This can can cancan !!

Advantages: Cheap, nutritious and handy
Disadvantages: None

...- last week I visited Tesco so it is the Tesco Value Chopped Tomatoes I am reviewing today. Now I think the worst thing aboiut any of the Value, Smart Price etc brands in any of the supermarkets are that they always seem to be the least accessable. This was the case with tesco's tomatoes - right on the bottom shelf !! But hey I was buying 10 tins and with a savng of 56p per can compared to the Napolii brand it was worth the effort ( gosh I saved ...

Chopped Tomatoes to making cooking easy

Advantages: Chopped ready for use
Disadvantages: None

...year. A humble tin of Tesco chopped tomatoes has risen from 19p to 33p in less than a year. Amazing, and I wonder why this has happened. Perhaps the quality was such that they were worth more but were one of the “Loss leaders” that supermarkets sell to encourage people in and to buy more. I have to say that the chopped tomatoes are still excellent value at 33p for a tin and I am quite happy to pay that price although I wish I’d stock piled more ...
...The tin looks like the Tesco value plum tomatoes, but the picture is of chopped tomatoes, so worth checking as people put them in the wrong section sometimes! It is made from recyclable steel. Storage Once opened if not used it can be stored in the fridge in a non-metallic container for up to 2 days. Cooking If you want to heat them as they are tip into a pan and heat gently for about 4 minutes until hot stirring gently. I never serve them this ...

Ever present in my store cupboard

Advantages: Cheap, tasty, easy to store and easy to use
Disadvantages: None

...a couple of tins of Tesco Value Chopped Tomatoes and realised that this is one product that it always present in my store cupboard. Now if it is something that I can’t do without I guess I’d better tell you about it! The Tesco Value range simply provides a low cost alternative to most of our basic items such as soap, fruit juice, tea, coffee, cola, cereals etc. Now there are some of these that I would not touch with a bargepole the obvious one ...
...and whatever the price! Tesco Value Chopped Tomatoes currently retail at 35p for a 400g can as opposed to other brands ranging from 48p to 99p per can. The can used to be plain white with a tomato on it and very obviously the value range but it has since been changed. I don’t know whether the change is to make the can look less ‘cheap’ because some people feel uncomfortable about others seeing ‘value’ products in their shopping trolley. Yes there ...

Tesco's Value Tinned Toms

Advantages: Economical and tasty
Disadvantages: None

...'value' blue and white striped Tesco logo. The ingredients are simply tomatoes (60%), tomato juice and citric acid. Each tin contains 2 servings. They are also suitable for vegetarians. They should be stored in a cool dry place and once opened, should be refrigerated and consumed within 2 days. On opening the tin you will find the chopped tomatoes in a fairly rich, thick sauce. To cook them you just have to heat gently for 4 minutes and stir occasionally, ...
...these tinned tomatoes a lot in my cooking. They are very versatile. I often use them in a cooked breakfast with eggs, bacon and sausage. I aslo like them as a simple meal ie tomatoes on toast. They are very juicy and very tasty. As well as using the tomatoes in this way I also use them in many other dishes, including lasagne, spaghetti bolognaisse and in stews and casseroles. The tomatoes are very nutritious. They are full of vitamin C and fibre. ...

Tommy Tarters anyone? Tesco Value Chopped tomatoes.

Advantages: A cheap and versatile product.
Disadvantages: Variation in juice & no ring pull may be inconvenient.

Review of Tesco Value Chopped tomatoes ==The Product== I am a very budget concious shopper these days and Tesco Value items feature strongly in my shopping trolley. I had never bought the chopped tinned tomatoes before and to be honest, I originally purchased these in error, as I usually buy the whole tinned plum tomatoes. However, once I'd tried these, I was a convert! ==Packaging, texture, taste and uses== The tomatoes are easily identified as ...
...irrelevant! I find the Tesco Value tomatoes to be really tasty and full of flavour. I won't pretend that they are as good as fresh plum tomatoes, but as canned tomatoes go, they are very good. I don't consider the Tesco Chopped tomatoes very useful in dishes where large pieces of tomato are required, but in a vegetable soup, pasta sauce or similar dish, they are ideal. No chopping, no messing about, just open the can, strain as required and off you ...

Review of Tesco Value Tinned Chopped Tomatoes

Tesco Value Tinned Chopped Tomatoes

Advantages: A basic stock cupboard accessory
Disadvantages: Nothing more!

...peas, here's the good old Tesco Value Chopped Tomatoes. Nuff said. Priced in the shop at 39p for a 400 gram tin...that's about 6p more than the peeled plum variety, chopped tomatoes are a staple of numerous foods - obvious ones such as bolognese and chilli, and despite their extremely cheap price, they are one of the most important parts of the meal. Naturally, there are more expensive varieties out there. Even other Tesco own brand ones cost more ...
...approximately 68 calories, so hardly a diet breaker either. At this point, people often tend to leave a recipe in which to include the product...but lets be honest, if you can't think of one for something such as Tesco Value Chopped Tomatoes, then I wouldn't bother buying it! ...

Fry-up anyone? How about a nice spag bol?

Advantages: Cheap, recyclable can, lots of tomatoes.
Disadvantages: The sauce is watery, no ring pull on the can.

...tin is approximately 20p in Tesco at present (can go up unannounced quite drastically!), a 400g tin has 68 calories, 11.2g sugar (high for what it is) and 0.4g of fat. So at least this is low in fat but what with it being cheap it is high in sugar (to give it an extra tang!). This tin does not have a ring pull so you'll need to use a conventional can-opener for this one (anything to keep costs down!). The tomatoes come already chopped so you can ...
...it is you are cooking. These are suitable for use in the oven, on the hob or in the slow cooker. The tomatoes are great for using in pasta sauces or in the slow cooker to make a lovely spaghetti bolognese or even in a slow-cooked stew (makes cheap cuts of meat taste beautiful!). The tomatoes are pretty high quality in my opinion and whilst I have noticed the odd occasional slightly green tomato or stem remaining these are fantastic for the price ...

Its a Fruit not a Vegtable

Advantages: Cheap and does the job
Disadvantages: none

Tesco Value Chopped Tomatoes.......... i think out of all the Tesco Value product that are avalible that this one has to be the best and perhaps the one i seem to buy most of. I have stacks of these tins lining my cupboard shelves becuase for under 20 pence for this 400 gram tin what you are getting is a bargain. These chopped tomatoes can be used in so many dishes and becuase we have a lot of pasta type dishes in our house these tins of tomatoes ...
...that i couldnt find a difference between these value tomatoes at this cheap price and other more expensive tomatoes with a more popular name. They are exactly what they say oin the tin, even if the label looks very cheap and with a trolley full of value goods i feel sometimes a little embarressed. But all i think of is i am not spending loads of money on food as i would rather be saving for a lovely home. The tomatoes inside are of a fair quality ...

Advantages: Erm...they are cheap
Disadvantages: You can tell they are cheap!

Great Value Store Cupboard Staple

Advantages: Tasty and Cheap
Disadvantages: No can opener on tin - but can not expect it for the price

Packaging Tesco Value Chopped Tomatoes come in a 400g tin, labelled with the Tesco Value red and white striped branding. As with the rest of their value tinned range there is no ‘built-in’ tin opener. This is no issue with me, I’ve a trusty tin opener! The Product The chopped tomatoes themselves look very similar to the more expensive branded chopped tomatoes, although I can see an immediate difference in the colour and consistency of the sauce, ...
...colour. However, the taste is very similar. I use the product to make a base for a curry, adding herbs and spices and blending into a paste with onions and garlic. I also use them in pasta dishes, chillis and soups and add herbs etc to flavour them. Sometimes the tomatoes do have the hard greeny coloured centres that you get when fresh toms are not quite ripened. This doesn’t take away from the taste at all in my opinion. The Price At 38p for ...

Review of Tesco Value Tinned Chopped Tomatoes

Very Cheap, Very Poor. TESCO VALUE TINNED TOMATOES

Advantages: really Cheap, won't kill you, no frills product
Disadvantages: worse than other economy choices, a lot of water, tasteless in comparison with others.

...cheap. yes, it's very poor. Tesco Value's range compares poorly with other supermarkets, often in price, but always on quality. The quality of this product in question is basic, or if you use a lot of this in your household, even less than that. Taste is vaguely metalic, watery and with no ziing to it. Perfectly acceptable to a lot of people. Quality product lulls between poor and satisfactory. Value for money is good over all. Other supermarkets ...
...in general I have found Tesco and Sainsbury's lagging behind in almost every category (except sales!). My honest opinion, buy only if you honestly can't afford anything else, it is worth going somewhere else to buy your tomatoes and you really won't be paying more than a few pence more, which will show up on your cooking and really add more value than those few pence. Please note as well how the next cheapest Tin of Tomatoes seems to be over 3 times ...

Review of Tesco Value Tinned Chopped Tomatoes

Simplicity!

Advantages: Great for all manner of recipes.
Disadvantages: Not the best quality.

...for something so simple? Tesco Value tomatoes come in a 400gram tin, a perfect size for most family meal recipes. I find they contain a good ratio of tomatoes to juice, I certainly don't feel like I am paying for the juice rather than the tomatoes but there is enough juice to make sure my recipes are nicely sloppy sauces. These aren't the best quality but for 21p I don't expect them to be. They can sometimes still have a little skin on but that ...
...on their own then they probably aren't for you but if you want to use them in recipes they are ideal and cut down on the cost. They are a great staple to keep in the cupboard for emergencies. If you want high quality you just have to pay the extra! ...

Review of Tesco Value Tinned Chopped Tomatoes

Quick review of Tesco Value Tinned Chopped Tomatoes

if you like tomatoes, chopped, in a tin and don't have much money then these should be right up your alley. From the moment you open the can the smell of freshly picked italian summer tomatoes doesn't hit you. Instead it's the smell of tinned tomatoes. I didn't like the green bits and there's rather a lot of them, i think they're called 'the top' or the 'eye' or the 'navel' or the 'way in' or the 'stalk sprocket' of the tomato. Overall you get what you pay for and the failings of this product will most likely go unnoticed by children and pensioners. ...
