When I have looked on here at the reviews of this book they are very positive and everyone I know who has read works from this other before have rated her very highly. I, however, have found myself disappointed in this book. Cecelia Ahern is a well known author, her most famous books are PS I love you and Where Rainbows End. So well known that PS I LOve You has been made into a huge film. A part of me wonders if Cecelia is now rushing her writing whilst she's having her moment of fame. I have read her previous works and found that this latest book isn't a patch on them and whilst reading it I ... more

As you can probably tell by the amount of book reviews that I post, I am an avid reader, and I do like to try a wide range of books and authors. I tend to stick to the chick-lit genre, although I do stray occasionally, but there is plenty of books in my preferred genre to keep me busy! I'm terrible in that if I don't like a book, I don't usually go back to that author. One such book was PS, I Love You by Cecelia Ahern - I hated it. But when I saw her new Christmassy looking book in the library, I thought it was worth one last try with her material. Lou lives in Dublin, is happily married to ... more

Advantages Advantages Unexpected ending, different plot

Disadvantages Disadvantages The first half didnt captivate me

A few months ago I went a little bit mad on The Works website. I used to often visit their stores and take advantage of the 3 for £5 deal however I have not been able to visit them much recently so when I had some spare cash and I wanted some new books to read I decided to pay a visit to their website. Instead of buying 3 books I think I ended up with 15 but never mind I will work my way through! One of the books I chose was The Gift by Cecelia Ahern. I first encountered this author a few years ago now when I read her book The Book of Tomorrow and absolutely fell in love with it and was hooked ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Rather confused me to start with, but I think it was because I was ill rather than this book

The Gift is something I picked up prior to Christmas last year in the library. It appealed as it was a bit Christmas-sy so I thought it might be a good read for the time of year, and also I have heard of Cecelia Ahern's other novel, P.s. I love you. It has also been made into a film. So I figured I would probably enjoy it. I made the mistake of trying to read it while full of a horrible fluey virus over christmas, so I have to say initially it made very little impression on my though I think that is because of me rather than any fault with the novel. The story has 2 plots. There is a 14 year ... more

Advantages Advantages a different kind of book but great

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

As usual I bought this book after reading the back of it and deciding that I would really like it. I have read a few Cecelia Ahern books but I mostly got them free with magazines. Normally her kind of books although can be readable they aren't exactly the kind of book I go for, but they still fit firmly into the chick lit category. This book is set around Christmas time. The main character in the book is a man called Lou. Lou lives in Dublin and is married to a woman called Ruth and has 2 children. Lou has a well paid job and you get the impression that Lou thinks he is great due to his wealth ... more

The Gift by Cecelia AHurn……. The Gift is the latest novel from Cecelia Ahurn and I do believe one of her best. I have read all of Ahurns works to date but felt that P.S I Love You, her first novel, was always the best. However since reading this latest edition to her collection have quickly changed my mind. The book is on sale now for around the £7 region in Woolworths or Tesco and it looks just like a little Christmas present as it comes with a detachable red ribbon and the front and back covers of the book are printed just like silver Christmas wrapping paper. Just looking at the book makes ... more

    Advantages Advantages Keeps you hooked

    Disadvantages Disadvantages The ending

I have just finished reading this book (a Christmas gift!) and I must say I was a little bit disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I love Cecelia Ahern and have read most of her books, and I was captivated by this story, but the end just left me feeling a little bit deflated. It starts off with a young lad throwing a frozen turkey through someone's window on Christmas morning (that window belongs to his Dad and his 'new family' but this really doesn't have anything to do with the main bulk of the book). The actual story begins while the 'turkey boy' is at the police station, and the sergeant feels ... more

    Advantages Advantages Very Well Written.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Start is a bit confusing.

This is the third novel of Cecelia Ahern's that I have read and, while PS I Love You was probably my favourite, this is still a very good book. This book is about Lou Suffern, a workaholic who seems to put his work, meetings and colleagues before anything else. His family seem to be way down at the bottom of his priorities. On his way into work one day, he stops to speak to Gabe, a homeless man and he becomes intrigued as Gabe seems to know more about what is happening in his own office than he does. He thinks it would be useful to have Gabe around, so finds him a job within his company ... more

Advantages Advantages Good charaters, good story

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Ending slightly dissapointing

Info: The book has a sort of Scrooge - ghost of christmas present feel to it. It sets out to teach us a lesson but is heart warming too. The story begins with our main character (Lou) befriending a homeless man (Gabe) whom he meets sitting outside of his fancy office. Lou taking pity, offers Gabe a position in his firm and from then Gabe firmly becomes a part of Lou's life...wheher Lou likes it or not. The rest of the book takes us through Lou's next few weeks and months with various twists and turns along the way. Opinion: I've read a few of the authors books before and mostly liked them ... more
