3 Stars Not The BEST 23/02/2001
    User doesn't recommend the product

    Advantages Advantages Not many

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Boring Dj's

The good bit about the Top 40 on radio one is that of course it's just based on sales so you get a more accurate picture of what songs are doing in the shops. Obviously there isn't so much advertising either so you get a fairly uninterrupted broadcast. BUT the quality of the DJ's just do not compare to the one's on the Pepsi Chart, broadcast for commercial radio. Mayvbe it's because of my age but Doctor Fox is one of the best D'J's around. He is informative, entertaining, and friendly, he also has cpulling power. All the celebs ring up to his shows but you just don't get that on Radio One ... more

Advantages Advantages There might be songs that you really like in the chart

Disadvantages Disadvantages There might be songs you don't like!

Every week the total number of singles sales has to be added up and then put into this brilliantly presented show by Mark Goodyear. He counts down the Top 40 singles, starting from 40 down to 1, for those of who don't know. Usually he gets straight to the point and plays each song one after another, because the show is 3 hrs long. The chart has a variaty of songs of all types but the most common type of music is pop. For other types of music such as metal and r'n'b there is a top 10 countdown. I think the Top 40 is good to listen to every now and again, but there can be some really poor songs ... more

    3 Stars 3 hours long 24/03/2001

Advantages Advantages runs through them regularly

    Disadvantages Disadvantages 3 hours long

The UK Top 40 is on Sundays on Radio 1 (97 - 99 fm) from 4 pm to 7 pm so thats works out to be 3 hours long. I listen to it when I have the time but I don't usually have 3 hours to sit down and listen to the radio. The UK Top 40 is based on UK sales but not every single shop in Britain. There are about 6 shops that they take the numbers from. There's a couple in London, 1 in Glasgow I'm not sure where the rest are. So if you don't shop in those particular shops then your record won't count towards the charts. Every 10 songs, they recall those ten so you don't forget where each song is. Then ... more

Advantages Advantages Free and easy to use

Disadvantages Disadvantages Confused or am I

THE CHART SHOW: RADIO 1: FM 97.6 - 99.8 MHz from 16.00 - 19.00 hrs. The UK Top 40 is called the chart show by the Times on Saturday. I might be out of my depth here but I found the show a little confusing and 3 hours is a long time to be confused. For the first 2 1/2 hours you are taken through pieces by various artists in the top 40. This is my 1st listen to the show my perception might improve with experience. I’m not too sure the tunes were played in a sequential manner and I think I heard album tracks as well as singles. It was sometime before a whole tune was played which is a pity ... more

Advantages Advantages Good show, well put together.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages 3 hours long

I regularly listen to radio 1 on a sunday night from 4pm to catch the new top 40. It lasts for 3 hours so it's a long programme to listen to but it's good as it plays each song from number 40 to number 1 with a re-count every 10 songs so if you do miss a part of the show then you can listen to that and know who's where in the chart. The presenter is good and is friendly. Radio 1 also makes the show better by putting in competitions so that keeps you listening as well. I think it's a good way to spend a sunday night, listening to the chart with the top songs! ... more

I am a die hard listener of this radio show as I reckon a lot of other people out there are. I really like to listen to where my fave new single has entered the charts (hopefully at number 1) but I do get a bit annoyed and start shouting at the DJ when it is beaten to the top spot by a song that I completely hate. This radio show is fast and is the first radio station to unveil the latest number 1. It has some competitions on it and also the show also hass celebrity guests on the phone, which is great. I really like listening to this show every Sunday, I am a religious fan of it. I would ... more

    4 Stars top 40 charts 22/02/2001

    Advantages Advantages good music

    Disadvantages Disadvantages too long

I think that the top 40 chart if quite good because it is a great way to find what songs and what songs are out. But I do think that it is on at a bit of a stupid time because between 4 and 7 is a bit of a stupid time I think it should be on earlier so that people who wanted to listen to it but go out at night can't really listen also there is a bit too many advertisements on it and breaks because there are 40 songs in it and it lasts three hours so there must be a lot of breaks because on average a song lasts 2 minutes and 40 times 2 is 80 minutes and that is only 1 hour 20 minutes. ... more
