...son was given was from Tesco and comprised wooden track in a figure of eight, complete with hump-backed bridge where the tracks crossed, a wooden engine and three carriages, plus a couple of buildings, animals and trees. The sections of track fitted together quite easily but loosely enough that now, age 3, my son is able to put it together himself. They are reasonably robust, and wipe-clean, but we have suffered one or two sections where the piece ... ...add more items from the Tesco range because they are so reasonably priced. I believe that the original set was around £10, although I looked for it in Tesco today and couldn't find that exact set. We have added the "station play set", which was £9.43. This includes a raised station platform and a waiting room, with ascending and descending track on each side. There is a tunnel under the station, so as the train approaches you, err, my son, can decide ...

...In my opinion, the Tesco train sets are just as good as the well known brands, such as Brio, but at a fraction of the price. Tescos may not sell such a wide variety of items as the Brio sets, but what do you expect, it's a supermarket!
The only downside i have found, is that the track does sometimes come apart, but i put this down to the fact that my son is climbing all over the tracks (baby on the line... trains are running late!), rather than ...

Santa bought my four year old the lovely mountain train set made by tesco. He desperately wanted a train set and when we were in Toysrus we would look at the brio sets and then look around the other toys. It was not unitl near to Christmas that I actually decided to look at the price. I was horrified to discover how expensive brio train sets were. I looked in several other shops ELC etc but they too were too expensive. I found a cheap set in ASDA ... ...or even near to the quality, so I decided not to buy the train set from there either. When we were shopping in Tescos my son pointed out the train sets and took a real interest in a lovely mpuntain train set which had had a wooden train set, a little bridge, wooden animals, trees, tunnels, trains, carriages, sign and mountains all for £24.99. This was perfect in every respect.
The quality is brilliant and comes with extras for real imaginative playing. ...
