The Sunbird is actually two books in one, cleverly built together in the very end, in a way that you may read as you want to read, meaning that this book will leave a different expression probably on each reader. The first part of the book is from “modern time”, where an archaeology team found what’s left of an ancient civilisation in Africa and comes there to explore it. We read on their findings but also on their personal matters, ... ...of the book is about few of the people who lived in that civilization that was found in the first part of the book, their lives and drama. I loved the second part of the book, much more than the first part, and wouldn’t mind to read more about it. But on the other hand, I wonder if the book would have been as good if I wouldn’t have got to read the first part, they are very importantly linked together. Advantages: ONe of the best by Wilbur Smith Disadvantages: Could spoil the rest of his books , as some might not measure up
...best book and contains all the usual ingredients of war, love, friendship, betrayal and ultimate revenge.
Written in two parts, the book draws parallels between the central characters in an age gap spanning thousands of years. The love story is the central part of the plot (and I'll leave you to decide which love story as there's more than one) and tells the tale of betrayal and revenge although it has to be said there's a bit more to it than that. ... ...keep you gripped from first page to last! the ending provides a nice twist - and thats both endings!! because as i said, the book is in two parts! Historically informative, as usual, wilbur gets the odd fact wrong, but that really doesn't spoil what is a rivetting good read! ...
