Advantages Advantages A wonderfully funny and well written book

THE GIRAFFE AND THE PELLY AND ME ROALD DAHL My son is thirteen now and I don't think that he would really appreciate me sitting on the end of his bed reading him a story. But from being a very tiny child I always read to him, as he got a little older Roald Dahl were always the stories that he loved me to read, and one of his - and my - favourites was always "The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me". What makes this such a wonderful book to read to children is the fact that the book is interspersed with simple verse, it is easy to read this verse and kids love it. Jack was always ready to jump in to ... more

    Advantages Advantages A Joyous read

Disadvantages Disadvantages None, it`s a Roald Dahl

“We will polish your glass Til it’s shining like brass And it sparkles like sun on the sea! We are quick and polite, We will come day or night, The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me!” Just around the corner from where Billy lives is an amazingly high and thin building. The bottom floor used to be a “Grubber” or sweet shop, but now the building is empty and dilapidated with a big “For Sail” sign in the window. It stayed like this for many a while until one day the sign was changed to “Soled” and a flurry of activity could be heard from within. Floorboards and fixtures and fitting came sailing out of ... more

Advantages Advantages Fantastic, lively read, great illustrations

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

When I was a young child I used to love reading, I always had my head stuck in a book. And usually that book would have been something that was written by Roald Dahl. This was when I was about seven or eight. I used to love his books, I couldn't get enough of them. I loved the light hearted, jolly and lively way in which they are written. And I loved the exciting pictures done by illustrator Quentin Blake. Although I used to borrow the books I read from my local library, my younger sister now owns a boxset of Roald Dahl's books. I was looking at it the other day and it really jogged my memory ... more

    Advantages Advantages A wonderful read

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

Last night I wanted a light read; therefore I looked through my huge collection of books and found my complete new set of Roald Dahl books. I selected the thinnest at approximately 71 pages long and went off to bed. I was very tired but I found the book so amusing I could not put it down. Illustrated wonderfully by Quentin Blake just the glorious drawings kept me awake. The story begins with the dreams of little Billy, looking at this wonderful tall building called a Grubber. - known to Billy as a sweetshop, well that is what his mother had told him. Then odd things begin to happen. The shop ... more

    Advantages Advantages Enchanting story

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None!

This is a wonderful book by children's author Roald Dahl. He capures hearts minds and imaginations with his stories, and this tale is no exception. It focuses on 'me' who is a young boy, who dreams of owning a sweet shop. We never learn the name of the main character, who also acts as a narrator, which lends the book a magical air - any child reading it can imagin themselves in the position of 'me' and make the story their own. We meet the Giraffe and the Pelly, and the monkey who is also in the story as they offer a window cleaning service. the giraffe is the ladder, the pelican's beak the ... more
