Advantages: cheap computers with good friendly advice Disadvantages: none
The Computer World is a computer shopper’s paradise. The quantity of computers, hardware, software, accessories, computer furniture and consumables is unbelievable.
I will start with the most obvious thing- the computers. They have got computers starting from cheap, basic level computers suitable for students, first time buyers or those people that are on a low budget. These are easy to use and very cheap- at the moment this is the ‘e- machines’ ... ...a monitor. At the other end of the spectrum, there is the elite computers- these are the crème de la crème. It is like a seven course meal from a 5* Paris restaurant compared to a bacon butty from the rat infested café round the corner. These computers have to be the most powerful available, today you could get one which is over 3Ghz with over 1024 DDR Ram! As you could guess these are more expensive than the others I mentioned (talking at least ...

Advantages: Customer Service reps did try to be helpful... Disadvantages: Everything else. Cheap, rubbish computers and appalling extra charges.
The title of this rant is a great one-liner a friend came out with, a year or so ago, when I had the worst laptop in the world from the worst computer company in the world. The Computer World. I keep seeing this name around the Interweb next to the world "liquidation" and the like, and my local branch in Southampton closed down a while ago. So let's hope that's the end of it. But if there's still one near you, don't be tempted by those cheap dealios ... ...and the shiny sparkly silver laptops. Here's why.
I was tempted, and I ended up losing over £1,000. The funny thing is, we had a computer from Tiny back in 1998, and it gave us nothing but hassle back then. My dad swore he'd never buy anything from them ever again.
So why on earth did I?! Well, I wanted to have a go at making music, and I'd been looking online at all these expensive Sony ones. I was dying to get started, and this particular laptop ...

Advantages: Good quality, prices & customer service Disadvantages: Can't think of many
...and shops in Preston. The firt place we went to was The Computer World (formerley Time). It is quite a small store, but there are plenty of computers on shelf to view and test out, there is also alot of other hardware and software on the shelves which are reasonably priced. However there were not too many laptops on offer, the shelves were mostly dominated by Desktop Computers, but as they are the most popular, that can hardly be a disadvantage 9and ... ...we looked around some of the laptops for a couple of minutes when a sales assistant came over and assisted us. We went through exactly what specification we wanted, and then he talked us through the different advantages and disadvantages of each machine which i found extremely useful. He then showed us their best deal (a 2000+ AMD Athlon, 480Mb RAM, 40Gb Hardrive, DVD+ CD-Rewriter Combo drive + more) and explained to us that we would not find a better ...

Advantages: None whatsoever. Disadvantages: The worst customer service I have ever experienced, Once you've paid they don't want to speak to you ever again, Excuses and more excuses...
...around a few places for the best price and system specification, I finally found The Computer Shop tucked away in one of the more unpopular areas of the city centre. As soon as I went in I was impressed by the prices and the specs, plus the salesman seemed all too eager to help (I should have realised this was a bad omen, guess I was blinded by the prices and shiny technical things glistening in the shop lights - something like a nerd magpie.)
Anyway, ... ...went to sit down with the salesman for a gentlemanly exchange of cash and details. Oh, wait. Suddenly it's not £499 - it's about £540 because I have to pay for delivery TO THE STORE. How I wish i'd have walked out at that point.
OK, I thought, fair enough. They have to make their profit somewhere right? So I handed over my money (i'm starting to feel sick right now as I type this.) The agreement was that the laptop would arrive in a maximum of 10 ...
