Advantages: Its a Sandman novel(if i need to say more...) Disadvantages: Its the middle of the series
I adore the sandman series and having read all of them i still think that Seasons of Mists ranks as one of the best.
The plot revolves around Dreams attempt to release a former lover from Hell. He ends up being gifted the key to the gates of hell and has to dispose of it.

Advantages: funny, well illustrated, clever. Disadvantages: it's a long way into the series so isn't an ideal place to start.
