Advantages Advantages Reasonably priced, easy to drink!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Very sweet

Ah! I’ve gone a little while now without writing about anything alcoholic so I feel the time is right for another wine review! Of course, I hardly ever touch the stuff really, it’s all in the name of research… ;o) This time? The item under scrutiny is Tesco’s Hock. As usual I have bought the large 3 litre box full of the stuff for about £7.50 but it is also available in standard(75cl) and large bottle sizes and is reasonably priced too – about £3.00 for the standard bottle. They’ve certainly spared every expense on the box design anyway! It looks a little cheap, admittedly, in simple brown and ... more

I decided to check out the wine offers at my local TESCO, following on from my purchase of red I decided to go for the white. Tesco Hock at £2.06 for 75cl was on offer; this coupled with my 50 points club card wine coupon made for a potentially good deal. ***THE PRODUCT*** The wine came in a glass bottle 9% alc by volume. It has a screw top slim glass bottle. The front label is white/green with details of the product plainly stamped, on the left side further details concerning consumption and storage. There is no label on the back; this is unusual for Tesco. The Hock produce of Germany ... more

Advantages Advantages cheap, light and low alcohol content

Disadvantages Disadvantages very sweet and low alcohol content

Normally I wouldn't even think about buying a bottle of wine that comes with a screw cap, but for research purposes I'll let it slip this time!! ""HOCK"" Hock is a wine that uses a variety of grapes from the Rhine in Germany and it represents the wine that is grown in that region. ""TESCO HOCK"" The particular wine in question is Tesco Hock and I purchased the 75cl bottle for £1.89. The wine is also available in 150cl bottles and crates of 12 from their website. ""PACKAGING"" As you expect from a wine it comes in a bottle. Nothing flashy, a normal brown bottle with a screw cap and brown label ... more

    Advantages Advantages cheaply priced

Disadvantages Disadvantages goes down to well

This is one of my favourite must haves tesco hock is very cheap to buy at only £1.98 for a 75cl bottle or £3.98 for a 1.5l bottle, i always buy the 1.5l bottle as the 75cl bottle doesn't last as long. If like me you don't like a wine that is too dry you will love this it is refreshing and fruity and leaves you wanting more. The wine itself is classified at tesco as a medium white wine but i would say this was more medium sweet it has a lovely fruity taste and goes great with any meal you cook. Imagine yourself on a long hot summer day sat in the garden relaxing or haveing a bbq with friends ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Too easily drunk

Now I'm not going to bore the readers with the label from the back of the bottle which tells you which grapes are in this wine, because frankly that isn't an issue for me. The wine is German. It is very sweet and a white wine. Now for those who like dry wines this would probably be deemed sickly sweet, and taste repulsive. For those of us that aren't as up to speed about the difference between a chablis or a chardonnay like myself then read on. As a student, price is a key factor for me when selecting a carryout for an evening. For a 750ml bottle of this currently costs £1.88. Yes, one pound ... more

ITEM DESCRIPTION..... This is a sweet too medium white wine which is around 9.0% vol. with a very sweet fruity flavour. I have been drinking this wine since my first days of drinking when I wasn't so well behaved & I still have the odd glass today as I still enjoy this as a casual drink. WHAT I THINK ABOUT THIS PRODUCT...... I very much enjoy this wine as it has a very sweet, fruity flavour to it and you can enjoy it with almost any meal from chicken too spaghetti bologneise, its even enjoyable on its own as a casual drink, and what's so great about this is that it is inexpensive and what I ... more

Advantages Advantages Its cheap very cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages makes you wonder why its so cheap

Tesco's Hock is my favourite wine, it comes in two sized bottles, one is 1.5 litre and the other is 75cl. My student experiences drinking this wine have created many a story. Why did i buy this wine and not any of the others? Well, it was the cheapest, at £1.86 for 1.5l bottle its great value and £3.90 for the 75cl bottle from sainsburys, the prices do change over certain supermarkets but only by a few pence. I started to drink this wine with my girlfriend at the time as we watched a film and ate dinner. We found that it goes so well with a curry and also it can be used to cook with. The ... more
