Advantages: low price this way Disadvantages: you have to stick with the paper
The Daily Telegraph is a quality newpaper but at a very high price when you compare it to the Times . I think they are missing a lot of prospective readers with this high price tag. However, I have found out that is is possible to buy this newspaper for a lot less than the cover price, over 50% off in fact.
With the utmost respect to the Masked Magician this closely-guarded secret can now be revealed to all. I cannot guarantee that the following ... ...the key to getting on the Telegraph subscriber list. It certainly seems to have worked for me. Firstly, you have to buy a full-price copy or get one somewhere. Search the paper for special offers eg. they have one today (10/03/2001) in their new Gardening section (very good too) where they are offering a free gardening book - you just have to pay for postage. The risky lucky-dip part comes next. You have to fill in your details and send off this ...

...and people who work in the city to look interested in whilst commuting to the office. This is the general impression that I had regarding broadsheet newspapers, and the people that read them.
That was until I started to read them myself. There are several to choose from including the Times, Observer, Independent and my choice the Telegraph. In my opinion it is not the content of these broadsheet newspapers that give them a smaller reading than that ... ...me.
I’m sure that the women will be shouting that size does matter, but in the case of newspapers and mobile phones, small is definitely more desirable.
The telegraph describes itself as ‘Britain’s biggest - selling quality daily’, while I cannot confirm or deny this claim, I do however know that if I don’t get my copy fairly early in the morning then there are no copies left and I have to settle for another broadsheet ...

Advantages: Intelligent; literate; Disadvantages: Ragingly xenophobic piece of fascist propaganda
The Daily Telegraph has always been a wonderful newspaper for those who want to keep Britain great, lock up all communists and homosexuals, and give Johnny Foreigner a good seeing-to. To say that the Telegraph is right-wing is like saying that 'Hamlet' is an 'ok' play, or that Bill Gates is 'reasonably well off.' In fact, in its political stance, it has always been 'slightly to the right of Attila the Hun' (in the words of Tim Rice). However, it ... ...refer to that section of the populace now designated as 'Daily Telegraph Readers'? Crazed-Fascist-Fox-Hunting-Xenophobes doesn't have quite the same ring to it. Where now will we left-wing commie rascals find new things to object to? There's always the Daily Mail, I know, but somehow that's like dynamiting fish in a bucket. At least the Telegraph was a worthy opponent that was able to construct a literate and well-structured justification for why, ...

...opinion about an article in the Telegraph,I should not have been SO SPECIFIC. I should have written about THE TELEGRAPH So here goes a REAL opinion on the TELEGRAPH! What do we expect from a Newspaper? What do we want from a Newspaper? Obviously the answers to these questions will be very personal. Most types of Newspapers will give us the News Headlines probably with a Left or Rightwing slant but the main difference between newspapers will be the ... ...then you must go for the comic variety, and this is what many of us want in our daily read. Some of these articles can be quite entertaining, but this is something we must remember that they are basically written to entertain the reader and NOT to inform! If on the other hand the only sleek glistening body we want to see on page 3 is an advertisement for a car then one must go for what are colloquially called the ‘quality’ papers. (This ...

Advantages: Superb journalism. Disadvantages: Cover price of 45p
The Telegraph has a bad reputation amongst non-readers. It is thought of as right wing and out of touch. This is far from the case. The newspaper has some of the best journalists to be found in the world. It is unrivalled for foriegn news and its opinion and letters pages are lively. For sport, and here I mean sport beyond football, The Telegraph is a superb way to keep up to date. Articles are well written and enjoyable to read. The Telegraph is ...

Advantages: Good Saturday read, good value Disadvantages: Mixed interest
...not a big fan of the Telegraph's traditional and right wing views, but I do tend buy it on Saturdays. There are lots of sections and the odds are that most people will find some of interest. The motoring section is fairly extensive and better than its competitors. The money and financial sections are good and comparable with the Times/Independent/Guardian. The colour section is glossy and panders to fashion with the occasional high impact feature. ...

Review of The Telegraph
Advantages: easy to read quality paper with good journalism Disadvantages: perception as a tory lapdog
I have been reading the Daily Telegraph on and off for years, sometimes being tempted away but always returning sheepishly to the fold.
The reasons I leave is that the telegraph is always thought of as extreme right wing and doesn't go down too well, the reasons I return the quality of journalism in covering both serious and frivalous stories.
The editorial style makes it easy to understand complex issues, the only problem being that you know before ...
Advantages: Quality, consistency, thouroughly contemporary (contrast the Guardian's stuck-in-the-70s approach) Disadvantages: Still has an image problem
The image of the Telegraph, certainly amongst young people (I'm 20) isn't all that great, and I continually get asked "why are you reading that?" by my Guardian-reading friends.
Having read the DT for a couple of years now I genuinely believe it to be the most forward-looking, exciting, and youthful (no, Telegraph and youthful are not contradictory!) paper in Britain.
Why? The journalism is first class; less condescending and patronising than the ... ...the Times.
The Telegraph is renowned for its excellent coverage of foreign affairs coverage, but a glance at any issue illustrates its breadth of interesting news and issues: sport and politics deserve honourable mentions.
If you're sick of the Guardian's front page campaigning which they like to describe as news (the fact that the other papers rarely pick up on any of the Guardian's leads is very revealing), then give the Telegraph a go! You might ...

Such a stereotype is no longer valid, assuming it ever was.
The Telegraph today is a superbly produced daily with an attractive layout, high standards of journalism and is a really good read.
OK many of its writers have strongly held views which you may vehemently diasgree with but they ... ...and its editorial space given over to international affairs is , I feel, just about adequate.

Advantages: Excellent journalists and layout of articles Disadvantages: Sports need improving, adverts too domineering
I have been reading The Telegraph for many years, I have been brought up on it, I'm now sick of it. Ok the writing is superb, the layout is very user friendly and the typography is clear and readable, but where is the inspiration in the paper, where is the freshness?, some of the reporters are from a different world and I suspect hardly represent the vast majority of their readers. There is not enough history in the paper about the actual news report, ... ...I want background on the report, make the type face smaller then to fit it all in or cut some adverts out, on alternative days.
I read the Times and the Guardian recently and was impressed I do not understand why the Times is so far behind in sales, I suppose its due to a lack of a decent marketing campaign. The Guardian is still stigmatized with the anti everything capitalist and their old pro socialist Labour stance.
The Telegraph I feel has ...

...– Torygraph, for many years the two names have been interchangeable for the British population, and to a great extent nothing much changes.
There is nothing particularly wrong with the Telegraph; it’s just that there is so much better. The Times does the news better, the Guardian does the supplements better, and the Independent does its comment better. The layout can seem at times depressing, and whilst no one expects a broadsheet to be ‘lightweight’, ... ...if ever, does the Telegraph contain a banner, headline or ‘Inside today’s Telegraph…’ that makes me want to part with 45 p and actually buy it. Advantages: Excellent (written and photo) journalism, always reliable Disadvantages: You might disagree with the politics, but surely that's the point?
In my opinion, the Daily Telegraph is just about the best daily paper on the market in the UK at the moment. The sports coverage in particular is unrivalled, especially on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Advantages: Makes the Tories look rational Disadvantages: Predictable right-wing bilge
Whilst it is certainly true the Telegraph is not quite as right wing as Hague (is that even possible, he seems to have dropped off the edge anyway) its affections remain unchanged.
The Telegraph hides its thinly disguised devotion for the Conservative party and everything right wing very badly. If you want to read all the stuff that you would expect to go along with that, then this is the paper for you.
The couple of times I have seen it recently ... ...like communism, in conservatism the old ideas run deep – hang ‘em and throw away the key, return to ‘proper’ discipline, what is lovingly called ‘family values’ and the wonderful still target of ‘political correctness’ remain central to the papers philosophy.
