Advantages Advantages An increase in graphics, and now with spoken voices

Disadvantages Disadvantages Gameplay just not long enough

"Lost at sea for days now and I have no crew or navigational instruments. No provisions except a half eaten corndog, and unless I find water soon, I'm surely done for. Only the hope of finding my love, Elaine, keeps me going. And my quest for the "fabulous" treasure called Big Whoop has left me in this sorry state. I thought it would bring me fame and glory. Instead, it delivered me into the clutches of my enemy, the Zombie Pirate LeChuck. I'd thwarted his evil plot to marry Elaine and he was after revenge..." You are Guybrush Threepwood, mighty pirate. Finding yourself stranding in a bumper ... more

Advantages Advantages Entertaining, fun and not too short

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Some tricky parts

Challenging, exciting and fun, or plain dull and boring, you never know until you try and that’s what I’ve just done having now finished the game. So what in store for the potential ‘The Curse Of Monkey Island’ game player, well read on and you’ll find out... ~~Introduction~~ This is the third instalment in the ‘Monkey Island’ game series, but the first I’ve played. As you might know I have been addicted to ‘Tomb Raider’ for the last few years, having played all but one so far. After playing three Tomb Raider games virtually back to back, it was time for a break. But the question remained ... more

Advantages Advantages Brilliant graphics. Smooth gameplay.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None.

First Impressions - The reason I went out and bought this game was simply on the strength of the first two installments which I had for my Amiga. They were both absolutely brilliant and gave me lots and lots of hours of pleasure. To say that this game was better was a massive understatement. As you would imagine, the graphics are improved as well as the gameplay. The level of humour has also been vastly improved. The Introduction - The Curse of Monkey Island is the third installment in one of the greatest adventure series ever to grace a PC. Once again, our hapless hero, Guybrush Threepwood ... more

Avast ye scurvy dogs! Swap the decks, shiver me timbers, walk the plank and bone the cabin boy because after a five year gap Guybrush Threepwood pirate wannabee extraordinaire is back for another swashbuckling adventure. Prepare to laugh your butt off. It had been 5 long years before The Monkey Island series gained its 3rd instalment, Lucas Arts going very quiet after the bizarre ending of the second in the series. Of course, nothing short of bizarre would have been expected of anything in these games, but the closing sequences of part 2 were just about as bizarre as anyone could have imagined ... more

Advantages Advantages Funny, I got my copy for free!, surprisingly difficult

Disadvantages Disadvantages In comparison to todays standards the graphics, playability, sound quality, etc, etc are poor.

N.B. The ratings i've given this game, e.g. graphics, originality, etc. above are in relation to the games that were available when Monkey Island first hit the shops. So, although I've rated it as 'graphics = ok' by todays standard they really are poor. I know this game is really, really old. And all of you that are into your modern PS2 games with excellent graphics may not understand fully what I'm about to say.... this has to be one of my all-time favourite games. Seriously though! Its surprising just how addictive this game is! Plus one possible reason why I liked this game so much was ... more

Advantages Advantages Great cartoon-like graphics, good sound, GREAT FUN!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None...

Monkey Island 3 (“The Curse of Monkey Island”) has been around for a while now but you might be able to get hold of it in a compilation called "The Monkey Island Bounty Pack" which contains the first 3 Monkey Island games. If you haven't seen them before and you like adventure games don't have any hesitation at all over buying this if you see it! This third instalment features rather better graphics and sound than the first 2. (I searched the documentation for ages but strangely there was no mention of minimum system requirements - all I can say for sure if that it runs 100% okay on a 433MHz ... more

Advantages Advantages good cartoony graphics, music, sfx

Disadvantages Disadvantages no 3d accelaration ;-)

This is the best graphical adventure game that I have played. It is now at a budget price, along with its predecessors - The Secret of Monkey Island and Lechuck's Revenge. The main character is a guy called Guybrush Threepwood who manages to turn his girlfriend into a golden statue by unleashing a horrible voodoo curse. People of all ages will like this game with its intuitive interface, high-resolution graphics and good-natured humour. There is also a harder "Mega Monkey" version for people wanting a challenge. It is compatible with almost every usable PC. ... more

    Advantages Advantages Well animated graphics.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Puzzle solutions can be a bit obscure

This is the third game in the Monkey Island series and goes along much the same lines as the other two. The plot is a continuation from the previous games, but makes perfect sense on its own. In the Curse of Monkey Island Guybrush Threepwood is the unlikely hero who is trying to save fiancee from the evil LeChuck, who was thought to be dead at the end of the last game, but no, like any good villain he has more lives than your average cat. LeChuck has kidnapped Elaine and turned her into a statue. Guybrush has to get back to Monkey Island to defeat LeChuck and free Elaine. The graphics are very ... more

Advantages Advantages Good Music, Voices, Graphics, and Very Funny

    Disadvantages Disadvantages The Ending

This game must have been tough to make. The Secret of Monkey Island was a success. Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge took that winning formula and improved it. Could LucasArts ever produce something worthy of its prequels? Well they did. And they did it well. At the start, we find Guybrush Threepwood lost at sea aboard a Dodgem. Yes, a bumper car. He is reminiscing about his girlfriend, the love of his life, Elaine Marley, when he floats into a battle between his aforementioned girlfriend and his nemesis, the Zombie Pirate LeChuck. LeChuck wants Elaine to marry him. Guybrush is captured, but ... more
