Elementary, my dear reader...

Advantages: Holmes and Watson, plus classic illustrations
Disadvantages: I detect none

Within a few days, I was disappointed with my wonderful new book because it was incomplete. I had devoured all of the selected stories, and was ready for more. Shortly thereafter, I ...
...volumes was illustrated. The original stories, which appeared in 'The Strand' magazine, were illustrated, by the great illustrator Sidney Paget. Actually, careful research (which Holmes himself would insist upon) will reveal that Paget was not the first illustrator; however, it is not able to be determined conclusively how many artists preceding Paget. It is know that the first publication of 'A Study in Scarlet', in which Holmes and Watson are first ...

Still the greatest detective

Advantages: All of Sir Arthur's stories of Sherlock Holmes

...100 years ago. Such was the characters popularity that when Sir Arthur Conan Doyle decided it was time to move on, and killed Holmes off, that public outcry forced him to re-surrect Holmes and write over 20 more stories. It is quite a well known fact that of all the characters ever portrayed on film, Sherlock Holmes is the most prolific. He has been played by actors such as Basil Rathbone and arguably the best portrayal was by Jeremy Brett, an actor ...
...created in 1887. The first novel he appeared in was A Study in Scarlet and this is the first novel (obviously) in this collection of stories. All of the classics are here, including the Hound of the Baskervilles and The Sign of Four as well as all of the short stories. (Full list at bottom) Sherlock Holmes was a bachelor, living at the now famous 221b Baker Street and was the premier Victorian detective, ably assisted by his friend Dr. John Watson. ...

Complete Sherlock Holmes, 'welcome to 221b...'

Advantages: Brilliant stories, good presentation, well laid out, iconic characters
Disadvantages: Repetitive

...reading these stories. One of the many pros is in that, as with any collection of short stories, you can read entirely at your leisure. The Complete Sherlock Holmes is no different, it is in fact most probably better, as the stories are ordered chronologically (The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, The Casebook, The Memoirs etc.), allowing the reader to browse either randomly or to read from front to back the events of Holmes and Watson's adventures. ...
...story is as gripping as the last, which makes for excellent reading whether just passing the time or relaxing. In addition to the short story collections, there are also the main novels written by Conan Doyle, the most noticeable being 'The Hound of the Baskervilles'. These are also preceded chronologically, and so the reader can grow along with the characters. The presentation is excellent, especially for such a full body of work. And as for the ...

Advantages: So many different stories, all of which are excellent.
Disadvantages: Can't think of any.

What can I say about the best books I have ever read? Sherlock Holmes is a creation of genious with an interlect we can only aspire to. The complete Sherlock Holmes consists of 52 short stories and 4 novels. Each short story is another mysterious case for the super sleuth of which not all of them are successes, adding an element of realism and even surprise to the tales. After the first twenty or so stories, Conan Doyle decided to kill of his character ...
