Advantages: Fun, quirky gifts at reasonable prices. Disadvantages: Terrible layouts, impossible to move!
...luck :-)
I went to the Gadget Shop in Birmingham today to do some Christmas shopping. There is a gadget shop in most towns/cities now. They all look the same and sell the same things. A glass front with the name in blue lights. The tills are in the middle of the shop, surrounded by a glass topped counter containing things like watches and lighters.
The staff all stand in the middle of the store and the remainder of the goods are displayed in glass ... ...are on display openly in the corners. If you want to look at any of the things you have to ask a member of staff to open the cabinets. This has put me off in the past-I understand that some of the goods are fragile, but I like to be able to touch things before making a decision as to whether I will buy them or not.
The layout is my biggest problem with the store. Today as expected just before Christmas, it was very busy, but on many other occasions ...

...you a question: When was the last time you find it difficult to buy someone a pressie for their birthday or christmas? Pretty recently right? Wouldn't you love to find a shop that is guaranteed to sell items that your loved ones would love to receive? Then look no further and read on....

You know the lamps which seem to have electricity running through the surface which you just have to touch and fondle with your hand and shout to your partner "hey look, the electricity is on my hand!!!!!", hmmmm..... They also have lava lamps which look sooooo 70's and retro and brighten up any dull corner in your house. The gadget shop is a shop full of different gadgets. It is a small shop, but has plenty of different items to choose from.
people of all ages go here, but you do seem to find more adults than children in here. It's a shop fot eh big kids really. Both me and my husband love going in this shop, and we're both big kids at heart.
Some of the things the gadget shop sells are:-
Singing fish (billy bass)
Lava lamps
Disco ball
Shot glasses
cuddly ... ...As well as going to the shop, you can also go on line at www.gadgetshop.com I've not actually tried this site out yet though as i just go the shop.
You can spend hours looking at all the gadgets in this shop.
The shop is usually very busy when i have been in there, and as it's a small shop, there isn't much space to move around really. The queue's can be quite long too, but you do not wait too long as they usually have more than one person serving ...

...there is one shop in the city centre that is an absolute must when I am in town shopping with the children it's the gadget shop. Please note that when I say children I do include the 40 year old slightly balding man that likes to follow me around making tutting noises whenever I open my purse.
The Gadget shop in Nottingham is actually rather small but the space is used extremely well. Most of the stock is stored in large glass cabinets that span ... ...from sticky fingers and hiding the more risqué examples from small, inquisitive eyes. The great thing about this practical use of space is that it leaves the centre of the shop clear for all sorts of toys, games and gadgets to be displayed where they can be touched, played with and generally enjoyed. The shop is brightly lit and everything is very nicely displayed and more importantly, clearly priced.
This particular shop sends out a very clear ...

...geek, I couldn't resist visiting the gadget shop's website after reading a review by another ciao member.
The name "gadget shop" conjured up all kinds of imagery in my mind of high tech gadgets, and things with lots of buttons and lights... I was intrigued...
The webpage is quite stylish in a purple and white colourscheme, but not as techie and futuristic as the name could suggest.
On the left of the screen there are general navigation links to ... ...and help for example.
The home page opens and some recent bargains are listed, as is a banner indicating that they are currently in the middle of a mid season sale (hoora!)
They stock a huge range of items, quite a few that you aren't likely to find elsewhere. Not all of their stock are techie gadgets, but they do boast a good variety that have novelty value. Delivery is free in the uk, and as stated on their homepage returns are also free if not ...

Advantages: excellent staff, layout and choice Disadvantages: sometimes busy
The Gadget Shop is a godsend for buying those impossible presents for men/boys. In my family, there is my dad, and two brothers, and my mum, I find it incredibly hard to find presents for both of my brothers, and my dad. The Gadget shop is very helpful! There is a range of gifts, from just a few pounds to hundreds. I like the layout of the shops, so that products can be tested and played with. There has obviously been a lot of money pumped into these ... ...supplies many different gadgets to the other stores. The prices are reasonable, and quality very good. The staff are always eager to show you how something works, and what it can do, and will open display cabinets for you with no fuss. I like the way this shop operates, and it makes buying presents a lot easier. The range of products suits most ages and interests, with table football games for young boys, and then Jet Skis, for those older, daring ...

The Gadget Shop - the ideal place to buy gifts for younger brothers and sisters, uncles who think they are still in their youth, and family friends you don't have that much of a clue about. In my mind, I make my way very happy to the doors of The Gadget Shop, and make the perfect purchases for those not-so-easy-to-buy-for relatives. But thats only in my mind. The reality of The Gadget Shop is somewhat more grim.
I only ever build up enough courage ... ...I don't object to the products that they sell, and the prices are reasonable, but I find that every time I try to enter the store, I come close to losing my life as I attempt to circumnavigate the store. In the store closest to where I live, and the one I refer to in particular, there is adequate space to display all products neccessary, whilst having a reasonably sized till area, for upwards of 5 staff to help serve. So it is a mystery why the person ...

Advantages: good quality Disadvantages: crammed!!!
The Gadget Shop sells all different kinds of things, from clocks to inflatable furniture. I visit The Gadget Shop in Cribbs Causeway, Bristol. They have a small shop in The Mall which is very popular so obvouisly it is very crammed. I go when I have the chance and when it isn't packed with people. You don't really get to look at the items properly because they are all behind glass cabinates so you can't really examine the item that you are interested ... ...and heads! Some things like the inflatable furniture that can't be put behind glass for obvouis reason's are on the floor but then someone sitting in it or people are pushing past you when you are looking.
The shop is very modern and inside it, there are flying aeroplanes so watch your head if you are tall, they seem to fly around at a fast speed and could cause an accident. There are things like walking animals walking across the floor so don't ...

Advantages: Cool products, ground breaking range, Well lit. Disadvantages: Pricey at times, cramped stores, queues can be long.
The Gadget Shop. The name says it all really. It's a shop. It stocks gadgets.
It was always one of those shops I dragged my parents into when we went shopping in Newcastle or the Metrocentre. I had an almost magnetic reaction to that place, not a surprise when you consider how many of the gadgets are magnet powered!
The Gadget Shop has so many gadgets it's hard to know where to start describing the inventory! Pretty much anything that's weird or ... ...why it is one of the only places still selling those bloody dancing flowers and cans, they bought up the world's supply in the early 90s!)
The shops always seem to be tiny little boxes. They can barely fit in the display cases and tills, so how they get their customers in there as well, well it will always be a mystery to me! However, fit them in they do, and in their droves. At any one point, there will be at least 50 people plus staff in the shop ...

So, I thought, I'll just take a wander to my local Gadget Shop in the St. Enoch Centre in Glasgow, and see what they had to offer.
After being shoved and pushed around the shop for about half an hour (ok, ok, I had to do some pushing and shoving too, so I could have a better look in the display cases!), ... ...like the look of that'!
There was this 'thing' on display. It had a big black 'knob' (oo-err) and loads of copper wires coming out of it. As my hand grasped the 'knob' - hard - I pressed the yellow button on it and, OH MY GOD!!!, the vibrations being sent through my fingers sent me into RAPTURES......of giggles, I hasten to add.

Advantages: Pressies for all the family Disadvantages: Bit pricey
The Gadget shop was definately my favourite shop throughout the 90's and is still as good as whenit first opened.
I normally visit the one in Queens Arcade in Cardiff, but where ever you go through out the country you are guarenteed to find one. At the minute i'm intrigued by the coloured contact lenses they are selling and am determined to eventually get some for myself. They also sell a range of products from lucky dice, to singing robots, to keyrings, to bottle openers, to lights, and back again!
The prices vary a lot but the sales that are quite frequent make you able to get bargains.
It's a very funky shop.GO THERE! ...

The Gadget shop really is a strange place where all the worlds useless inventions find themselves on the shelves. The one i`ve visited is in Covent Garden and is always packed everytime i go in.
OK so most of the stuff is a little out of your usual students price range but to be honest its really fun Mini Snooker tables to girl/boyfriend remote controls and all the funky lava and bubble fish lamps a guy could ask for. An excellent place to buy friends ... ...something new to wonder "What the heck is that".
Not everything is expensive, items range from £1- around £500 and theres always something new to tickle the funnybone of all who visit, all my mates have agreed!
There is only one small criticism, 80% of the items are behind glass or too high to see properly. To be fair though, some of the items can be rather fragile and with the huge numbers of people safety is greatly increased by this measure. ...

It’s every boys dream shop, the stuff they sell would have had me pestering my Mum constantly when I was about 10. Now of course I have to be more realistic and buy my own novelty rubbish. The first disappointment was in the shop. The small ergonomic frosted day-glow unit looked very space aged and funky in it’s glass case with the halogen lights glinting off it’s smooth edges.
