I wouldn't read a four ecks by anyone else
Review of The Last Continent - Terry Pratchett by dididave

Advantages: Frenetic pace, great one liners and parodies
Disadvantages: Previous knowledge of Discworld advantageous

...of his best. For the unaware among you Pratchett's Discworld is a strange blend of fantasy, humour and satire. Set on the Discworld; a flat, magical land were anything can happen and often does; this particular novel centres around Rincewind. A failed "Wizzard", he was accidentally transported by his more learned friends to "The Last Continent" or EcksEcksEcksEcks, a land whose location no one is sure off and some say it does not exist. No worries.
Review of The Last Continent - Terry Pratchett by B.Bligh

Advantages: light-hearted, inoffensive fun; twin narratives and twin topics ensure variety and keep the reader engrossed.
Disadvantages: middle-aged lack of satirical bite; VERY LARGE PRINT.

“Against the stars a turtle passes, carrying four elephants on its shell.” And so begins ‘The Last Continent’, the 22nd Discworld novel by bestselling author Terry Pratchett, which takes as its starting-point the satirical target of Australia. Having once been a massive Discworld fan, going back to the series after so long a gap reminded me of the reason why I tired of the books in the first place, and probably the same ... Read review

Not a G'day, mate.
Review of The Last Continent - Terry Pratchett by Spacecat

Advantages: Familiar handling, familiar characters.
Disadvantages: Confusing sub-plot, anti-climaxic end.

The Aussies are a very interesting bunch. They must be the only people on the planet who pride themselves on their peculiarities, and you’d be hard pressed to find a more captivating nation. So, it was only a matter of time before Mr. Pratchett sank his teeth into this very workable subject. If you know Terry’s writing, you will know that he has an almost uncanny, and very clever way of mirroring our society in that of the Discworld’s, ... Read review

Rincewind on the Run....Again
Review of The Last Continent - Terry Pratchett by Azurel

Advantages: Funny and readable
Disadvantages: The constant Australia puns wear quite thin

This is the 22nd book in the discworld series and the first book in the series that I read. At first I found the split plot quite difficult to read because the story jumped about so much, but after a couple of pages it was much easier to understand and this is the style used in most of the Discworld books. This time the story is based around Rincewind and the wizards of the Unseen University (including their housekeeper who adds a lot of humor ... Read review

The worst book in the discworld series
Review of The Last Continent - Terry Pratchett by buddy_holly

Advantages: The Discworld series is usually very good.
Disadvantages: You are the weakest link.

...is a great surreal idea. The stories entertaining and often very funny. His characters are flawed yet likeable and make for great reading. At his worst he is dull, boring and smug. The Lost Continent sadly is not very good. The Discworld's Last Continent is hot and very dry, and everything is poisonous. It never rains in this country and the water left is running out. This continent needs a hero. Unfortunately it gets the inept wizard Rincewind. ... Read review

Pratchett's Australian Parody
Review of The Last Continent - Terry Pratchett by bobfibber

Advantages: It's Terry Pratchett
Disadvantages: None

The Last Continent is yet another fine literary adventure from the pen of Terry Pratchett. It features the Rincewind (and as always accompanied by the Luggage) and all of the other usual characters from Unseen University. Pratchett takes time to further develop the wizard's characters to excellent effect. There are also brief appearances from death that serve to just frighten the daylights out of poor old Rincewind. The story is set on a continent ... Read review

Review of The Last Continent - Terry Pratchett by soupdragon10

Advantages: Familiar characters in a new setting
Disadvantages: none that I've found

...a surreal twist. To help cure the librarian who is gravely ill and has difficulty remaining an orang utan, the wizards slip through a portal to an island at the beginning of time where a god is inventing evolution (of a sort). Meanwhile Rincewind, the most inept wizard and ept (is that a word) survivor of perilous situation is once more staying one step ahead of trouble. Set down in a landscape reminiscent of a large southern continent with ... Read review

Funnier but emptier.
Review of The Last Continent - Terry Pratchett by Alishas

Advantages: Great for a laugh.
Disadvantages: Lacks usual complexity.

...at his comic best, before the irregularities of his latest books. For those familiar with Australia (although Pratchett insists that the Last Continent is not based on Australia, but does have certain similarities) his observations are spot-on and thoroughly enjoyable to all whether they have prior knowledge or not. Whilst Rincewind is stick in XXXXX his wizard colleagues (and Mrs. Whitlow, the UU housekeeper) are trapped on an island with the god ... Read review

Pratchett goes from strength to strength
Review of The Last Continent - Terry Pratchett by scruffytaff

Advantages: Well-rounded and amusing characters
Disadvantages: somewhat dis-jointed plot

The Last Continent sees us return to the misadventures of Rincewind as he blunders across the continent of XXXX, which has more than just a passing resemblance to Australia. This novel is typically Pratchett - wry, funny, and accurate. Yet another success following after Jingo, those who have followed Rincewinds adventures will not find themselves disappointed by this addition to the series as Rincewind carves a legend across the desert. The sub-plot ... Read review

Terry Pratchett Aussie style!
Review of The Last Continent - Terry Pratchett by mushchr

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

Rincewind the "wizzard" is in trouble again. This time, he's stranded on a continent that bears a remarkable resemblance to somewhere "down under", due to a trifling error in calculation by Unseen University's computer, Hex. And guess what? Yet again, our inept hero seems to be the only one who can save the world and bring The Wet back to the land. Of course, he has no idea how he's supposed to do this, and blunders around falling into waterholes ... Read review

Genius in text, hilarious.
Review of The Last Continent - Terry Pratchett by parkid

Advantages: Enjoyable to read.
Disadvantages: You will laugh uncontrolably.

...of perfection for Terry Pratchett. The same humor seen in all his other books is again seen here, along with that great luggage with legs. With the main focus on this 'wizard' called Rincewind, a lot of fear is created in a reader if they have the imagination really needed to enjoy Terry Pratchett's books. Aparently the wizard is not even capable of spelling 'wizard'. Oh dear is what comes to mind. Its a great novel that makes all to hilarious comments ... Read review
