The Bulb Expert - D.G. Hessayon

The latest addition to my gardening library is The bulb expert by DR Hessayon . I managed to buy it for £1.99 which I'm pleased about as the cover price is £5.99 . This is a book first published in 1995 so it is not the latest in the long line of "expert " books but it is one of the best in my view. The book has 128 pages and is full colour throughout like other expert books. The book starts off with an interesting short chapter on the history ...

The book looks at all forms of bulbs not just "true " bulbs . By other forms of bulb I mean tubers , corms , rhizomes etc which are not strictly speaking bulbs at all . It's 1/4in (1cm) thick, with a softbacked semi-wipeable cover, (useful if taken into the garden), approx. 7 x 9ins (18 x 24cm for those metrically minded). Reasonable priced for the info. you're getting, stocked by good garden centres, or even appearing as offers in book clubs if you keep your eyes peeled. ...Horticulture course at college. The book is easy to read and the layout is easy to get around. The book covers an explanation about what bulbs are and what the different type of bulbs do. The book has a section on different varieties of bulbs which are placed in alphabetic order, which does really help.
