I dislike being a member of Book clubs which stipulate that you have to order a certain number of books a year to remain a member. This is where I discovered The Book People. My mum has been a member of this company for years, and when I moved out of home, I decided I would join up for myself so that I could order myself some books! And I really think that it's one of the best things I have done to save myself a bit of money especially because I, and now my 18 month old son Harry, are book obsessives! Now all of the books sold by The Book People are massively discounted which is a huge ... more

Like most people I love a bargain! I also love buying books, both for myself as presents. So when I discovered The book people a few months ago I was very happy indeed! The book people. ************** The Book people are a company selling discounted books. They are not a club so there is no minimum number of books to purchase or any other catches. They simply sell books at hugely discounted prices. There is no shop to browse but you can either order from their web site at www.thebookpeople.co.uk or you can request a catalogue and use the enclosed order form or alternatively you can phone your ... more

If you love books and enjoy a good bargain, then look no further! The Book People are exactly what you need. Now, this isnt your 'usual' type of book club, like World Books for example, you will not be expected to buy a certain amount of books per year and you will not be sent books every month which you have to send back or pay for. When you join, all you will be sent is a thin brochure which shows a selection of the books they offer at fantastic prices. That is it. Read on for more amazement! The key features are: The books are cheap (examples below) The books are good quality You earn 1 ... more

Do you love books, but often are put off by the price, well then you need to get your self a copy of THE BOOK PEOPLE- This is a mail order catalogue that is not like any other book club that I have ever come across. You are probably wondering why, well the best thing is that there is no joining fee, and there is no hidden clause to say that you have to purchase at least four or whatever a month. They never send you books for trail, which you are not interested in and have to pay to return them. This is a brilliant catalogue, and the prices are unbeatable. Once you ring up and order your first ... more

Advantages Advantages cheap up to date books, site is userfriendly, customer service is excellent

Disadvantages Disadvantages selection of books is slightly limited

Have you ever been tempted to join one of those book clubs that advertise great books at even greater prices. They do often live up to their claims but there is always a catch. You are usually required to buy a certain number of books from them over a period of time. On top of this, they generally send you a catalogue once a month containing an 'editor's choice'. This is a book which they have selected 'especially for you' and will send to you if you do not respond within a few days to say you do not want it. I have been a member of two book clubs and I cannot tell you how many times I have ... more

Who they are -------------------- The claim to be one of the UKs largest suppliers of top quality books offering unbeatable prices and excellent service. They are not a book club so you have no obligation to buy from their catalogues. Prices often are between 50 and 70% off the recommended retail price. They keep prices low by buying in bulk and selling direct to the customer therefore reducing overheads. The downside of this is that they do not have a huge selection of books. The company started in 1988 and is based in Bangor. Over the past few years they have been working on expanding their ... more

Advantages Advantages Good source of cheap books

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none really

The Book People is a book club, but one which doesn’t fit into the normal categories. There is absolutely no commitment you can buy as many or as few books as you want, there are no special introductory offers and there is no Editor’s choice which you have to accept or reject each month. However it is an excellent source of cheap books. So how does it work; well every six to seven weeks you receive a 20 page magazine which lists all the books they have on offer at that particular time and you make your selection, or if you don’t want any then you just ignore it. You can then ... more

I first came across 'The Book People' when they used to come round to my place of work each week and drop off a different batch of books. They used to leave a sample of each book and a price list and order form that you could then fill in and have your book brought within a couple of weeks to your work place. I used to love having a look at the latest delivery as they were all brilliant value and had a range for both adults and children. Occasionally they had items other than books such as cookwear, childrens toys etc. I then left the company and found myself missing the great value of The ... more

Advantages Advantages You can buy 3 books+ for the price of one!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Their website can be a bit difficult to get around though it is improving and is worth the hassle

I am a big book person and love treating myself and my partner as well as my kids to books are often as is possible. Unfortunately, kids books in particular can be quite pricey on the high street so it isn't always possible. That is until a couple of years ago when I got a leaflet through my door for The Book People. Since then I have become a card carrying member of the book people thanks to my many, many, many orders over the last couple of years. They have fantastic selection, particularly for kids books and Lifestyle books (cooking, travelling etc). and the prices are amazing! most of the ... more

Advantages Advantages Real Bargins on books, very good reductions and some not in shops

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very bad delivery service, either late or just not delivered, instruction on delivery ignored

I've ordered from Bookpeople a few times. The books themselves are good quality and contain some real bargains especially some of the bundles of books. Very hady for presents espically the Childrens books. They are badly let down by their delivery service and customer service and general attitude. Delivery has been very late and although you can give delivery instructions these are often ignored. This might have lead to theft of one of our parcels. On the last order they failed to deliver nearly all the order and then declared the rest of it out of stock, leaving us in the lurch just before ... more
