy a DVD player with built in dvd recorder. Having not done this for months my Mum went out and secretly bought the cheapest dvd player she could find: a Tesco Value one. I'd heard from a friend that it worked fine and was great value for money so we brought it home and installed it. To our dismay it made a funny clunking noise as soon as a dvd was inserted. We pressed 'STOP' on the unit and the clunking got a lot louder, sounding as though the dvd was ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap and Cheerful, easy to set up, easy to use

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not likely to last much longer.

Before purchasing this DVD player I had a much more expensive and well known brand of player, however as I am a student I move back and forth between home and Uni a lot and in transit something worked loose internally and it just would not work. Unfortunately this happened just outside of its warranty. I was told that the price of a repair would have been almost the same as purchasing a new one. As a result I decided to buy a cheap and cheerful model as I didn't really have much cash to spare and I wouldn't feel like I'd lost much should the same thing happen again. I'm very glad I did as my ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, compact and easy to use

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not a multi region player

Purchasing the Tesco Value DVD player was a complete impulse buy. Prior to buying it, we didn't actually own a dedicated DVD player. Instead we used to our XBOX console to play DVDs. This caused a few marital tiffs if I wanted to watch a film and my husband wanted to play a game. So buying the Tesco Value DVD player and putting it upstairs seemed a good solution to our problem. As I have already mentioned it was an impulse buy. We popped into our local Tesco just to pick up some milk and walked down the electronics aisle to the checkout. The Value DVD player just caught my eye, mainly because ... more

1 Star Quick review of Tesco Value DVD Player by tomattoe 18/09/2007
I have 4 DVD players in the house, although in all fairness the Tesco DVD player can hardly be described as such. The assertion that it plays CDRW beggars belief as I have yet to find one which works on it. Playback of DVDs is patchy at best with the displayed picture being at times out of focus (despite the same DVD playing perfectly on my other models. TI could not even sell this on Ebay as I feel this would be unfair to any buyer. I could recommend this as a paperweight but apart from that it has little to ... more

    Advantages Advantages Price

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Now discontinued

Good value for money - too bad they've discontinued it! There's a rush outbreak of "value" DVD players: ASDA, Woolworth's, Tesco, Sainsbury's. Now they all seem to have disappeared from shelves, so if yours stops working & you need a replacement, tough luck. This happened to us - our Tesco Value DVD player seemed to have a broken laser, as DVDs would 'stick' for no apparent reason (not scratched). We went to try and trade it in for a new one, but were told that we'd have to pay the £5 difference for the cheapest one they had in stock. Everyone else we know with this DVD player has not had a ... more
