Advantages Advantages Very natural appearance, no streaks, cost, nice smell

Have added an update to include the Body Shop's 'No Messing Self-Tan Mitt'. How's your bod looking? Do you dare to bare or are you still wearing that pale, pasty winter look? The weather's warming up, the hot pants and bikinis are being dusted down, the BBQs at the ready - what are you waiting for? Apparantly 90% of us women are not to keen to strip. Reasons being, we think are legs are too short, too fat or mottled with thread or varicose veins. Fear not, I have the product for you and it won't break the bank. Fake It! from the good old Body Shop will give you the ultimate in safe, natural ... more

    Advantages Advantages Rich colour

Disadvantages Disadvantages Seems to wear off in patches

I started using fake tan last year before I went on holiday. I'm a pretty pale person, and this can be really embarassing on a beach! Why use fake tan? To step out of the hotel room on your first day in the bikini already with a hint of colour is quite a confidence boost against all those bronzed bodies! If you can't go on holiday you can at least feel like you have....sort of! It's safer than laying in the sun (and I personally find a lot less boring!) Why "Body Shop Fake It" self tan? I have tried Sainsburys cream (very good) and Avon spray on (also good!) but didn't have either with me, so ... more

Advantages Advantages gives even coverage, natural colour

Disadvantages Disadvantages takes long time to dry

Fake it like a pro… Last year I wrote an opinion on a fake tan, and as the weather appears to have perked up recently I thought is was time to write another… And of course, the impromptu purchase had nothing to do with standing behind a stunning brunette with bronzed skin while in a never-ending queue in Hennes two days ago… Well, anyway, I decided that it was time to get out the fake tan. After discovering that’s my bottle from last year was almost empty, I thought that I may as well buy a brand new one. The Body Shop was the first place I stopped at, as Boots has a ... more

Advantages Advantages Great colour, no streaks, nice smell, cheap, long-lasting

Disadvantages Disadvantages A little longer to dry than some other brands

I am a natural blonde with whiter than white skin and a tendency to grow purple bruises all over my legs for no apparent reason (nothing to do with habitual walking into tables etc. of course…). I’ve been a fake tan devotee for the last 5 years and have tried everything going. At the beginning of the current hot spell, I went to Boots to get my usual brand and discovered that it was out of stock so I bought one of the Body Shop’s Fake It! Tanning kits as a cheap option to tide me over. I was a little concerned about using a Body Shop fake tan – brand snobbery maybe but ... more

Advantages Advantages easy to apply, natural colour, good price

Disadvantages Disadvantages its not a real tan

I recently decided to buy my first ever fake tan a few months back. I didn't mean to really, i had to !!! I tan quite easily and i use sunbeds occasionally and always seem to have a nice colour by having a sunbed about once a week. After last Christmas i must have got complacent and lazy and before i knew it, i hadn't had a sunbed in about 7 months and looked ghastly. I had a night out to go to and you can get a tan onvernight, unless you fake it of course and that my friends was my only option !!! Now the desicion, what to buy ? I had no idea, i had never bought fake tan before so on the ... more

Advantages Advantages even colour, fades gradually

    Disadvantages Disadvantages expensive

I love this tanning lotion. I have slightly red hair, pale skin and freckles, so the best I can hope for is a nice all over pink glow! Last year I discovered the bodyshop fake it tanning lotion purely by chance, I was lookinh for mousturiser and I knocked over a stand of tanning lotion (embarasing or what!) Anyway, this stuff is so wonderful, it is a bit longwinded to apply though. First you need to have a shower, then exfoliate your skin (I find bodyshop rice bran scrub particularly good) then mousturise, then finally apply the tanning lotion with a mitt. It takes about 4 hours to develop ... more

    Advantages Advantages cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages smells bad, makes you go orange, streaky

This weekend (23/6/2001 - 24/6/2001), along with many other people i'm sure, I burnt - BADLY whilst sunning myself on the scummy sands of Bournemouth beach. I am SSOOOOOOOO sore, you wouldn't believe!! My handbag is gradually chewing through my shoulder and the bones in my bra are digging in. (I believe this is torchure in some countries!) Anyway, to get to my point, The safest and most comfortable way to tan, is definately to fake it. Bodyshop used to do a lovely "watermelon" fake tan, which went on a treat, with no streaks and no nasty smell. However, as always, they have removed this ... more

    Advantages Advantages Easy, impressive, cruelty-free

Disadvantages Disadvantages Messy if not using Body Shop body and face applicators

I am a total convert to self tanning thanks to this product - applied properly, it gives a wonderfully natural bronzed tan, which I get many compliments on. Fake tans actually have many advantages over the 'natural' kind: First, tanning in England is not easy, especially if you work 40 hours a week indoors; you may go through a whole summer barely seeing the sun at all. Second, holidays abroad are expensive, and maybe you don't want to spend the whole time in the sun. And third, sun tanning is bad for your skin! I don't want to get all wrinkly and leathery when I'm older, but I also don't want ... more

Advantages Advantages Tan without the damage

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Bit pricey

That is what is on the bottle of the Body Shop Fake It Self tan Lotion - Save our skins - fake it. Even in this day and age people are still relatively unaware of the harmful rays of the sun on our skins. I have quite a dark skin tone and so bought the "Dark" variety of the Fake It. It was in a 200 ml orange tube, which looked very nice, but the main reason for buying from the Body Shop - they do not test on animals and I like to look as if I actually went abroad this year instead of camping in the mud and rain, in the cold, with spiders .. sorry I digress.. This lotion has a strange buttery ... more

Advantages Advantages Nice BROWN tan without burning up in the sun

Disadvantages Disadvantages Takes too long to work, the smell, the price

The sun is no problem for me as I live in Malta (Europe).. but still I like to take care of my skin and of my hair and won't have them exposed at a UV index of 11+, which is quite dangerous. Still I like the 'summer look'. My first encounter with a fake tan was with the Rimmel self-tan wipes ( I didn't want to spend too much on something which I was not sure about)... which left me well..err..too orangey for my tastes. Afterwards I decided to get a 'real' fake tan and tried with The Body Shop one. In my Disadvantages section I listed the smell. The smell is not horrible but it is horrible if ... more
