This is my World Cup op and I am here to tell you about it. So just in case you don‘t know... What is the World Cup? ------------------------- The World Cup is held every four years with 32 contenders. It all starts from two years before the actual World Cup, (called the World Cup finals) with the qualifying. It depends how well the many more than 32 contenders do in qualifying to who will compete. For just over 2 weeks from the start of the finals there is what is called the 'group stages'. The 32 contenders are split into 8 groups of 4, and everyone in the groups plays everybody else ... more

Advantages Advantages Loads of superb footy to watch :)

Disadvantages Disadvantages Ridiculous times the matches are on :(

Oh well, with the football season just finished, you’d think all us football followers would be feeling a bit down in the dumps, I mean come on, what the hell are we going to do with ourselves on a Saturday/Sunday afternoon/evening over the next few months? What, with no football matches to attend/watch/listen to, I suppose we could all go on a holiday/break or even do the unthinkable and go shopping with the missus for once, we could get those DIY jobs that have been left half-done from last summer, finished…Or we could just sit there and wallow in self-pity and pine for the new football ... more

Well, the world cup 2002 was something great, but also a little bit disappointing, it was kind of that parties you don´t how to talk about. You don´t know how to rate and don´t know what to tell your friends you think about it. But, here´s my chance and I´ll try. Generally bad Well, call me old-fashioned, but from my point of view football world cups should be held in Europe or South America, where football is football, with a noisy corwd, with a lot of great fans and tradition. Maybe it was something special for Asia holding the World Cup. But remember the crowds in games like South Africa ... more

Advantages Advantages You can make a lot of money

Disadvantages Disadvantages You can get sick to death of hearing about it

The focus of today's attention is that seminal sporting event The FIFA World Cup. Blokes love football - don’t we? We can talk about it for hours down the pub, in the office or just about anywhere else. Anyone who doesn’t like football needs their head examined – what’s wrong with them? They must be mad! Wrong. Let me cast any shadow of a doubt from your mind – I f**ing hate football. Nonetheless, I am a realist, and I know that it makes a lot of people happy, so I can generally live with it. But when it comes to the bloody World Cup, then it’s a different ... more

Advantages Advantages Biggest tournament in football history, The ultimate achievement for a team and for the players, Provides some of the most exciting footballs and the occasional unexpected result and twist and turns

Disadvantages Disadvantages Losing and when it's all over

As most of us are aware the World Cup 2002 comprises of eight groups. Each group consists of four teams. Four of these groups will be played in Korea and four will be played in Japan. These are my predictions and my appraisal of the teams concerned. Group A --------- France Senegal Uruguay Denmark Uruguay is an exceptional team with very talented players who are full of flair. Most of there players play in Italy, which alone speaks for their quality. They also qualified quite impressively irrespective of their final playoff game with Australia. Another team to watch out for will be Senegal ... more

So the biggest footballing event in the world is less than two weeks away and everyone is giving their expert opinion on who will win the 2002 World Cup, well never one to knock at trends here I go with my synopsis of the 2002 World Cup Finals to be held in Japan and South Korea in May and June. I could sum up this opinion in one word but that would be pretty boring so if you want to know my current tip as to the eventual winners I am afraid you will just have to read on...... As an aside I would just like to say that it is nice to see the World Cup breaking from it's traditional ... more

Advantages Advantages more excuses to get drunk, something to entertain you

Disadvantages Disadvantages too many hooligans, too much violence and stupidity

It is finally upon us again. The bigest football tournament in the history of football. The World Cup is a massive football event which is held every 4 years in a different country. Every coutry competes and has to qualify and then these countries go through to have a chance of winning the cup. This year it is being held way way over the other side of the world to us in Korea, Japan. My country England did so well to get through I was really looking forward to seeing them play and possibly even win some matches. However they have had extremely bad luck these last few months with injuries and ... more

I have a confession to make. Take a deep breath. I am not a football fan! I can almost here your shock. But wait, I have to admit that while I am not a great football fan, I have really enjoyed the 2002 World Cup. So this is an opinion from a different perspective - from someone whose life isn't revolved around a bag of leather... I have never really been interested in football. My family aren't really football fans so I didn't get the headstart many of my footie-mad friends did when they were younger. In that case I haven't really got a favourite team and I don't go out of my way to watch ... more

Advantages Advantages A chance for the Asians to put on a good show

Disadvantages Disadvantages May be a while before they get another chance

Asia hosts it’s first FIFA World Cup this summer in an exciting move away from the Europe/Americas axis. The decision wasn’t so much a brave one, more the obvious one. Soccer interest in the far east has never been greater and the infrastructure is certainly in place. Without question, the 2002 World Cup co-hosted in Japan and South Korea is likely to be one of the best-organised and most colourful events in the history of sport. But what of the football? Well, to start, I honestly believe the draw to be flawed. It’s always been the case that teams that meet in the first round cannot do so ... more
