Advantages Advantages easy to follow storyline

Disadvantages Disadvantages hard to put down

This is Sidney Sheldon’s latest novel, which has been highly acclaimed by the New York Times. It was first published in hardback form in 2000 and now is widely available in paperback too. It is published by HarperCollins at a recommended retail price of £5.99 but in fact I bought mine from Woolworth’s for £3.84. The story follows Dana Evans, a 27 year- old anchorwoman from an American TV network, who has just returned home to Washington after covering the violence in Sarajevo. With her she brings back Kemal, a Serbian orphan whom she plans to adopt, after her marriage to Jeff, a ... more

    Advantages Advantages superb entertainment

Disadvantages Disadvantages You won't get any sleep

If your new to crime and thriller books then Sidney Sheldon is a good place to start. His books aren't full of complicated technical jargon that makes reading slow and heavy going. His books flow nicely and you find yourself reading from cover to cover if time allows you. The Sky is Falling has all the twists and intrigue that you would expect from a crime novel without bogging you down with unneccesary facts and figures. The female main character, Dana Evans is a TV anchorwoman, suffering burnout after months in the field, reporting on war-torn Sarajevo. Now back home along with a 12 year old ... more

Advantages Advantages Very easy to read

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very short and also a bit weak

A TV anchorwoman from Washington, DC is convinced that a series of murders are linked and she travels the world to prove it. However, the closer she comes to discovering the truth, the closer she comes to endangering her own life. ‘The Sky Is Falling’ is an incredibly easy to read. Since there are huge gaps between the paragraphs, the novel is actually a lot shorter than it appears. In addition, the majority of the plotting is done through dialogue and there are very few descriptive, or even long, paragraphs. To me, it did not ring quite true that this TV anchorwoman could travel ... more
