Advantages Advantages Tastes OK, a healthier option, I like the recipe on the cardboard packaging

Disadvantages Disadvantages It only tastes OK, where’s the texture & garlic?

~~ Reminiscing ~~ I’ve only visited Greece once – it was Crete, to be exact, and sadly some years ago now. Amongst all the exciting foods we got to taste, it was houmous that probably stuck in my memory – along with tzatsiki, retsina, baklava, Greek yoghurt with honey … O.K. so maybe it’s stretching it a bit to say houmous was my absolute favourite, but I really liked its taste and texture. Over the years since I’ve tried lots of brands and quite often made my own, which wasn’t bad, actually. I don’t think any really had the same impact as eating it on fresh, crusty bread in the Cretan ... more

Advantages Advantages lower fat, sits ready on the shelf for you, tastes OK

Disadvantages Disadvantages no olive oil, one-dimensional taste, too much packaging

This is the first product I purchased because, and only because of Ciao review! This must be like losing your virginity. I read a review of a different Tesco houmous (the sundried tomato one), I liked it a lot and when I went to Tesco later the same day, I had a look in the appropriate section; a thing I rarely do as I don't want to tempt myself financially. I also have a morally righteous attitude to preparing your own food and purchasing ready-made things feels wasteful and supportive of corporate structures which just want our money. However, this time I was primed by the Ciao review and ... more

    Advantages Advantages Relatively cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages Pretty tasteless and bland

I LOVE houmous. My favourite thing to to do is to spread organic (usually Sainsbury's own brand) onto organic Nairn's oatcakes and eat at leisure. Organic varieties are usually quite expensive so when I was at my local Tesco the other week I decided to try Tesco's own brand reduced fat variety. Not having tried a non-fat houmous before, I really didn't know what to expect. I was fairly impressed with the price, but sometimes I think you only get what you pay for - and in this case I think I'm right. It just tasted 'wrong'. There was definitely something missing. It sat on my toungue and more ... more

    Advantages Advantages tastes good

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

I tried the Tesco houmus with butternut squash and it was scrummy. I thought it was going to be a really weird combination as i am only used to having butternut squash hot as either a soup or a veg with my sunday roast. This was a very pleasant suprise. The texture seemed slightly thicker than usual houmus and it was more yellow (due to the squash). I was dubious about trying it at first but the flavour was really nice. It was not as grainey as i have found some houmous to be and it had a slight tang. Not a tang like citrus or lemon more an after taste. This was where the squash came into it ... more

Advantages Advantages tastes remarkably like normal humus

    Disadvantages Disadvantages too tasty

I can't begin to tell you how impressed I was when I purchased this from my local tesco metro, a nice tub of healthy chick pea indulgence, at less than £1.50 a pop!!! The taste and texture of this humus is so similiar to the original "full fat" version that those on diets won't notice the difference. Additionally if you're on a diet at the moment humus is ideal as you can dip all sorts of healthy alternatives into it like celery, carrots or even peppers! The quality as ever for the price is spot on, with the packaging being resealable, the smell is fantastic... In conclusion a fabulous product ... more
