Advantages: One Hell of a good read.
Disadvantages: Came in parts before released as a single book.

I first read The Green Mile a few years ago, when the partwork came out, and was eager to go to the shop for the next part. It starts off with an elderly gentleman who seems to be writing his memoirs, and turns into the most gripping will they/wont they story I have read for a long time. I have read the most gripping story that Stephen King has ever written this was The Green Mile. When i first bought this book just form reading the back cover it was the book that was never going to be put down. I have just finished reading the Green Mile by Stephen King, having never read one of his books before. It is about an elderly man writing about his experiences whilst working on death row, and in particular with one convicted murderer named John Coffey. Although I can appreciate that King is an excellent author, and that he does write chilling novels as a rule, I was still surprised at just how depressing the book was. ...King’s exquisite ability to thrust the reader into the dark realms of each character is, alone, an excellent reason to read this book. The story is told by way of the first warden, who is an amicable man and one who try’s not to judge people (difficult considering the line of work he is in). ...his best with books like the green mile, a cross between a thriller\horrow which he writes in such a way that youll be turning page by page in anticipation to whats going to happen next. I finished this book in 3 days which is quite quick considering the size of the thing. This is the most amazing scintillating and outstanding book I have ever had the pleasure to read. I was gripped by it and it reads like fact more than fiction. ...Stephen Kings definative literary moments. The Green Mile has to be by far the best book he has ever written. I was priveleged to buy this book the first time around when it was issued in 6 monthly parts and I can assure it is one of the most riveting reads. ...My wife told me of the torture of having to wait for the next installment. As a result of the way it was written and released every chapter, or mini-book has a real cliffhanger of an ending. This was the first Stephen King novel that I read, but you can safely say that I am now hooked on his material. The story is basically about a death row on Cold Mountain, where Paul Edgecombe is incharge of the green mile, a place where the inmates are destined for good 'ole Sparky. ...very real human characters. The emotions and events in this book made me laugh and cry several times. The main character is an elderly gentleman telling the new love of his life a secret from his past. He goes back to the time in his life when his son is no longer living at home, and he and his wife are still very much in love and happy together.
