Advantages Advantages A smooth mature taste. Represents good value for your money at the upper end of the market. Great advertising campaign.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Intoxicatingly good. Too much of this will land in trouble with the authorities on your way home.

Famous Grouse Whisky -------------------- After writing an opinion about the Harry Potter books, I felt the need to get back to writing about a more “masculine” product. Trying to think of something worthy, drove me to drink, and that is where I found my inspiration. We all know the Famous Grouse brand very well. That is ensured by their very witty ad campaign starring the little Red Grouse. Not much is said usually, but the Grouse is always doing something very interesting, which reflects on the drink. We therefore assume that only interesting people drink Famous Grouse, and being ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Not the best

Famous Grouse Blended Scotch, like so many others, has its origins back in the 19 th century when one Matthew Gloag established himself as a grocer and wine merchant in the fair city of Perth. Matthew bought malt whisky’s from distilleries in various parts of Bonnie Scotland and soon gained a very high reputation for the quality of his cellars,. When Queen Victoria visited Perth in 1842,Matthew Gloag was invited to supply the wines for the royal banquet. In 1860 his son William Gloag took over the business and started to add blended whisky’s to the range and later in 1896 ... more

Advantages Advantages Oaky, smooth taste, very nice with lemonade or Coca-Cola or even just on the rocks.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very pricey and increasing quite significantly all the time now.

Famous Grouse whisky is the whisky of choice in our household and although it's a little more expensive than some of the cheaper brands we don't mind paying a premium price as this truly is a fantastic product. Famous Grouse was established in Perth, Australia in 1800 and is made by blenders Matthew Gloag & Son Ltd. The whisky is matured in seasoned oak casks and is a marriage of fine rare Scotch whiskies. It takes it's name from the Scottish national game bird, a Red Grouse, and has a very distinct oaky, yet smooth taste which glides down your throat ever so smooth and gentle whilst having a ... more

Famous grouse Whisky Being a bit of a whisky drinker, I would always have to say that the whisky from Famous Grouse is by far the best whisky to buy. it may be a little more expensive than other branded whisky drinks such as Bells but in my opinion, that little bit of extra price is well worth it when it comes to the taste and the quality. The Famous Grouse Whisky comes in at a little over £20 for a litre bottle and doesn't seem to be on offer that much (so grab it on offer when you see it is my advice!) if comparing it to Bells which is on offer a fair bit. Famous Grouse is a standard 40% ... more

Advantages Advantages Doesn't require anything added to it except water.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Taxed by the British Government at an enormous level.

It may seem to be a fairly obvious matter if you are asked how to drink 'The Famous Grouse' Scotch Whisky. Pour it into a glass and drink it, may be one response. Another could be...well, add something long to it, like a Coke or lemonade. Then drink it. Let me be quite plain here. Scotch Whisky is a 'stand alone' drink. You may wonder what that means. Well, put very simply, it means that you really shouldn't drink it with anything else, except water. Now, some of you will think that that sounds rather purist. Not a bit of it. The reason why you shouldn't add anything to it is simple. It ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent option for someone to give as a pressie!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be a tad bit rough on the pallet

My father and I have never really agreed on much, but being from a Glaswegian hertige he was very happy when he found I had a taste for whisky. It is in fact my favorite tipple, and love the chance to try a new single malt, but never turn down the chance to try a good blend. So when I received a pressie of a 1992 Famous Grouse for christmas, I must say I was pleased as it is not something I would usually buy myself. It has a distinct taste, that warms you through in quite an exact manner. My knowledge on such whiskys is based, not on an extensive knowledge and dedication to the brand, but upon ... more

Advantages Advantages The closest you can get to a smooth malt at cheap supermarket prices

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can't think of any at the price

In my opinion at the simplest level there are two kinds of whisky, smooth enjoyable malt and cheap blended stuff you buy someone for Christmas - such as Bells (aghhh) that tastes like paint thinners or something that sounds Scottish to overseas visitors in a duty free shop like 'Loch Ness' . I am a non-partisan English drinker who has tried all the popular brands, but I have to say that Grouse is something else - the only (relatively) cheap whisky that is worth drinking. Highly recomended as an everyday drink to those who think it necessary to spend £40 or £50 a bottle for an enjoyable whisky ... more

Advantages Advantages A lot smoother than most

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None really

As a whisky drinker i only drink the stuff neat, and to be honest that is the only way to have it. If your one for mixing it in Lemonade and the likes, i dont thing it matters too much which brand of whisky one uses. Grouse was one of the first whiskys i tried as a kid as it always seemed to be around at christmas time, and still reminds me of crimbo to this day. Grouse is a little smoother than most whiskys and not too harsh on the throat. Great taste and aroma and if you are one for mixing, then this is a versatile whisky. Its difficult to describe the taste of Whiskey as many of the ... more
