...on Amazon or something as the cover says that it costs £12.99, but I know for a fact I would never have spent that much on a book, however good it is! Based on the fact that I read the book in under twenty four hours you've probably guessed already that this book isn't a weighty intellectual masterpiece, but I think this novel is exceptional in its genre. The Thirteenth Tale is Diane Setterfield's first novel, but she has written numerous factual ... ...novel would probably fall into the mystery category. Hopefully without spoiling the ending for anyone who hasn't read the book, the basic plot is as follows. ...and bought it from reading the synopsis on the back cover.
Here is my review.........
I cannot tell you too much about the storyline because the plot for this novel starts right at the beginning, and I would spoil it for anybody who would like to read it, which I highly recommend.
This story is based around world renown writer Vida Winter, people have tried and failed to find out the real person, but nobody knows who she is, where she comes from ... ...to reveal her secret past, the real one.
Enter Margaret Lea, the daughter of a bookshop owner, who lives, breathes and eats books, any books. She even professes to have learnt to read and write in the book shop and ended up working there from leaving school. It was the essay about the Landier brothers (will mean nothing to you but will if you read the book) written by Margaret that drew Vida's attention to her.
Vida summons Margaret to her home ...

Advantages: A real page turner, one to grip the heart of the reader! Disadvantages: At times the twist may be a tad confusing, you must stick with it!
...a book to read on the plane I had a quick scan of mums book case and came upon this rare treat. The Thirteenth Tale is an amazing novel and has to be Diane Setterfield's masterpiece. This novel has it's reader traveling through an intricatly woven and twisted plot . It is unlike anything I have ever read. Setterfield tells the tale of a young writer, who is called to write a biography for a famous novelist Vida Winter. No-one knows who this mysterious ... ...the heart of her intriguing story of Angelfield.
This novel is literaly superb, it is one to challenge the classics. A modern day Jane Eyre. It's the sort of novel that novelists don't brave to write anymore, but in my opinion these are the ones that are deeply rewarding both for the author and the reader.
I would recommened this book if you are looking for a challenging novel, something that'll stay with you for a long time... ...
