    Advantages Advantages Interesting, lots of detail in a slim volume

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Shocking, upsetting subject matter.

    Please ignore the incorrect picture provided by Ciao. In this Horrible History, Terry Deary explores how Britain acquired an empire which spanned a quarter of the globe, revealing the shocking truth of how Brittania really ruled the waves. From what I have gleaned from talking to my children, the rise of the British Empire does not seem to feature prominently in school history lessons today. It has been suggested that this might be because of the racial tensions that could be created in the classroom if such an emotive topic was covered.     The Horrible Histories series of books has become an addiction of mine, ever since I picked up my first, The Gorgeous Gerogians, form a charity shop a couple of months ago. Since then, I've read, and reviewed several more . My collection recieved a huge boost last tuesday when I went to charity shop and picked up 10 books in the series for a mere 29 pence each. The Horrible Histories series is published by scholastic, and is written by Terry Deary, who has authored some 200 books, and illustrated by Martin Brown .
