The Body Shop - Too Bad You Can't Buy Replacement Body Here!

Advantages: Excellent products, great smell and environmentally friendly.
Disadvantages: Very expensive products.

...It is one of the most visited beauty shops by women and MEN equally . . . The reputation and the popularity of the shop is not only throughout the UK but also spread globally. There is no surprise that it had over 2400 shops worldwide diverse between small shops and mega stores expanded over sixty one different countries in most Europe, the Middle East, South Africa and the United States of America! Many years ago, while I was struggling to look ...
...jobs. == What is The Body Shop? == Oh . . . The Body Shop’s name doesn’t sound exciting, actually I thought it was quite daft and boring, but it was the choice of the store’s founder, Anita Roddick (and her husband), who opened the first store on the 26th March 1976 in Brighton! From there it was the beginning of the new era of the store. Year after year, The Body Shop has flourished and expanded from locally to nationally; and finally internationally ...

***UPDATED**** My Happy Ending :)

Advantages: Great Scents, Brilliant Make-up range, see more in review!
Disadvantages: Customer service, slight bit over-priced??

=== UPDATE === Where the row of asterisk's are in my review is where I have updated it. I am not going to delete or change anything I have said previously, as that was my experience and nothing can change that. But the more helpful members of staff have restored my faith in The Body Shop... If you like a wide range of brilliant bath and body products, fabulous make-up and the some of the best make-up brushes you may ever come across, this is the ...
...I have heard is brilliant! The Body Shop is extremely popular and well-known. They also have great values, such as looking after the planet, which pleases me. == The Good == As I said, lovely products, all smelling delicious. They have many different scents which is great, as I'm sure everybody will find a scent they like. Their make-up range, Nature's Mineral's, is fabulous! They also have a great facial skincare range and beautiful gifts which ...

decisions, decisions...

Advantages: good ethical values, great quality products, lovely smelling shops
Disadvantages: some doubt the good work they do, their shops are all reeeeeally small

...for a shop, really. The Body Shop. And yet it is an extremely well known name, recently voted the 27th most respected company in the world by the Financial Times and the 2nd best brand in the retail sector by the 1997 Interbrand survey (see www.thebodyshop.com for more details). Born in Brighton in 1976, for almost thirty years now The Body Shop has been providing natural, environmentally friendly products on the high street, at high street prices ...
...Shop stores across the UK, and more internationally. All stores have the same range of products. I personally have visited probably ten or eleven stores across the north of England and have found that prices are uniform throughout these stores, as is the décor and general style of the shop. The inside of The Body Shop is always neat and tidy, and the products arranged in attractive displays. They are usually arranged by ‘type’; so all white musk ...

The Body Shop - lovely ethical products

Advantages: Extensive range of ethical products
Disadvantages: Quite pricey

COMPANY INFORMATION: The Body Shop is a British high street store selling cosmetics, beauty products, toiletries and gifts; Dame Anita Roddick founded it in 1976 and there are now over 2,400 spanning across 61 countries. The Body Shop markets itself as an ethical organisation that supports fair trade and is against animal testing. PRODUCT RANGE: The Body Shop is one of the most well known British brands of 'natural' beauty products. Think of a part ...
...as bath and body products, The Body Shop also does an extensive range of skincare products that use natural ingredients that are good for the skin such as tea tree oil. These are separated into ranges to suit different skin types but which are still based on a main ingredient such as a range of products using jojoba for dry skin. In these ranges you will find the usual types of products you would expect from a skincare range like cleansers, toners ...

The Body Shop Rediscovered…….at a bargain price!

Advantages: Big discounts
Disadvantages: Temptation to overspend!

...is it a review of the company's business practices, policy on animal testing or community trade practices. These may be the subject of future reviews, but this is simply about a reacquaintance with an old friend! Discovery When I returned to the UK 6yrs ago, after 17yrs living in South Africa, I discovered The Body Shop! I was a devotee of their lovely, rich body lotions and butters as well as their exotic bath and shower gels, creams and oils. ...
...linen, luscious fruity lip balms….and the list goes on….., I am a very girly girl who adores perfume, bath and body goodies, cosmetics, and general indulgence. Compared to what had been available in SA, I was amazed at all the different brands- and the extent of their ranges-that I now had access to. I was in beauty product heaven! Shopping took on a whole new meaning. I enjoyed experimenting with different lotions and potions and there were soooooooo ...

The Perils of Being an Ethical Consumer

Advantages: environmentally friendly, non-beastie testing, fair-trading, recycle-able, nice smelly stuff
Disadvantages: expense, irritatingly small shops, and some worrying stuff from Greenpeace

...with fairtrade fortnight reviews, and the odd ethically encouraging product review to spur me along. I certainly didn’t know much about the evils of Nestle before Ciao, and now it really does make a difference when I scan the supermarket shelves for chocolate. Not only do I go for the biggest bar, I try to stick with Cadburys! And so I found myself wondering about the Body Shop. Before researching this review, I knew very little about the company ...
...with) is simple but effective: the Body Shop is a caring company who prevents the suffering of animals, sells “natural” products, and who helps to protect the environment and third world producers. Oh, and that they recycle their packaging. I knew that: you just take it back to the shop. I feel guilty every time I throw plastic in the bin, so I thought shopping at the Body Shop might alleviate some guilt. But then I read this article on the web: ...

My Body Shop

Advantages: Love it
Disadvantages: Price.

...have loved and respected since the age of around 10. When I was younger, I was looked after a lot by an auntie who was a big animal rights campaigner and due to me looking up to her so much, I not only learnt a lot about different products and companies and methods of animal testing but I also managed to acquire come beliefs which I still hold. When I was about 12 years old I wrote a really beautiful email to the body shop HQ telling them about ...
...not have to look on the back of the item to see if it's tested on animals or not, it is a company policy and people can stick to their beliefs by shopping with a company like themselves. Within an hour of sending the email, I received a really friendly, and lengthy reply which has forever made me feel that The Body Shop are a great company who have their priorities correct. I still stand by the belief that animal testing is complete cruelty, but ...

They've Got You Covered

Advantages: Nice range of items, no overwhelming smells, natural products, nice displays, always innovative and a high moral standard
Disadvantages: Prices not cheap, many shops are small and dark, they discontinue products too quicly

In the US I’ve wandered Body Shop stores from Glendale, California to Skokie, Illinois to New York, New York! I’ve stopped by UK Body Shops in London, York and Oxford. There’s one I often visit when I’m in Amsterdam, and I even peeked into one of their Dublin stores many years ago. Most recently I found a Body Shop in Bucharest, Romania of all places. So, you might say that I’ve been in Body Shop stores all over the world. I therefore thought that ...
...Like its name suggests, the Body Shop has items that are primarily to be used for the outside of your body. This means it doesn’t have items that are consumed orally, but only items that are applied externally. That some of them will effect your internal health by their scents or osmosis is just an added advantage. Specifically, Body Shops have the following types of products: Bath Products - these include bath & shower creams, gels and scrubs. ...

All fur coat and no knickers

Advantages: Shops look great and smell even better
Disadvantages: Product quality

Everyone knows the Body Shop. Brainchild of the wild-haired Anita Roddick, it stormed to prominence in the ‘80s with its fair world trade philosophy, its promotion of natural ingredients and its up-down-up-down share price and the constant is-it-or-isn’t-it-going-bust stories in the press. The Shops: All Body Shop stores are the same. Dark green fittings and shelves upon shelves of gorgeously simple looking beauty products. None have ...
...hell for wheelchair users. The Claims: The Body Shop claim to only use goods that are from renewable resources, to trade fairly with the countries from which they import goods, and to absolutely not test on animals. I don’t know how true any of this is. I do remember some controversy a few years back about them using products that have been tested on animals by other companies, even though they don’t test on animals themselves. I’ve ...

Rotten Liars

Advantages: Pretty. Presents for your grandmother.
Disadvantages: They are rotten liars. Their products have ingredients which have been tested on animals.

The Body Shop has done a good job of presenting itself as a politically correct, animal friendly place where you can buy products from without having to worry. You’ve been tricked. I’ve been tricked. They make wide use of non-renewable petrochemicals; synthetic colours, fragrances and preservatives are used in their “Natural” products. It is the same story with many of these multi-national companies. There are even some experts who have warned ...
...of the synthetic ingredients. Worse of all, in my mind, the Body Shop also regularly irradiate certain products to try to kill microbes. The Body Shop says it is against it. Well, I imagine that might be the case, but that does not seem to stop them using ingredients in their products have been tested on animals by other companies. You’ll also be able to find Body Shop products that have gelatine in them - gelatine, by the way, is produced from ...

Great products

Advantages: Good range of stuff
Disadvantages: Tested on animals

...day as a member reading the opinions of other people and quite frankly I am very impressed by the quality of stuff people write; I am not sure that I can match this myself, there seems to be so much good writing out there. My first opinion is on Body Shop. i am a regular shopper there, I was not put off by the revelations that despite their advertising some of the ingredients of their products are tested on animals. I don't agree with this but lets ...
...body lotions, soaps, you know the sort of thing I am sure. Their range seems a bit limited though, not a huge sellection of different scents but their is quite a wide variety of gift sets and combinations for you to try, often sold in neat little baskets which can come in quite handy after the products they came with are long gone. Most of their goods are made from natural ingredients, coconut, strawberry, lavender, rose and smell very much like ...

Helping them to help others

Advantages: The charities and values they stand for
Disadvantages: little too expensive

...everyone on some level loves the body shop, and we should it has been around for over 30 years. I worked for the body shop doing parties at peoples homes and was extremely lucky to get a ton of products for barely any thing! As most people know the Body Shop was opened by Anita Roddick in the who has now been made a Dame and she is the Campaigner and founder of the body shop. She opened her first store in Brighton on the 26th of March 1976 selling ...
...is why she called it the body shop! She is excellent to her staff and often opens up her home to them and throws garden parties and award ceremonies. She now has shops world wide and which ever country i go to I still go in! She also raises a lot of money for charities and in 1990 she founded children on the edge to alleviate the suffering in Romanian orphanages but gradually the charity has spread throughout the world. The bag of passion that ...

A shop that sells products for your body (of course!).

Advantages: Great products, helpful staff, lots of space, nice & tidy.
Disadvantages: Some of the products are overpriced.

...local store is located on the High Street and is quite noticable and as such I often find myself either drawn in because of a special offer or just the delicious scent that comes out as I walk past. The store is well laid out and specialises in selling make-up and toiletries that has not been tested on animals. This means that for the most part these products are fairly guilt free if a little pricey. They normally have toiletries around the outside ...
...the centre of the store. I always find the staff in my local branch to be very helpful and always willing to assist me with finding something within my budget or even just finding a nice gift for a friend or relative. They also keep the store nice and tidy and queues to a minimum so I scarcely ever have to wait at all to be served (except during Christmas of course!). They sell lots of lovely scented products including body butter, moisturiser, ...

The Body Shop Rocks!

Advantages: Benefits outside of the company. Natural. Animal Friendly. Quality products.
Disadvantages: Luxury item prices. No heat protecting treatment.

The Body Shop is a well established company and I love all of their products. My favourites are the body butters, lip balms, soaps, face cleansing/moisturising, fragrances and makeup. (Their massage products are awesome as well!) Though the prices are just above my budget I always save up for their goods because they are quality, kept close to nature and are animal friendly (which is very important for me). I never regret it. I believe that as a ...
...in. The one issue I am unsure of is that the company was bought by L'oreal. L'oreal test their products on animals but as far as I know, they are taking points from the Body Shop and are looking for alternative methods. Hence, the Body Shop has and will remain - cruelty free. The choice is always easy for me and I buy all my essentials from there. <3 xoox ...

The body Beautiful

Advantages: Good range, reasonable prices
Disadvantages: None

...Roddik certainly seemed to hit the mark with the Body Shop. My wife shops there with frightening regularity and I always look in there when searching for a present for her (my wife that is not Anita)or my daughters. Their range of products is quite extensive and the shops are always well laid out neat and tidy. The smell as you enter fills the air with a blend of exotic herbs and fragrancies and is enough to make you want to buy something. A particular ...
