Fact or Fiction.

Advantages: Intriguing, interesting and a great thriller.
Disadvantages: You spend hours reading it and hours missing your favorite program.

'The Day of The Jackal' was written by Frederick Forsyth and is the second novel of his that I have read, the first being the 'The Fourth Protocol'. The thing that I wondered at the end of both novels is, how can this be fiction. In 1962 France gave Algeria Independence, there were people in Algeria who wanted it to still be part of the French empire these being French Nationals, French Army Personnel and members of the French Foreign Legion and ...
...that De Gaulle had made the wrong choice as their fellow men had died in Algeria, people died and for what, nothing. 'The Day of The Jackal' is about 3 senior members of the OAS who decide to take matters into their own hands as their organisation is riddled with defectors and spys, they decide to assassinate De Gaulle. But every time I hope the end will change...

Advantages: Something special among the American thriller
Disadvantages: You'll never put it down up to the last page!

'The Day of the Jackal' is one the oldest books written from Frederick Frosyth and, in my opinion its best one. In his next books I vainly tried to find the same pathos, the same incredible, but also believable plot, the same ability in taking the reader to discover his mainly character. The history takes place in France at the beginning of the '60ies, when Algeria became indipendent. The book is the history of one of the best killer available 'on ...
...was born in imitation of the real killer 'Carlos'). Page by page the writer will 'live' the preparation of an attempt: from the falsification of papers, to the construction of a special weapon, up to the research of the right place where the killer will settle down during the attempt itself. During the reading we will discover how to change our appearance: a bit on cotton in the mouth to alter facial features, a dowel pledged in a shoe to became ...

A spine chilling experience

Advantages: Excellent detective work
Disadvantages: Sorry, I cannot imagine.

...minute detail would have been the result of careful research, which is evident in all the books written by the author. I read the book for the first time just after seeing the film based on the book, but the virtual action created in my mind by the book was more powerful then the movie. In fact I could not keep the book down and was moving violantly in my seat, especially at the moment our hero discovered the true identity of the Jackal, ie. Charles ...
