Advantages: A superb read for espionage fans.. Disadvantages: Too short..
...quality. This book contains all the details you would not read in the press during the days of the cold war. It portrays characters, sometimes quite 'seedy', that make up the main ingredients for this book. The story is all about the elimination of a top east german operative and the lengths that British Intelligence will go to, to achieve their aims.
All of the characters are portrayed with sufficient detail, but not too much, to enable the reader ... ...only makes a small appearance. The main character, Alec Leamas, is due to be 'put on the shelf', but he is asked to do one last job....but I won't spoil it for you, just read it yourself !
For all fans of espionage thrillers, this is a 'must read'. I thoroughly recommend this, as well as Call For The Dead, of which this book is the follow up to, but hard to obtain.. ...
