The Legend of the Big Bad Mouse Lives On. Review with images

AdvantagesEducational, Fun and Interesting.

DisadvantagesNone

"==Introduction:-== Released in 2004 The Gruffalo’s Child is the follow up title to the 1988 classic The Gruffalo written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. I was fortunate enough to pick this title up as part of a 2 for £7 deal at my local supermarket along with a book published by the same duo, with the purchase of this book being sealed by the fact that our daughter absolutely loved the original 1988 Gruffalo story which has ..." First the Gruffalo now his child...

AdvantagesGreat read

DisadvantagesNone

"...Gruffalo"? Try this book for the same easy reading, rhyming style. After reading "The Gruffalo", of course, we HAD to buy this, and for a while, it was compulsory bed time reading. What did |I find? A totally endearing book, in which the gruffalo's child continues the relationship with the mouse. THE STORY As with most (if not all) Julia Donaldson books, this is all rhyming, and so is very easy for young children to follow and remember, so increasing ..." Read review

Advantageswonderful text and illustrations

Disadvantagesnone

"...son and I both love The Gruffalo so the next natural step was to purchase The Gruffalo’s child. I believe I bought it from the book people when I was working in a school and they used to visit regularly however you can purchase it from Asda at the moment for £4.00 or two books for £7.00. You will also be able to buy it from good book stores. The Gruffalo’s child is written by Julia Donaldson and is illustrated by Axel Scheffler. They seem to have ..." Read review

Don't go into the woods at night...

Advantagesfamiliar,funny verse and great characters

DisadvantagesNo!

"...to pick up three for the price of two at the Early Learning Centre. Among the three was The Gruffalo's Child, the work of Children's literature queen, Julia Donaldson. ***Who is Julia Donaldson?*** A mother of three, Julia began her career as a singer/songwriter, most prominently for children's television. In 1993 she had one of these songs, A squash and a Squeeze made into a book which was illustrated by her partner in crime, illustrator Axel ..." Read review

Is there really a big bad mouse?

AdvantagesGood story, simple, great illustartions, funny ending

DisadvantagesNone

"...was actually a sequel to The Gruffalo but that didn't matter one bit when we came to read it as it is a story on it's own. The book is written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, it was first published in 2004 by Macmillan Books although the edition we have been reading is from 2005. The book is approximately A4 in size which I find is a good size for childrens books and the one we have been reading is a paperback, the RRP of the ..." Read review

Who's afraid of the Big Bad Mouse?

Advantages excellent story and illustrations

Disadvantages none!

"The Gruffalo's Child' is another delightful children's picture book by the fantastic team of Julia Donaldsona and Axel Scheffler. Although it can be read as a stand alone story, I think your child will get more enjoyment out of it if they have read 'The Gruffalo' first. If you don't know the story of 'The Gruffalo' it is basically about a small mouse who meets a number of creatures in the forest who all want to eat him! He warns them off by saying ..." Read review

The Gruffalo's had a baby!!

AdvantagesGreat story and illustrations. Fabulous rhyming text. A great sequel to the Gruffalo!

DisadvantagesNone

"I was surprised to see the Gruffalo had managed to produce a child, I always thought of it as being asexual and never quite knew whether it was a male or female but there you go but on reading this book I know it's a 'he' Gruffalo as the child calls him Dad. Glad I got that one sorted out in my head! Anyone who is or was a fan of The Gruffalo picture book will certainly not be disappointed with the sequel. It is best enjoyed if you have read the ..." "Meet The Gruffalos Child for those of you familiar with the The Gruffalo story which features a mouse walking through the woods and scraing the creatures with his tales of The Gruffalo which turn out to be true (which even the mouse didn't know) this book features The Gruffalos child going for his own walk through the wood after being told the tail of 'The Big Bad Mouse' an amusing twist on the previous story. A fantastic follow on from the Gruffalo

AdvantagesFantastic text and illustrations

Disadvantagesnone

"The Gruffalo's Child This is the sequel to the Gruffalo written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. It is 30 pages long and is published by Macmillan at a price of £5.99. As a sequel anyone who has read the Gruffalo will pick this up eagerly awaiting to see what happens next. It is also easy to read for people who have never heard of the Gruffalo but would certainly inspire people to go and read it! This story is set in ..." Read review

Slightly disappointed

Advantages Means I don't have to read the Gruffalo eveeeryy day!

Disadvantages Doesn't flow as nicely as The Gruffalo

"...on Amazon (paperback 15/3/2007) For me The Gruffalo (the previous book in this series) is a great little book. The poetry appeals to all ages and has great humour. You can pick it up and instantly fall into the pattern of the rhyme. The characters just cry out voices so it is easy to read out loud (although I still can't decide if the fox is northern or from essex!) When my wife brought home The Gruffalo's Child I was enthusiastic because I ..." Read review

Even Gruffalo's have children!

Advantagesan entertaining read

Disadvantagesnone

"The gruffalo's child was feeling bored.... is she brave enough to go on a hunt for the big bad mouse? Another classic story by Julia Donaldson, this quirky tale leads on from 'The Gruffalo' where we see the little mouse outsmart the knobbly-kneed, yellow-eyed wood-dweller. Will the mouse be made into a midnight feast for the curious little Gruffalo or will he really be as big and bad as legends tell? Julia Donaldson uses her masterful rhythm and ..." Read review

Gruffalo

Advantagesgreat for children, 60% off, well illustrated

Disadvantagesnothing

"...eagerly awaiting this book - the sequel to the quite brilliant Gruffalo. Basically ' the Gruffalo ' has been our favourite bedtime story for years and our copy is now decidedly dog - earred !! But I must admit that I am a little disappointed with The Gruffalo's Child - it seems to lack the originality and humour of its predecessor ( much the same as in follow - up films ). My god - daughter enjoyed the story very much and just could not wait to turn ..." Read review

The Gruffalo's Child, another great book!

AdvantagesFits in with the original story brilliantly.

DisadvantagesCan't think of any...

"...is a huge fan of the Gruffalo so when I saw a copy of The Gruffalo's Child I knew I had to buy it. It is another great book from Julia Donaldson, the simple rhyming verses brilliant for young children to follow. My son has memorised pretty much all of this story too, he especially loves the drawings in the Gruffalo cave and the Gruffalo's childs stick man toy. This story fits in perfectly with the original Gruffalo book, I only wish there were ..." Read review
