Advantages: A real page turner! Disadvantages: Why does a book this good have to end?!
When I finished The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay I debated whether or not to write a review on it because I am really not sure whether I can do it justice. It is one of the best books I have ever read - a treasure that you pick up and don't want to put down. But, at the same time, with every page you read you are aware that you are getting closer and closer to the end - which brings with it the disappointment that the days of reading it are numbered. ... ...his early years set against the backdrop of the Second World War. Advantages: Great author, great writing, great read, great sequel Disadvantages: It actually had to end
I decide to buy The Power of One after attending a Leaders seminar when I was in high school. The reason I bought the book was because I had just sat through 2 hours of listening to a 60 year old man telling us about his journey through life. This man happened to be Bryce Courtenay. I must say that listening to Bryce Courtenay speak, just the vibe that he gives off, you can tell that he is so full of life and one of the funniest and kindest people ... ...compared to his personality then The Power of One must be really good. So I went out and bought it.
I had first seen the movie before I knew anything about Bryce Courtenay and thought it was pretty good. Let me just tell you that the movie is not nearly as good as the book. Which I can understand of course because putting 629 pages of pure brilliance into a 90 minute movie would prove to be of somewhat of a task.

...book is as powerful as the title suggests.
With vivid descriptions of landscapes, characters and emotions Courtenay brings the dusty streets of backyard South Africa and the turmoil of a young man striving to find his way in a changing world to your living room.
The book follows Peekay, a young boy who sets his sights on being the heavy weight champion of the world. The book tells his story and that of the people who touch his life along the way.
