Advantages: an all round engrossing read Disadvantages: took me a couple of chapters to get to grips with
...pretty up to date with the best sellers lists in fiction, (that is if, like me, you spend half your lunch break most weeks gazing at the lovely new books out in the book shops!) it would be hard to miss this author and the massive popularity of her previous series of books for young adults about a normal girl falling in love with a vampire. So successful was this series, it was made into a film with the further books being made soon I assume. As ... ...sci-fi/another world theme about it. The idea of this story is that another world of aliens has taken over the Earths population by entering the minds of humans but leaving their human bodies in tact. These centipede-like aliens believe that humans are corrupt and evil and the spread of disease is out of control, so by controlling their minds they are creating a peaceful land with no need for war, violence, disease or hatred. (they have medicines ...

Advantages: There's too many to write hear, read review! Disadvantages: If you get upset easily, this book is not for you
For the past 5 days I could have written this review, but not only did I not have the time, but I was really afraid of writing it. This was because I have been so comfortable writing my reviews on Point Horror books, and those structures are pretty simple, I'm scared of coming out of that whole structure and re-building it from scratch. But I have to do exactly that based on the fact that I have read all my Point Horror books!
If you had asked me ... ...think of the author: 'Stephenie Meyer'?" I wouldn't be able to reply as back then I had never heard of her, but when November 2008 came around, nearly everyone had heard of her, as one of her books was being released as a film. So I managed to buy the whole Twilight set of books all for only £14.99 from my school library catalogue called Scholastic. Anyhow I ended up with: "Twilight", "New Moon" & "Eclipse" all in paperback, and "Breaking Dawn" in ...

Advantages: Breathtaking page turner, great characters, great writing Disadvantages: The name Wanda is my only gripe!
...her new novel for adults, The Host, was released earlier this month I knew that I had to get it.
Being in France meant that I wasn't able to read it until a couple of weeks after publication, but what better way to spend the nine hour ferry journey home than with what promised to be a great book?
**Synopsis** (from back of book)
Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of their human ... ...has succumbed.
Wanderer, the invading 'soul' who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.
Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate ...

Advantages: An amazing story with strong loveable characters Disadvantages: 617 Pages just isn't enough! I want more!
Stephenie Meyer is the author of the best selling Twilight series which is now more popular in the U.S.A than the Harry potter books are. The Host is not part of the Twilight series, it's a totally separate book but if you liked the Twilight series then you'll love this book. It was released in May 2008 so it's still quite new.
I have read the first three books in the Twilight series; Twilight, new Moon & Eclipse and I have just been out to buy ... ...I saw this book in the local library I snapped it up, it wasn't part of the Twilight series as I had hoped but it was still by Stephenie Meyer so I decided to give it a try.
It's the first book she has written for adults all of her others have been for teenagers. This is also the first book in which she has created a whole new world, a new way of being. In her other books which are about Vampires she keeps the world the way it is but this one is ...

Few people can have missed the Twilight series of books . The first book was made into a major motion picture, with the film 'New Moon' based on the second book in the series, scheduled to hit cinemas this November . There is no denying that Stephenie Meyer has made a big impact on the literary world . She is, to vampires, what J.K Rowling is to Wizards . She made them cool again . Unlike J.K Rowling, she isn't a one trick pony . While Rowling focused ... ...book, aliens have taken over the earth . Well, that isn't anything new, except these aliens have taken over earth with the intention of making everything better ? War, Famine , Disease ? These don't exist, what with the 'Souls' using us as 'Hosts'. They can access our memories and our emotions, but at the same time, they can control our reactions - and they are kinder than humans . . They are particularly interested in controlling Melanies reactions ...

Advantages: I loved every page of the story. Disadvantages: Personally, I could not find any bad points tohe story.
The Host is quite a complex book, as it talks about the human populations in crisis, human beings being taken over by silver, worm-like creatures from a planted years away from ours. Humans go into hiding from the creatures and think that they are all the same, he want to take every human being as the host. But infact they can change and learn to live with humans and eventually love them.
This book by Stephenie Meyer, author of the Twilight Saga, ... ...makes the reader completely hooked on her every sentence. In my opinion, there are a few times where I thought I can't carry on reading this as there are a few scary parts but I loved every page and chapter of this book.
I will definatey read this book again. ...

...got up and bought it the next day after reading "Breaking Dawn". But to be quite frank, i wish i didnt. I just really couldnt get into it, it simply took too long and i wasn't interested in it at all, what a bore. I probably could have gotten into but the half way pint of the book but ive always said, "if you can't read it from the start, don't read it at all." The character in the story who took over the human beings body was a very mysterious character, ...

Advantages: gripping, thrilling, definitely must-read Disadvantages: started out slow
From the get-go I was gripped by the story. The plot was something new to me and I must admit, Stephenie Meyer is fast emerging as one of the best suspense-thriller authors in modern history. The premise of the story was good. Set in the future, it was hard to imagine that during that time, the world was already inhabited by alien life forms and that it was us humans who were struggling to run away from them! Alien "souls" - tiny worm-like things ... ...are still some humans on the loose and one of them was Melanie, who later on was captured and became "the host" of the alien named Wanderer (or Wanda for short). The thing is, unlike other humans who succumbed to the alien invaders, Melanie won't surrender herself completely to Wanda. The human Melanie instead fills the alien Wanda's soul with human emotions, memories and sense, including memories of Melanie's brother Jamie and Jared, the man Melanie ...

Advantages: Gripping, thought provoking. Disadvantages: Takes a long time to get into.
With the world taken over by aliens who use humans for their hosts (as it is named) this story follows the journey of one particular human used as a host, Melanie Stryder. This story takes you through the highs and lows of a world such as this and really makes you consider the human world as it is, its good and bad points. It is well written and in my opinion well worth a read. I found it hard at first to get my teeth into so to speak since the first ...
